I have been going to Wheel Works for many years. I take both my car and my truck for tires, alignment and rotation and occasionally other work. I recently went there for an oil change and asked them to rotate my tires. They told me they could not rotate my tires because my front tires were bald. They are not even at the wear mark. See photos. Total scam to try to sell me new tires. I took my truck there a couple of months ago and they told me that my lug nuts were worn and difficult to remove. So they sold me ALL new lug nuts, not just the ones that appeared to be bad. read more

This place used to be reliable for any car issues, they can always get to the bottom of it. Now, they're guessing, hit and miss. After replacing pretty much the whole drivetrain in our car, the rack and pinion, all 4 shock absorbers, all 4 rotors, all 4 tires, and other stuff, the problem was just the tire rods. My husband had a terrible experience here yesterday (4/27/26). He ordered a set of tires and had them delivered to Wheel Works, with an appointment in the morning to install them. After waiting for a while, he was told they received the wrong set of tires (front tires instead of rear tires), and that they could order the right ones and install them in the afternoon (for a higher price). However, this morning, upon trying to return the "wrong" tires, my husband found out that Wheel Works had received the correct tires afterall. We feel like this is a scam for trying to sell their tires for a higher price, knowing that we need to have them replaced in a hurry. Pro-tip: don't go in an hour or so before they close as they probably won't take you in due to the jobs they already have. I made this mistake thinking a flat tire should be one and done in 30 minutes, but nope, they wouldn't let me in. Arrived the next morning early, gave them the flat for patching, and in about 1 hour, I got a call saying it was done. They held onto my tire until I was ready to swing by. I was originally thinking they would just give it back to me, but they proceeded to move my car, take out the spare, fill all tires with proper air pressure, and then put all the spare tire parts neatly back in the trunk compartment. I really appreciate that. All in all, I think they did a good job. The tire drives just as well as before, thankfully it was fixable. They were able to squeeze me in their busy schedule within a very short time. read more

The worst Wheel Works service manager I'm extremely disappointed with the so-called "lifetime free alignment" service and the rude treatment I received from the manager at Wheel Works on this location. I had an appointment at 11AM and was told I could pick up my car by 1PM. It wasn't even busy that day compared to weekdays. By almost 2PM, I still hadn't heard anything, so I called to check on the status -- the manager just said it wasn't done yet and I might be able to pick it up before 5PM, without offering any explanation. When I stopped by the shop, I saw they hadn't even started on my car. They were working on other cars that hadn't been there when I dropped mine off that morning. I went home again and came back around 4:30PM, only to find my car still untouched and new cars are being worked on. I finally told the manager to just give me my key back. He was rude, didn't even apologize, and had no plan to call me or let me know they weren't going to work on my car that day. This is unacceptable service and makes the "lifetime alignment" promise feel like a scam. Every time I come here the manager is always rude! He is the exact opposite of Guiselle, who is always helpful no matter how busy she is. read more

The team is very professional and knowledgeable. We trust them completely with our cars. We especially appreciate Michael, the manager, who is an expert and is always honest with us about our cars and what needs to be done or what can be left alone but monitored for a while. Wheel Works, San Mateo on B street-- A Lesson in How Not to Run a Business My wife had one simple appointment: get a replacement tire. She called and she was told the tire is available right now and that they can do it by 2 PM. She waited two in the waiting room, deprived of sleep, only to check in with the person who signed in her that the tire wasn't even in stock. They were trying to get it and it may be available after 5 PM. No update, no proactive communication, nothing. She was left sitting there, sleep deprived. This isn't just bad service; it's complete disregard for a customer's time. If you schedule an appointment and confirm a part, it's reasonable to expect that the part will actually be there when you arrive. Instead, we got a wasted afternoon and a trip to a completely different location. Why in god's name did they not mention that the other San Mateo location had the tire and they didn't is absolutely beyond us. There are plenty of other tire shops in the area that respect their customers and know how to manage inventory. Do yourself a favor and skip Wheel Works San Mateo on B street unless you enjoy waiting hours for nothing. This place gets an F. read more

These guys are great. I am a repeat customer and honestly I would not go anywhere else. They always complete the work I need effectively and at minimal cost, and they communicate clearly what needs to be done. I recently went thinking I needed work on my transmission, brakes and tires. I expected to pay anywhere from 3k - 5k, but they were honest enough to let me know that the work I thought needed to be done wasn't necessary and the checks they did proved it. PLEASE! PLEASE! do not go to this location! If i could i would give a Zero on this location! I priced around for tire replacement and this location was available for our schedule. Despite the bad reviews . We needed new tires for a long drive and our tire threads were low. I should have listened to my instinct!! Got 4 new tires, the next day one tire got a flat tire. They tried to claim it was our error. Upon inspecting it, it was caused my a leaky valve. They couldn't replace it until the next day because they had to go to their warehouse to get a tire. 24 hrs later, they said a new tire was placed and ready for pick up. Went to pick up and saw that the spare tire was still on and nothing was done. I waited another hour for them to actually put the new tire on. Fast forward, 3 months later and the same tire got another flat tire. What caused it? Not sure, came upon the car parked and noticed the flat tire! Contemplating on goin back for them to fix it AGAIN. Made the decision, to go elsewhere and learn from this experience to listen to my instinct! As for the customer service ! They were very abrupt, aggressive, and manipulative. They did not provide any accountability nor responsibilities on their work. The quality is low grade and there is zero to low value of their work overall! I would not recommend for their work or customer service! Please don't be fooled. These guys installed 4 new tires I had bought online for my Cayenne. Another Wheel Works in Belmont had failed, saying it was too tough due to the reverse mount and wide custom wheels. 22" rims, about 10" deep. Michael Gonzalez at WW San Mateo B Street also found it to be pretty difficult since even their (supposed to be fully capable) equipment was not quite getting it done, but he eventually installed them all, following some admirable dedication to getting it done. Perfect results. I also really appreciated that he treated me like a knowledgeable adult, which is not always the case when dealing with automotive shops. I have been a customer of Wheel Works from the days of Daytona Tire in Belmont that preceded it. I see names of former employees of the San Mateo shop like Victor and Jeff, and I agree were great representatives and treated me well. I feel the same about current employees Guiselle, Carmen and manager Michael. I see the word rude in reviews and I don't know that experience in the 40 years I've been a customer. Maybe because Michael and Carmen are low-key, but knowledgeable and Guiselle is up-beat, all about what she can do to help and knows her stuff, so maybe there is a contrast to understand. Whether or not I went with Wheel Works for tires or service, which I don't always, I make a point to talk with Michael first because he gives me an honest answer and will tell me if I should go somewhere else. If he loses the debate about a tire he is offering, he will order what I want. He also gives recommendations for shops where Wheel Works is not located. Lifetime alignment and 6 months interest free financing is the only way to go! read more

I took my car here after experiencing unusual vibration in my front wheel at highway speeds. It was ready by 5:30 since I brought it in mid afternoon and they had a few cars in the ports ahead of me. I just requested alignment to make sure it wasnt just a simple fix rather than looking towards more expensive suspension options. Cost 72 to check align all 4 tires. Rotation was free since theyre already removing the tires. Michael explained that my wheel was bent and could be repaired for $190 which is about the same price as a new alloy wheel for my car. His inspection made sense considering the number if potholes I see driving on 101 and san francisco. As I visually inspected the tire in question I did notice the typical curb rash scratches on the edges which were there before I brought it in but the vibration is still present despite rotation towards the back. He offered to order the new tire. Overall I had a more pleasant experience here compared to previous work done on my other cars with big o tires. Thanks Michael. read more

GO ELSEWHERE! They royally messed up the simple job of an oil change: Almost 2 weeks after they changed my oil, I noticed a small puddle coming from underneath my car. The oil was all but gone, and only the tip of the dipstick had any on it. I setup an appointment the next day, I had the car towed to their shop, and I asked them to double-check their previous work. Over the phon, the Latin woman at the front desk tried to make it sound as if the issue was unrelated to the previous job, and she falsely claimed only half the oil was gone! It turned out that the first time around, they used a faulty filter that didn't sit well, and it caused the leakage. Then, the woman at the front desk handed me the key and said, "Here you go!" No apologies for almost ruining my engine, or for a messing up a simple job, or for ruining my weekend plans and wasting my time, or for the expenses I incurred towing my car and Ubering to the shop! She reeked of smugness, and she acted as if THEY were doing ME a favor by fixing their f up! I've had my share of unscrupulous and shady mechanics, but this experience takes the cake. I wouldn't drive my car near their shop again, let alone give them another opportunity to royally mess it up! I'm exploring all options to ensure no one else goes through what I went through. In the meantime, STAY AWAY! Don't be lured by their promotions; Evidently they use inferior components and half-ass it to make the economics work! Ya'll have been warned! read more
