They also sell chocolates and gifts, adding to the "fun little shop" feel as soon as you walk in. I went specifically for ice cream because I was looking for a nearby ice cream shop, and this one caught my eye. It wasn't too crowded when I visited, and the staff was relaxed, friendly, and helpful while getting my scoop ready. I ordered a cookies-and-cream-style flavor with a blue base and cookie crumbles, and it was exactly what I needed on a hot Friday afternoon during a Massachusetts heat wave. I got the smallest (pixie, 4oz) size, and it was plenty for me. Overall, it's a very cute, kitschy little shop that's easy to pop into if you're in town. I wish I'd had more time to explore the gifts and chocolates, but even just stopping in for ice cream was a fun treat. read more

Whimsical little spot--Whimsy's is a charming Salem boutique and dessert shop with very witchy vibes. This Salem gift shop is packed with Christmas decorations, holiday ornaments, candles, and witchy goodies, + chocolate and ice cream. I picked up a heart ornament with painted gold accents. The staff was incredibly friendly, and we chatted for a while--he even shared a recipe for German mulled wine. Whimsy's is great for unique gifts, seasonal decor and sweets. We didn't get any treats here but must leave a five star review for the amazing customer service we were given the other night. As we were walking around, trying to find a place for dinner it became clear that my husband (who is a type one diabetic) started to have a low blood sugar. We ran into Whimsy's to grab some candy for him, but it was pretty clear his blood sugar was dropping fast. In speaking with one of the sales girls, she immediately knew what to do and grabbed him a soda. While I paid, I thanked her and she mentioned that she has several family members who are diabetic. Her knowledge and quick thinking turned what could've been a scary moment into only a blip in the day. The soda did its trick and we were on to find dinner and enjoy our night. Thank you!! This store is basically a candy store that has a variety of various treats including chocolates & ice cream. Unfortunately their chocolates are simply AWFUL! I can't believe how packed w/ sugar they were, it was grossly excessive. It was like hard to even tell the truffles had chocolate. I also bought some turtles which were a decent size which made the chocolate so thick you could barely bite into it, I was afraid to chip a tooth! The amount of money they are charging is a total rip off, so don't bother, not worth it. I contacted them to let them know my experience & they basically didn't bother responding after saying "oh well, too bad you didn't like them, but we don't make them, not our problem". Location is the only thing this place has going for it, watery hot chocolate and near impossible to eat Chocolate Turtle makes this place just a tourist trap praying on the volume of tourist. The chocolate turtle was so hard I had to break it up by hand into small pieces to eat it. While this place is close to where many tours start and a nice hot chocolate on a cold night would be great, this isn't the place to find a good hot chocolate. read more

Going to Salem during Halloween weekend was definitely a bold move and required additional patience. However, Whimsy's team and staff did a pretty great job at keeping the line moving. They offered many sweet treated in addition to ice cream. I ordered a pixie totally turtle ice cream and thought that it was pretty good. The flavor was yummy. However, the ice cream was a little too hard for my preference. I had to wait a little/try to mix it to soften it up. The ambiance was cute - the lower section looked to be a store with fun nick nacks to buy while the upper section was dedicated to treats. read more

Well curated and adorable, we *loved* that the owners took their time to select only vendors that were local and supported causes that uplift women and those in the LGBTQ+ Community. Whatever you do - take time to meet Alena, and ask her story. Then ask about the things she carries in the shop -each one has a story. Then we had some ice cream, and y'all. Just have some ice cream. The texture was so creamy and soft and the flavor was big, and fresh. Super thankful for the generous portion sizes - which gave the price point a wonderful value. Snagged some of the most beautiful chocolates I've ever seen on the way out - again, rich in value when you consider the size of an average truffle for similar pricing. I'm not in Salem often, but the next time I go there, I know visiting whimsy's again will feel like seeing family. read more

Took a trip to Salem after renting a car in Boston (a cruise port stop for us). Let me start with, I LOVE chocolate.. like, REALLY love chocolate!!! The truffles we found here were absolutely phenomenal. I got 4 different kinds - dk chocolate with: pumpkin, peanut butter, Carmel and dk chocolate! In addition, the ice cream, I tried a few things but landed on the peanut butter/dk chocolate swirl. The ice cream was so creamy and the peanut butter was delish, a perfect combo! Prices were as expected for the size of the truffles, and the sizes offered for the ice cream. The store was stocked full of amazing artisan pieces. This place changed hands this year and used to be Maria's, which I always found to be sort of dated and overcrowded with touristy souvenir type gifts. Whimsy's is a complete upgrade in terms of aesthetic - it has fine jewelry, home decor items like artisan candles, and accessories, all with an elegant witchy/fairy vibe. This place is so gross. The ice cream scoopers USE THEIR BARE FINGERS to pack down the ice cream. The girl doing it did it to my ice cream and the one before and after. Why would you touch the ice cream with your HANDS when you have a scoop to pack it down with?! In the age of COVID?! Absolutely insane. I have never seen anyone else do this. After I scraped off the part she touched, I tried the ice cream (seasonal apple crisp) and it was so nasty that I spit it out and threw it away. This was hands down my favorite store that I visited in Salem. The shop half was Wicca centered with garden and plant/growing based items as well as beautiful decorative items for the home. Everything was beautiful and such incredible quality. Even better, the store is LGBTQ+ friendly and very welcoming. The other side of the store has ice cream and locally made chocolates. I live in Salem and used to frequent Maria's when it was in this location. Loved it and her. This place is such a disappointment. The front half of the shop is very touristy gifts. I have no problem with that. If there is a market for that, wonderful. My issue is the back half where Maria used to sell ice cream and freshly baked goods. She used the front for delicious chocolates. Whimsy's chocolates were so overpriced I was astonished. One chocolate covered oreo with m&ms was $5.00. This was a regular sized store bought oreo and regular m&ms. It was ok, nothing that was worth that kind of money. It is with great disappointment that I write this. Maria's Sweet Shop will be sorely missed. I will never be back and will be warning friends of the poor value. read more

They have delicious high quality chocolates and ice cream (the raspberry ice cream with chocolate bits, can't remember the name, but it's heaven!) on one level, and downstairs is a wonderful store where interns made by small businesses are showcased.
