This was such a lovely store to stop into while walking up and down Alberta. My partner and I happened to stop in on a weekend where they were holding a major sale, so there was a ton of stuff on clearance as an added bonus. The store itself is cute and cozy. I would warn folks that it is very tight navigating in places-- I am petite and still felt a little claustrophobic. A lot of that is likely the crowds on sale day, but isles are narrow and there are a few places where you can get "trapped" if other customers don't see you standing behind. I absolutely love stationary, and this place scratched my letter-writing itch. I ended up picking out a couple of sets of cards + envelopes to add to my collection. These are BEAUTIFUL and well made. Prices were reasonable, and the clearance items were an absolute steal. The staff were super friendly and attentive and they seemed to be doing a good job keeping everything in order even though there were a lot of people here. read more

I was inspired to visit the store because of their wall of washi tape. It was an impressive amount of washi. They have a ton of art products for all kinds of mediums. They had a great selection of big stickers, and I love that they clearly listed who the artist was. That way you can look up the artist and follow them or support their work. Recently in Portland to visit my daughter, she took me to Alberta Street, to explore all the awesome shops on that strip. She knew this one would be a big draw for me, as I love art and dabble in various crafts. If you have any artistic or crafty hobby, you'd be hard-pressed not to find supplies - and inspiration - here in this store. It seems to have everything! Some of the artsy supplies I saw here include: journals and pens and pencils of EVERY sort, rubber stamps, miniatures for models, origami supplies, painting and drawing supplies, all sorts of craft kits, TONS of kid's craft kits and toys, awesome greeting cards for any occasion (some wonderfully twisted, which I love), sewing/needlepoint/crochet stuff, scrapbook supplies, and more. 10-26-21 undoubtedly a smorgasbord of artistic delights! The creature outside of Collage was enough to catch my attention so after lunch we went inside. Glad there was a parking spot right in front. If you are a card maker, rubber stamper, scrapbook kinda person or love very cool wrapping paper, nice journaling pens or art supplies look no more: this shop will inspire your artistic fancy. What chic is to raggamuffin is like what Collage is to BF even though it's my go to store in Hawaii. Gosh Carina aka Seiji offered the most help from finding cardboard so my 12x12 paper wouldn't bend enroute on my flight home to suggesting the finest Micron pen and ringing me up my $169+ purchases. I asked her if she had an art degree and she said all of them working in this store are artists. Collage is on Alexander Street which is in the art district of Portland. The flamboyant color of the leaves on the trees, homes with pumpkins on their porches, muralled shop walls, wish I had half a day or more to explore. I love this little shop! A friend recommended I go here and it is fantastic. The vibes here are immaculate and it really feels like it's its own world and not on a busy street in Portland. The people working here are so nice and chill and they know everything about everything. They have so many options and it's easy to spend an hour just wandering around. This place is dangerous with how many adorable crafting supplies they have. I could find everything I was looking for and then some. It is a bit pricey but they support a lot of local artists and they're a small business so you know your money is going to the people who actually need it and not a big box store. Collage is a Portland institution revered and enjoyed for many years. They are a welcoming store. The staff is knowledgeable and will help in ways that are up above and beyond the norm. For example, some years ago I needed paper cut for project I was working on, and because the staff was not busy they helped me it made such a difference in my confidence to move forward with the project. My daughter had a birthday party at the old collage which involved making tiny dioramas in mint tins. It was brilliant. I could not give this place a higher recommendation. At times I wished they stocked more Jewish related themes, like stickers and stamps. But eventually, I've always been able to find what I needed. I was so excited to come here and find SMALL tubes of Daniel Smith watercolors which I often have to buy from Blick...which is fine but I'd rather not order online often times. Many stores only carry the big 15ml tubes, like the AC on Lombard. They also carry other neat specific items like the masking fluid marker, special erasers etc. The first time I came by in Dec ish of 2023 the vibe was very weird but this time it was really chill and fun. I love this craft store. It might not be as big as Michaels, but they pack a lot in here, and I find that they usually carry things Michaels doesn't have that I am looking for. The quality here is top notch. So while you might be paying more for something than at a big box store, it's because the materials here are better quality. For example, acrylic felt sheets at Michaels are $0.99 Here they are $3.99, but they are real wool. If you want the cheap fake stuff you won't find it here. I love that they have a lot of bulk bin materials. It's perfect for someone like me who likes making wreaths and terrariums and needs small plastic animals or ceramic mushrooms and such. Also in the bulk bins: game tokens, scrabble pieces, pogs, trading cards, block print letters, stamps, and much much more. I also love the wall of washi tape. I am trying to think of what they DONT have. 9 times out of 10 I can get everything I need here. It's a great place to wander around and let inspiration strike. read more

This store has a little bit of everything. About of a fourth of it is geared toward young kids, with things like stickers, little toys, plastic beads, and little kits. The rest of it is a little bit of a ton of different crafts. There's a scrapbooking section, a dyeing section, painting, fiber arts with embroidery hoops, thread, cross stitch fabric, needles, lots of different kinds of notebooks and sketchbooks, canvases, pens, and on and on and on. This store often has exactly what I'm looking for. If you're looking for lots of options, brands, every option for a specific kind of craft, they might not have everything you need, but it's a great one-stop shop for a lot of things. read more

This is one of my favorite places for craft ideas and good finds. Last visit after Halloween I found a pile of clearance goodies from a packet of great papers, a craft project kit and even a super fun Dias de los Muertos pendant which a friend turned into an amazing necklace for me. Just their decor and setups throughout the store inspire you crafty creative brain into action. I have gone in there just to get an idea and wandered out with three separate projects in mind so I guess the store is also a bit dangerous. Not sure how I haven't reviewed this place before but every time I go in here, I remember why I love NE Portland. This spot has everything a closet geek or outward writing nerd could need. There's artist supplies, journals, pens and even an eco friendly Italian made notebook option in a multiple various styles sizes and colors. The service is always friendly and welcoming, even with the changing regulations of COVID precautions. The lovely salesman directed me to a cute possum sticker to adorn my new large sketch journal (which I will be using to write letters and keep them organized through the pandemic). After rifling through, I ended up with his recommendation. I always have to repeat "you can't buy it all" every. Time. I enter. Thank you being a bright spot in our town AND having a donation round up and supporting black lives matter. I tell everyone about this place-AND you have a frequent shopper punch card. I tried Michaels first and was disappointed in the selection of cross stitch kits, I'm glad I kept going and looking at Collage as I could find some adorable kits that were much more my style (and something I'd actually hang up!). This store isn't huge, but there's a TON crowded into their average sized Alberta Street storefront (actually two storefronts). The staff was super friendly and willing to order anything I didn't find during my visit! I loved all the tchotchkes and the selection of stickers/washii tape was amazing! read more

This is a great local shop . Lots of cool items packed into a relatively small space , good prices, helpful staff.

If I could live here and spend all day tinkering with their little stamps, scrapbook papers, jars, tiles, and punch outs, I would with no hesitation. It's the neighborhood arts and crafts store jammed packed with goodies. I seriously spent over an hour in here and when you see how small it is you'll probably realize what a craft nerd I am. There's a section for everything. One is dedicated to scrapbooking. There are random trinkets, a basket full of one off tarot, playing, and post cards. There are little bottles of multiple sizes. There are vintage labels, tickets, and other fun things to tuck inside a scrapbook. These are things you'd never find at Michael's or Jo-Ann's. Another has tons of stamps. Modern and classic ones. Clear and wooden ones. Ones that are stickers that you apply to a block of your choice. Next are stencils, stickers, rub-ons, etc. Cool metallic ones. Things you can apply to walls or paper. The back section has a few types of papers. Card stock, Japanese rice, etc. There are also a ton of pre-cut cards and envelopes. Also a stencil to make your own envelopes. Also in the back are framing materials, canvas, and other mediums for art. Yet another section has cool inks, pencils, charcoals, and pens to test. In another nook there are punch-outs, decorative shears, and exacto knives. In yet another there are mosaic materials. In the center there are little glass tiles and hook sot make your own pendants and jewelry. There are even pre-printed art and photos hanging to make quick wearable pieces. Throughout the store there are examples of what you can do with the supplies in that section and people are really friendly. They aren't on top of you like in most boutiques. They let you browse and do your thing. I will definitely stop by here first for all my arts and crafts needs. read more

This is easily the best craft store I've ever visited. It's definitely better than chain options like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. The store has a nice variety of craft supplies. For scrapbooking they offer papers and embellishments. For card making they offer a large selection of stamps. For gift wrapping they have a huge selection of bags, tissue paper, and assorted boxes. They also have jewelry making supplies, fairy garden supplies, and gifts for kids. There are other assorted trinkets around the store as well. My favorite part was the section up front with odd and ends. This included Scrabble pieces, old game cards, small chalkboard signs, and all kinds of fun things to explore. The possibilities are unlimited with all of the products in this store. The location is easy to stumble upon in the Arts District. Tourists will enjoy checking this spot out if you are already in the area for Pine State Biscuits or Salt & Straw. read more

Can I have more than 5 stars? Because that is what Collage would get if I could rate it. One of my arty friends suggested Collage when she knew I was heading to the most wonderfully artistically enlightened city of Portland. It was kind of an odd trek for me, the mere tourist, to find my way to Collage from near the city center of Portland. but my iPod touch and good 'ole yelp got me there. (can't afford rip-off at&t so I just wi-fied my way there). Portland Transport has a good bus map app to help get you there. After taking the bus it was a nice little walk to the shop. You get a little taste of the neighborhood, and an even better taste of the nearby bakery if you are so inclined. Ah but on to the store. Collage satisfies the creative itch, no matter if you're jonesing for scrapbooking, altered art, jewelry making supplies. Your scratching will begin here. They have one of the most amazing selections of little bitty things for you to do other things with. I won't say more. Just go and rummage. You'll come away with lots of amazing things to tinker with, no matter your creative predilections. They have a little bit of paper, a little bit of wooden things, a little bit of pens and pencils, a little bit of ephemera, pile it all together and you have a shop full of goodies to fuel your creative juices if you are in a slump. Coming from a car dominated city, it is so neat to think this shop is neighborhood based, I could imagine coming home from work, and actually WALKING to pick up supplies. HOw cool is that? The staff person on the day I went, though did not seem all that engaging to me as a new customer. She never said hello, not until I purchased some stickles and other things. I guess she was only feeling friendly when she knew some hard earned cash was coming her way? I dunno, I just think when you are in a like-minded place, with like minded people you'd all be vibing off the same thing and talk shop to each other. Hey you'd sell more! Most amazing collection and selection of crafts, both traditional and eclectic in scope. Store is well organized and crammed full of things to be discovered. Nice waitstaff greets you and makes themselves available for questions and guidance. Pens, paper, paint. And then everything else you need to create whatever you want. Including doll eyes that open and shut when you move them, old film slides of race cars and endless sizes of glass bottles. I have been a customer of Collage for years, and I've always been happy with their service, supplies, atmosphere, and energy. The employees are always super helpful and friendly, and have given me such great advice on artwork and supplies. The store is super bright and colorful, and super prideful. Seeing a sign about respecting pronouns outside their storefront made me smile, and made me feel so seen. Their Pride display during Pride Month was a big favorite of mine, and I love their unique, interchanging displays. In terms of supplies, the store recommendations are fantastic, and they have a wide variety of supplies, and a range of art mediums. Anyone can shop here, from beginning artists to professional artists, to kids and mature adults. The only mild complaint I have is that some of the supplies are more pricey, but I personally don't mind, as they are good quality and I'm supporting a local business. I've never been unhappy shopping here, or just stopping by to say hello! I highly recommend this store to anyone in Portland, and to anyone who is looking for inspiration.
