Walked to Wheel and Sprocket to get my old bike serviced at the Service Center. After they assessed that the repairs weren't worth the cost, I decided to let them donate it and I was immediately in the market for a new one. They have a variety of bikes and they allow you to test ride them if you leave your ID. The sales associate was very knowledgeable but was very clear that it was all about preference. I decided to go with the Verve - a comfort hybrid bike. They spent a few minutes prepping my new bike and answered all of my questions. This was my first time here but it's clearly a popular bike spot because folks were coming in and out all day with their bikes. read more

Fun selection. Went in last night with my husband to browse, we weren't planning on buying. We provided our budget and needs for 2 bikes and we ended up buying 2 new Felt bikes under the budget. Paul was so helpful and full of knowledge. One bike was ready to take the same day. He made sure the bike was in perfect condition. The other one is ready next week. Awesome sale going on for the month. Also have a good selection of used bikes- very cool Italian bike for sale. They have a program to donate bikes, which we plan to do with our two old ones. I've been patronizing this shop for maybe 15+ years and wouldn't go anywhere else. Great sales help (especially Paul), well managed and efficient service. In fact even though I now live in New Mexico I still take advantage of their advice and parts and even tried to have them ship a new bike, but it's not allowed by Trek. This place holds a real special place in my heart. We have been going to wheel and sprocket for what feels like forever. Every bike I have gotten has been from there. From my first bike that I balled when I had to get another to my new trail bike they have it all. I mean there is also drinks, at a bike store! What else could you want? The staff is SO nice and knows their stuff. Whenever I walk in even to just grab a bell or something I get greeted by some of the kindest employees. We are new to town and couldn't have asked for a better experience. We were drawn to living in Milwaukee for the great outdoor experience and wonderful biking opportunities. Our oldest child was in need of a new bike and our youngest for her first. Wheel & Sprocket was outstanding. John? was super helpful in assisting my son with finding the right size and options he needed/wanted. He also didn't try to unnecessarily upsell us on anything. In fact, he even told us about an impending sale and put the bike my son wanted on layaway for us to complete the purchase when the sale was on. During the wait, they got the bike tuned and ready with added accessories, so we could come in and walk out with a ready bike. They earned our business for life. In fact, we purchased my daughter's first bike (a Trek--not exactly what I had imagined for a 5 year old), but it is something she will enjoy a ton this coming spring and summer. We did purchase the 3 year extended warranty plan for my son and will update this review based on our experience at the year one tune up. I'll also be taking my road bike in for a tune up soon. The place where you are always treated with true care and thoughtfulness. Our family has turned to Wheel & Sprocket for all of our biking needs. We have gotten on a first-name basis with most everyone at our regular store. Folks that work at Wheel seem to truly enjoy their jobs and are driven by their desire to help people get into the right bike at the right time. The service department is second to none and takes care of all of our repairs, never trying to convince us to do something that we don't need. We are into both road and mountain biking and feel so good knowing that if our local Wheel doesn't have what we need, that one of the other branches does. I was a former employee while a student at UWM. It's been many years since I've shopped at a bike shop. I've been very happy with my purchase in 1990. It was my first Trek MTB. Thin walled chromoly steel. It is still serving me well. Mid level Shimano groupo. Believe it or not my now vintage steel bike is lighter than most aluminum bikes. Nowadays people shop online for great deals. My friend did some research and found better deals at this store for new vs used items. Even on EBAY. Specifically a late model frame. The money he saved was used in their service dept. To build to his specs. And using a majority of his groupo. And a few new parts from the parts dept. This is a great store for bicycle needs and knowledgeable staff. The wonderful associate made replacing a ripped tire a breeze. Before my arrival she pulled the specialized tire and tubing that my bike required. It was wonderful to know that before making the drive in. She quickly fixed my bicycle despite not having an appointment (wow!). She shared excellent info about why I didn't need two new tires and what to look for as tires wear with time. It was excellent info as I'm new to bike maintenance. I think their labor prices are a bit high. Bummer to be charged $6 more than what I was quoted 30 minutes earlier during a second visit. read more

Not cool! Online price for an XG-1295 cassette was $332 but it was also available on the Wheelandsprocket eBay store for $289. I asked the store if they would match their eBay price as I intended to buy a couple other items from their web store. They thanked me for pointing out the difference and promptly jacked up their online price to $415. By the way, it's still on their eBay store and Walmart marketplace store for $289. Since this is the way they engage with customers, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Don't ever let Joel from the Fox Point store leave (well, maybe only at night when the store closes). Joel's attention to customer service is above and beyond any that I have ever encountered. One recent weekday afternoon, I walked into the store, intent on researching a trunk rack for my hard-to-fit-hatchback. Joel not only did the research for me, he told me the back story on the manufacturer and the pricing on the rack. Then, when I expressed interest in buying it, Joel found one in a carton. In short sleeves, and WITHOUT A JACKET, he went out into the cold to install the rack on my car and teach me how to work it. I was amazed. These guys really are the best - an institution for a reason. I bought a beautiful big cruiser there almost ten years ago and finally brought it back in today for a little servicing. I'd been putting off adjusting the seat (which had proved tricky and beyond my skillet) and had some questions about shifting gears. I brought it back to the service desk and Mike explained what Allen wrenches I'd need if I wanted to adjust the seat (height and angle of the saddle) myself, then went to work adjusting. He took it for a spin around the lot and talked me through suggestions on shifting gears. This staff is so reliably knowledgeable and friendly - I love having a place like this in the neighborhood. And he wouldn't even let me pay him for his help. I rode what felt like a brand new bike home. You won't get better service than these guys! Thanks again Mike! read more

This summer I bought a beautiful Seedglass Appleseed Blue (Trek's way of saying "sky blue") Trek Silque road bike with the help of Jesse, Dan, and a few of the other Wheel employees. I had been doing group rides at Wheel & Sprocket for three summers before my purchase and everyone at the Wheel had always been extremely kind and accommodating to me, so purchasing my new road bike here was a no-brainer. The managers, mechanics, and floor staff are so friendly and always happy to take the time to share their bike knowledge with any interested customers. I've been wanting to get a bike for the longest time so my boyfriend and I decided to check out Wheel & Sprocket and ended up leaving with a bike for the both of us and a bike rack for our car!! We first talked to Phil and he was extremely helpful with narrowing down what exactly I wanted. He allowed us to ride bikes around the store to get a feel for them. We were still unsure on what we wanted because he gave us a great offer to two bikes. We left and decided to come back to get a bike for the both of us. We were approached by Linda the second time we went in and she was also very helpful with getting the right fit for us and making sure things were comfortable. She let us ride a couple of bikes outside to help compare the different bikes. We both decided on the Verve 2! We also purchased a bike rack for our car since we plan on riding around Milwaukee and Peter was very kind to install the bike rack on our car and showed us how to put the bikes on and secure them. I've never had a service that went way beyond my expectations like this ever before! Did I mention that it was about an hour after close and these guys were still helping us and attentive at that? I felt bad for keeping them behind but they didn't seemed to be bothered at all. If I could give a million stars, I would. I loved everything about my experience here!! Compliment Let me start out with a compliment for Jessie the manager of this store who literally drops everything to help anyone, and for an outstanding selection of Trek bikes and accessories. Concerns The issue is the continuing (and likely the last time for me) dismissive attitudes of the overly self important staff. I go out of my way to patronize my local businesses and regional shops like W&S, and I am an avid cyclist who moved here from a strong Colorado biking community. Please support your local shops I have years of experience in local bike shops and I usually can tell if I want to come back by the attitudes of the staff when I ask for a simple/inexpensive bike accessory. If they help me with that item - with as much enthusiasm as trying to sell me a bike, that is who I will buy from. I was ready to buy a bike yesterday but W&S FP lost that opportunity. I appreciate the brick and mortar shops in a tough competitive environment, and I will continue to support them with purchases for my 8 different bikes including road, MTB Xc, MTB CC, Cruiser, Comfort, WSB, Hybrid. I am always interested in more bikes! I continue to hope the best for W&S, however, I won't be stopping in for a while even though I ride by the shop nearly every time I ride on Lake Dr. My Recommended Bike Shops : I have had excellent service at Zuzu in Port Washington (ride in ride out - they were very fun and helpful - I ended up filling my backpack with fun accessories! Wheel and Sprocket is definitely worthy of a 5-star+ rating. If you imagine a mom and pop community-oriented store with a focus on great customer service, these guys are at the top of the pack. Yes, they sell bikes and gear and yes, their prices are fair and have a great selection but what stands out to me is their customer service and attention to detail. My wife has bought several bikes from them and continues to get excellent service for both simple brake and wheel adjustments to full-blown bike overhauls. She even attended a bike-building session where they helped her build the rest of the bike around a frame she had found. These guys are also so involved in the community - from sponsoring rides to supporting the American Diabetes Association rides and a myriad other events. When you say a retail establishment is good for the community, Wheel and Sprocket exemplifies that statement. read more

Okay, first of all I never write reviews so on the rare occasion that I write one you know its a good place. I literally bought my bike today, brought it home, took it out for a joyride and just had to say how great my experience was. I am not an avid rider. I havent ridden a bike in maybe 4 or 5 years but I live on the east side so I figured its about time. I had tested out the Trek 820 a while back so I knew what I wanted going in. I found my bike in the store, found an employee, and showed him the one I wanted. Super fast, super easy, super nice employee. Sorry I dont remember his name. He even helped out with helmet selection and showed me the different ones. Very honest, very personable. I usually dont like bike stores. Im just not knowledgeable at all so this was a pleasant surprise. I would say from walking in to walking out with bike in hand took about 30 minutes. I definitely reccomend wheel & sprocket for your biking needs! All around great experience for someone who knows nothing about bikes. read more

Came here on the 25th looking for a bike for my birthday and I was overwhelmed by the positive experience I had. My bf and I knew some features we were looking for but Jesse, the manager, took us under his wing and started from ground zero with me. He was so knowledgable and taught me a great deal as he walked me through the process of picking out and testing a bike. He had a lot of patience as I asked questions and not once made me feel stupid or silly. The team was very accomodating to all my needs (I wanted a bell, basket, water bottle holder) and was quick to install them all on my bike before I left. Took a day trip to Milwaukee with the boy on Valentines Day. Typically we order bike parts from this place thru their online ebay store. We decided to stop by the place to see what they had to offer. We got lost on the way there so called a few times for directions. Very helpful and polite. Upon entering the store we were greeted by some of the staff and asked if we needed help. We told them we were looking for rims for my bike. The guy was honest and said he knew shit about wheels and rims so he led us to the ebay store guy who works from a giant store room in the basement. They brought us downstairs and found us exactly what we wanted in our price range. After bringing us back upstairs they offered us coffee and then talked bikes for a good hour. Such nice people and full of great knowledge about bikes. I would definitely go to this place! read more

The store is nice but as soon as they make the sale, you are on your own. I bought a high end bike. I was so excited after it finally arrived. However had so many issues. Phil, the salesperson never helped. He was only interested in selling but completely ignored me when I explained my issues and said he had nothing to do with it. His interest in helping vanished after I paid for the bike. The service department could never fix the issue I had (gears never worked well). I finally bad to take it to another shop to get things fixed. Considering they are a Trek authorized dealer, they do a terrible job. For a cheap bike of accessories, is likely an ok store but if you buy something high end, you wont have good customer service. The brookfield store is definitely much better and worth the trip. read more

Got the kind of treatment I would expect to get in Fox Point. Walked in and someone said hello to me, I said hello back. Then I walked around the entire sales floor and no one approached me to ask if I needed any help or had questions. Plenty of sales people were milling about doing nothing or chatting with each other. Good selection of high-end bikes, most were $500 or more. Obviously, I didn't buy anything because no one offered to help me, even when I stopped to look at things right in front of them. Also, to add insult to injury a Fox Point police officer was parked in the parking lot blocking the throughway with his car running, chatting with a woman in a car the whole time I was in the store, even though there were empty spots surrounding his car. read more

They have a huge selection of bikes to fit all types of riders - beginners, racers, off-roaders, urban commuters, kids, adults, etc. The service department is fast and talented. Need accessories or clothing to complete your riding experience - no problem. Even if you haven't been on a bike for 30 years, W&S will treat you well. This W&S is located just off Lake Drive in a former Kohl's grocery store. The place is huge. There's also a W&S bike expo every spring, held at State Fair Park. This is a good time to get a bike for the coming warm weather riding season. I've purchased several bikes at W&S over the years. If you need advice or are ready to shop, check them out. read more

10 out of 10 doesn't do justice to Wheel & Sprocket, I wish I could give them a higher rating! For the past 21 years they have been my "go to" source for all things bike related. I've never been interested in learning a lot about bikes, but I sure do love riding them! ( I ride on average between 4-5,000 miles a year.) I'm the person who shows up and says can you fix the squeaky thingy, and I am treated with respect and kindness. It's been awhile since I bought a new bike, but as I recall they took their time explaining all the possible options and I ended up with a bike I adore ridding. Wheel & Sprocket is the place to buy bikes in Milwaukee. They have a great selection of bikes and biking accessories as well as a small selection of other fitness equipment. Their staff is really knowledgeable and clearly passionate about biking. Their prices are fair, and I don't feel like they try to oversell you on items. In fact, when we were trying to decide between two different types of bike carriers, we were actually steered towards the less expensive model. I appreciate that kind of honesty. read more

Great selection of bikes and, if you go at the right time, you will find the staff helpful and friendly. Service quality is excellent and the waits are not bad at all. Pricing is sometimes iffy with a couple of corporate stiffs there at times who are a bit aggressive. I have learned to come back if I don't like the service, or just wait for someone else. One time I went in and said, "I am a dope about X." The guy carefully explained the issue to me, showed me how to do the task at hand, and had me repeat it until I was comfortable. The only reason I found this store was after a friend ranted about their awesomeness and how they helped her find a new bike. Shortly after, I unfortunately got a flat while out on a ride and because I had have never had to replace a tube before, I turned to Wheel & Sprocket to assist with the repair. I brought my bike in on a Tuesday after work and the store had a fair amount of people checking out the lot of bikes. I immediately found the service counter and was assist by one of their techs who not only replaced the tube but did a quick check of the bike to make sure there weren't any other major issues. They do tune-ups here, but the tech informed me it would be a few weeks because of the amount of bikes they already had in the queue. I imagine that toward the beginning of summer most people try to get their bikes in early. Be patient or plan ahead. Staff is super friendly. I accompanied a friend one visit when he was looking into buying a new bike - even though he was simply looking, the staff was kind enough to talk him through the various styles, bike frames, etc. without trying to give him the ol' sales pitch. The two major brands you'll see here are Felt and Trek. They have others, but if you're looking for different specific brand: call ahead. As I pulled up on my first visit, I noticed a lot of bikers in the parking lot. I discovered that during certain nights of the week Wheel hosts group rides for various age groups. Definitely looking forward to taking advantage of them in the Spring. read more
