The news appeared a little fast-paced and dynamic and delivered a little breathlessly. It seemed that everything was Very Important and Breaking Now. It felt like news on a third shot of espresso. This is an excellent station to get all of your local news, sports and weather reports. Their meteorologists are pretty good with the forecasts and I like their news anchors as well. This station airs Family Feud a couple of times per day which is always a fun game to watch. I am glad to have this station in my viewing area. read more

WHDH-TV channel 7 Boston (owned by Sunbeam Television) is not an excellent source for unbiased news reporting. On air, it is biased toward left of center and the station is blocking people on X who point out its bias - shameful of them. Turn off your televisions, people. clearly channel 7 news can't get it right on the amount of snow in Nashua nh. they said there would be a coating to 1" and they were off really big. 4 inches is a far cry from a coating to an inch. you would think they could get it right since they give themselves a buffer but even with a buffer they still are off. Lots of needless banter and chatter, several women anchors who wear odd outfits that aren't work-appropriate, but no different than other local news stations I guess. I just tuned in to hear the weather report as we're having our first snow storm in a while. This is how it went: Anchor: "And now we go to what's-her-name in downtown Boston!" Viewers see a glum looking reporter who really doesn't want to be there. She bursts into a big smile though when she realizes she's live. Reporter: "There's hardly any snow, as you can see, and what snow there is is very wet.......um.....workers have been salting the sidewalks." Camera then zooms in for a close up of salt on the sidewalk. read more

I've started to like this station more now since it lost the NBC affiliation. My favorite anchor is Jadiann Thompson.

I have to say that I can't belive the amount of totally exaggerated story's you put out an a daily basis. For example this morning it was a little slippery out and some woman went off the road on the cape. The news caster stated that the car was submerged. Dear lord she was in 1 foot of marshy water! Also a fire was being reported on and you said the firmen had to battle the fire during a snow storm... there was no snow on the ground and a few flakes were seen drifting by... your reporting is grossly over exaggerated. Another example, two weeks ago we had a noreaster on some high tides... yes we had some splash over but your report and I quote " catastrophic damage" you people are out of your mind, no houses were being swept away, no boats were dashed upon the shore w loss of life and limb, you showed a clip of gravel and small rocks on a road up in Maine. So pathetic, so sadly pathetic. Get your shit together and stop this crap reporting you should be ashamed. read more

This is the only channel I currently have the patience to "watch" (read: passively listen to) as I get ready in the morning. The anchors are a little weird, and mess up reading their lines. I don't really blame them, it's early, and makes it a little less annoying to watch. STORM CENTER COVERAGE. Too extreme for words. Seriously guys? It's snowing. It might snow more, or stop for a while, then start again. You don't know! As for real news coverage? It's not really all that useful. I flip on NECN for that. March 5th and 6th. Channel 7 Weather Team predicts "mostly rain" for the South Shore and little or no snow accumulation in Boston for March 7th and 8th. Well, there's now a foot or more of snow in the Boston area. South Shore even more than a foot. Bottom line: If you are not sure about forecasting a storm, just shut-up. I would really only give them 1 star, but since they are an NBC affiliate I will give them an extra one. NBC, however gets 5 stars, since they are showing one of my current favs. "Heroes", and I have been enjoying NBC programming since embryotic. What's my beef with WHDH? Something leaning toward ridiculous, I'm sure, but still extremely annoying to me. I love the Today show. I've watched it since but a wee lass, caught it when I was sick at home, and now tivo it to watch later and fast forward through repetitive crap. I mean, after all, who needs to see the wheather report twenty times within a few hours, right? Well until tivo took away my ability to get East coast and West coast channels(a very sad story indeed) I could watch the Today show in its entirety, and didn't know there was any other way to watch it. Now here I am, stuck with WHDH in Boston, where to my surprise(annoyance, disgust, total frustration) the programming director sees fit to butcher the Today show into two bits with equally annoying Regis and Kelly in between. Okay, Kelly isn't that bad, and is actually cute and funny, too. Anyway... What is the deal?! I wrote to the station and asked why they interrupt the Today show with Regis and then show the remaining hour afterwards. The response... because "that's the programming director's decision". Well, freakin' DUH!? Who wouldn't know that?! But my question is Why? To what purpose? Is the programming director getting some type of kickbacks, bribes, payola perhaps? Is he being blackmailed... do they have some racy photos of him in a ballerina tutu, flippers and nipple clips, somewhere? Come on people! The insanity must end! Get it together.... as in, put the Today show back together, and let it free to live and roam and graze happily in its entirety, where I can enjoy fast forwarding, once again, through another window treatment segment, or weather report with carefree abandonment, whilst never having to entertain another thought about Regis interrupting my time. read more

We have recently moved to Boston which is TV Market 7 by the way. Previously, we lived in Columbus, OH and Nashville, TN, markets 32 and 29 respectively. One would thus think that any Boston station would vastly outshine ones in smaller market cities. Alas, not so. The TV anchors and reporters are fine--clearly the station wants good-looking people and nice personalities. They deliver what is written for them. The problem lies, in my opinion, with the news director. The station runs the same stories over and over and over and over--get the point? Some stories which in many cities would get one run, reappear throughout the week. Again, many of the "interest" stores come from other cities--likely picked up on the NBC feed. Someone needs to get out and get some local news and then keep it fresh. read more

I have to admit that I enjoy watching Channel 7's later-evening newscasts (at 10 pm on Channel 12, and on 7 at 11 pm) because I like their fast-paced-news-delivery style, and I do believe they have the best-dressed anchors on local Boston's often-dowdy news TV. But I am constantly amazed: do they purposely hire anchors with annoyingly odd first and last names and voices, or do they first hire anchors and then deliberately change their names (Gunnoe) and coach them to deliver the news in unbearable-sounding voices (Ann Allred)?!? read more

A car fire on the I-5 freeway in California should not be breaking news that disrupts local programming here in Boston. An event that happened at 4:30 AM should not be called "Breaking News" during the 11 PM newscast. That's called a developing story. Just because you have flashy graphics and good looking, young anchors and reporters doesn't mean you have a good product. It doesn't matter if you're first with breaking news, it matters if your sources and facts are sound and correct before telling the public what is happening. For instance, telling us that the plane that crashed at the Norwood airport was a Cessna when in fact it was a Piper. Good for you, you're first to tell us what's going on. My husband sometimes turns this station on for news and I can't stand it. Sooooo dramatic and heavy emphasis on certain words and phrasing. They are not at all natural and overly dramatic. Channel 7 is describing the predicted effect of a tropical storm as Extreme! What a disservice the viewers and the community.

channel 7 news is the worst news station in boston. the station is into more special effects than anything else. pete bouchard is probably the worst meteorologist on tv. he is way too casual and doesn't give a concise forecast. i think when HE is off the air he watches channel 4 and 5 and then changes his forecast because it's always different at the top of the hour. finally i think you should dump the 4pm news 5pm is early enough. read more
