Brush prices!
Karl A.

I love this Blick! From the easy parking right out front, to the super helpful team, it's a great store. I have to plan extra time coming here because they have a great inventory and a lot to shop through. I came down for a couple brushes and ended up stocking up on a bunch of supplies. The deals are great and the team was really good about helping me find some odds and ends! Thank you!!!

Great supplies for the artist. Located in the heart of the pearl district there's ample street parking and there is a streetcar stop right around the corner. This place is huge and has pretty much anything I've ever needed. Pens, pencils, brushes, paper. I also bought a desk and some canvases as well. Staff is super friendly and helpful. I'm not sure how the prices fare - always felt a tad expensive but you're paying for convenience and quality. They offer student discounts too!

Bamboozled in the framing department - Frustrating, disappointing, expensive, dishonest and unfair I brought in a large poster for framing, wanting a modern, flat frame for it with museum glass. This was my first (and last) experience with Blick. The employee (who no longer works there) who "designed" the "project" insisted that only certain molded frame styles would work, which he indicated to me to choose from. I didn't like any of them, but selected one. In addition, I replaced the glass in another large poster and an artwork which were already framed (3 "projects") for a total of over $550 at "half price." The framed poster looks ridiculous - like a window with a poster in it. I asked if I could get the frame swapped out, since I had gone with the employee's regrettable recommendation. No such luck. I'll be taking the poster to another frame shop. Wish I had walked out instead of doing business with Blick Art Materials. ""

Amazing selections of fun and serious Art supplies. We visited Blick Art Materials on a Saturday. There were several staff members roaming the store who were very helpful in directing us to the supplies we were looking for. Wide aisles. Displays were well organized. Overall a great shopping experience. Service was fast, friendly and efficient.

Blick on Glisan

Although shown as Utrecht Art supplies on the Yelp page, this store is now Blick Art Materials...see exterior store photo...as Blick acquired Utrecht in April. Based on my first visit yesterday, Blick seems like a fabulous resource of supplies for artists at all levels from scaredtobe (like me) to wannabe to newbie to serious student to accomplished professional and across mediums. Lots of windows on Glisan side, brightly lit, well stocked, friendly staff, cool floors (seriously,...look down...reclaimed from a high school gym), great music (lovely classical yesterday but the staff says they get to choose something new each day), plus lots of friendly and helpful staff to direct we who are completely intimidated in an art supply store to find our way. My intimidation at the idea of art creation was started by my third grade teacher in a NE Portland public school classroom who held up my attempt to create a lamb picture out of cotton balls and craft paper to the rest of the class and said the following: "I hope all of you are doing a better job than this." No. I did not make that up. Perhaps it is because I am so artistically challenged myself that I so love art of all kinds as created by others. (I also still love crayons and to color, in and outside the lines, but that's my little secret so please don't tell.) Maybe it is why I was so grateful to the welcoming and unpretentious staff here for not making me feel like a failure when I asked questions about a couple of things in the store that I was going to buy for an artistic friend. I can't imagine an art supply they don't have at Blick. I was mesmerized by the beautiful art papers, hand made lovely things, that were art in themselves. And if you're trying to find something unique as a gift for little children, you might find it here, as we did, in things like budding artists sets of paints and chalk and craft papers and stickers. It might help move them away from watching images on a screen created by others and into their imaginations to allow them to express themselves in art. Then maybe the greatest gift of all is no matter what it is they hold up to show you is to say something like the following, "That is such a interesting piece you've created! I can't wait to see what you'll show me next." THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: Although this part of the Pearl District is as parking scarce as all others, it is not as hard to find a spot on street as you might expect it to be during business hours. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Level in to door and ramp right alongside interior stairs leads to fully level store inside with lots of room in aisles. 3) FRAME STOCK: Looks like a great assortment of picture framing stock; one of my favorite things to peruse.

Several items framed at the Pearl shop over the past decade; the interaction and execution are consistently 1st rate. Highly recommended.

About 10 feet of a delicate heirloom and a few other pieces we were just wanting to get out of Target frames. This was an expensive purchase, around $1200, and they spent every moment with us discussing color theory in matting and glass options, as well as advice on how to hang and treat the art after. All in all, their pricing is absolutely in line with the rest of Portland, we called 4 other places and received the same quotes, but the customer service, craftsmanship, and knowledge of the staff is impeccable. Thank you all so much. Very satisfied customers.

The final frame job is beautiful. Good eye - was the first sample he pulled out that I went with. Framing in general is expensive these days so this was reasonably priced. The frame materials, matting, glass if needed, the labor... I highly recommend them for your next project. (I visited the Southeast store BTW).

This is my first time visiting this store. Wow, so many items for your hobbies. You have yarn,…read moresewing, pictures, and anything you may want to explore for what you can need. They are having a sale on Squishy items at the front tables. Many things were discounted. There is a lot of stuff in this store. Coloring books, paintings, stickers and many more. They have a great selection of yarn and fabric here. And there were staff to help you find something if you need. So many pictures frames in their area. Any size frames you need or want to hang, this will be one of the stores to check out. There is a whole wall in the corner with different wood frames that can accompany any pictures or artwork you want. I really enjoy the 3D wooden puzzles that you can built. I especially enjoy the musical instruments they have playing in the display. Quite intriguing.

Solid fabric selection though I couldn't find any sleepwear safe options (I didn't ask). The woman at the fabric counter was amazing and patient in cutting my 10 or so different picks. The sewing pattern selections are severely lacking (and tucked away), but between the thrift store surplus and online printable options I can't imaging they sell many at the MSRP.

Because this store has a "look us up on Yelp sticker" on their front door, I will assume they take…read moretheir reviews somewhat seriously. My comprehensive review is as follows: About 9 years ago I had an autographed drumhead, COA, and photo needing to be framed. We had it done here. The frame turned out to be much more than I paid for the original autograph, but I was still initially impressed by the quality of the frame when it was done. A few weeks later there was an adhesive issue to one of the pieces, and we took it back and Beards took care of it for free. Cool. A few weeks later; same issue, they took it back and re-did for free. Then the same issue happened a few weeks after that for the 3rd time. I didn't touch it for years because it didn't really bug me. I took it back in a few weeks ago when I moved back from college to get it fixed again. The woman at the counter wanted to charge me $20 for the fix but I had remembered that Beards never charged me in the past to fix the same thing. I told her that and she made a receipt for me for $0.00. Ok cool, they honor their work. While I was reading the receipt, the woman wanted me to hurry up and sign it and she said something like "it just means you agree we are taking it." Hey, I read things before I sign them. By the way, it says in the receipt that if I don't pick the frame up in 60 days after its done, they will either keep it or toss it. So I come back about a week later and nothing has been done to the piece after they called me and told me it was done. They literally wrapped it up in paper and marked it finished when no one even touched it. Uh what? I explained to the much nicer guy at the store that the piece could be removed or fixed, whatever was easier for them to do. I returned to the store on April 5, 2016 to find out that the piece was kind of fixed but not really. There must have been a total miscommunication on what should have been done. I finally drew up a diagram of what should be done and hopefully they understand it now. I will be the first one to admit that the piece is a really hard display but I was hoping they understood what I meant and didn't have to make two extra trips to the store. I should find out in a few days here. I've got another autograph I want to be framed but I want it done right. I want to give them one more shot at it because I don't mind helping out the local brick and mortar stores but if they can't do this much easier frame for a decent price then Im going to have to go somewhere else. Update: My frame was finally fixed and the store gave me a $100 credit towards my next frame. I just got the next one done a week later and it looks amazing. They redeemed themselves. I will be back, thanks
