Without toddler in tow, we ended into this wonderland workshop, where my wife found herself immersed in browsing all of the handcrafted quality toys, games and oddities scattered throughout, while I entertained our little one in the play area up front. Being parents who would prefer to eschew the blinking lights and annoying audio recordings of today's modern toys, as well as avoiding screen time as much as possible, the variety of puzzling, intriguing, sensory-engaging items on sale here is exactly the sort of analog entertainment we are looking for! I sense a significant section of our upcoming Christmas lists will be sated here at SpielWerk, likely for many years to come!

Storied Objects is a small space. The owner's interest is contemporary work in minimal colors. For instance the show I saw of vessels, vases, bowls, and cups was natural wood finish, black, white, and clear, in wood, ceramics and glass. They have rotating selections of kitchen, table, household, objects, bath, wellness, textiles, furniture, lighting, books, stationary, scents and kintsugi. They are online and ship too, The interior was clean, light, and with natural wood finish shelves. The owner was a pleasure to talk to and their openings draw a small loyal crowd. They would be a good spot for gifts of decorative and household objects for collectors and those interested in clean line elegant design.

This week, my Monday got moved to Wednesday dash and I decided to take full advantage of the opportunity. The space is inviting. It is that near-industrial urban chic of which Portland seems to be so fond. Lots of clean surfaces, lots of Spartan seating. A lot of empty space per human being. The menu does not disappoint. There are a variety of crêpes, both savory and sweet, sandwiches, other baked goods, and a vast plethora of drinks. Service was of the "order at the counter, have it delivered to your seat" variety. The woman at the counter was friendly and helpful, and very nice when delivering my meal. I opted for the continental crêpe, and a glass of sweet tea. Being from the south, "sweet tea" has specific connotations. This was not that! However, it was delicious. It was a lighter green tea, sweetened slightly with something that I believe was probably honey. Served iced in a pint glass with a straw. The crêpe itself was folding in quarters layered with cheese and turkey and spinach and pesto and was delicious. All in all, it was a great place to pop in and have a quick bite waiting on my meeting. I'll definitely be returning. Except on Mondays.

They have a gallery of rotating student work. You can see if it's for your child. There is a lot of childhood imagination at work! They are a gift shop for witchy, magic, and occult inspired items. So if you need a gift in that vein, for another, or yourself, stop in. Or if you are a crafter making that, inquire. They have well attended first Friday art shows with a month theme. There is a grown up art theme and a children's art theme. Grown up themes have included the Pink Show, Seven Deadly Sins, Flora and Fauna, Cryptids, Wicked, Tarot, Sacred Sites, Midnight Magic, and Haunted. Their first Friday events are later, 7-9PM. Good friends were residential pioneers in this neighborhood between Powell and the tracks, so I know it well. It is by Bullseye, artist studios, art supply stores, wholesalers, and more. It's an industrial oasis. Splendorporium fits well into the Keep Portland Weird theme of creative.

Lonesomeville is a great place to visit and I'm quite surprised that there aren't any reviews here…read morealready. Lonesomeville creates beautiful, high quality art pottery while taking care of their wonderful old farm house and spacious garden. They host two open houses each year, one in the Spring and one around Halloween. Sadly I've never been to one of these, but I hear they are spectacular. I have visited by appointment which works very well as you get a better chance to talk to Wayne and Danny. The spring is the best time to visit as the garden is in full swing and everything is bright. The farm house acts as a restoration project/home/showroom and is an evolving work of art as new projects are taken on each year. Little woodworking details are everywhere and you can get lost in them. It's very clear that the owners love their home and love creating wonderful things. They also love coffee so if you manage to get invited for a cup of coffee do yourself a favor and accept, you won't be disappointed. During their open houses, Lonesomeville hosts a sale in which they sell their cosmetic seconds (and thirds and fourths) to the public. Last year the October sale wiped them out of their inventory so if you want the best selection of seconds, call ahead for an appointment just before the sale. It's a little sneaky, but it will get the job done. You'll also get to see all of the different styles in each of the glazes offered. On my last visit, I got to see part of the mold making process for an upcoming piece in the acorn series. I have to say, that was pretty cool. So, if you like art pottery please check out their website and call for an appointment if you live near Portland, Oregon.
