Fast service & friendly. It's a Whataburger in the airport. The prices honestly didn't seem to be gouging you like other establishments in the airport. So, that's was nice. I mean the spicy chicken sandwich I got was $8 & some change. They did have the option for tipping. But this society has become tip obsessed. I don't know pay your employees a living wage like the EU does. ‍‍‍ Where you do not tip. Where I grew up. Anyway. The sandwich was hot off the cooker, but looked burnt when I opened it. I took a few bites, then just tossed it. These spice level was low, but had an area that was a spice bomb. But, the employees were a joy. I don't eat Whataburger too often, as there aren't any where I live. The staff was very friendly and the service was quick. The fries were perfectly salted and I was happy to have gotten a table to sit and eat there before going to my gate. I've popped through here when at the airport previously and I have to say I have had a better burger but this one wasn't bad. Note to self: ask for ketchup, as I didn't realize how mustard forward my burger would be. It was good just not the best I've had there. Had a five star experience here thanks to Adrienne. I enjoyed a delicious burger before a flight and my only regret was not having more time to order a second one. Yes, really, it was that good. The customer service I received was awesome because it was friendly. Travel can be stressful so the last place you need pushback from is when you're ordering a meal. There was plenty of seating available and the order was up very fast despite it being full of travelers. It wasn't too loud or anything so the order was called out perfectly and I enjoyed the environment and experience. I've been eating Whataburger for what seems like my whole life. Since I no longer live in Texas, I'm always happy to be flying from airports that have a location. When I was flying out of San Antonio last weekend, I saw that bright orange in the area of one of the airport's small food courts, and I had to stop. If you've been to a Whataburger before, you know what you want. And this location has the same menu as any Whataburger location. I've seen this place in Texas so I wanted to check it out and saw one at the SAT Airport Terminal. I had to get it. The service was great with the employees being super friendly (the southern charm) and recommending things for me since I've never had it before. Foodwise, I got everything a la carte such as the double burger Junior from the kids section and 9 piece plain chicken nuggets. It should've came with honey butter sauce on the side since they charged me for it and I was looking forward to it too. That was disappointing. Good food, good quick service despite the long lines which go by fast. The ambience was chill, it's the airport so people are either tired, hungry or hungover from their travels and celebrations. I only ordered a burger no cheese, extra pickles with jalapeños and extra mustard. All that makes me smile and the bread is soft and easy on the teeth. My burger looks small in photo but it was actually a good enough amount for me. Not sure why it looks small on photo bc it was just the right amount of size for a burger. I was in Texas for 2 weeks, had plans for so many other places to go and was told by family to try Whataburger. We always passed it I saw it everywhere we went but still had no chance to try it till the day we were leaving. We saw it at the airport and I told my mom to get it with our food vouchers because our plane was delayed twice. We had all the time now to try it and I must say that my family was right. It was delicious. The fries were good and the first to go. The burger was yummy as well. How is it possible to get cold food at a whataburger that is busy, has no drive thru to contend with? Order and wait for 10 minutes for your food to come out cold? Since I'm reviewing, might as mention--when I ordered, the lady taking order asked me if a large coffee was ok and I answered with, "that's ok, I'll take a small"...she replied with "we only have large", lol. What is the point of asking!!! After eating, I sat and watched the kitchen prepare orders to try to figure out how the food could be cold. Here's the answer: they prepare the orders and line them up in the back, three to four deep before bringing to the pickup window. So, if you're lucky enough to get the last order in that group, you'll get a hot meal, if you're the first one that was prepared, definitely gonna be cold. Is this the laziness or efficiency? TLDR: If you're looking for a quick bite while at the airport, it's a decent-to-good choice. Service is brusque but fast; ambiance is really non-existent due to it being in the middle of a busy airport. Expect to pay a slight premium for convenience. However, what I got was hot and fresh, which counts a great deal if you're on the go. If you're familiar with Whataburger, you'll get no bad surprises. I do hear that they open later than advertised, so YMMV if you're here at 4am! This place scores a 4 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Gravy Baby! I am a Texas girl born and raised but considered a Vegas local now. I love coming home to Texas and having all the greats I grew up with. I love that this Whataburger is inside the airport. They are always fast and nice. We even had an airport employee named Stephen that was phenomenally friendly offering to help with trash or assist with anything needed. I love the burgers. I guess you either do or you don't. This is what I grew up with so I will rave all day long. Also Whataburger gets big points for me for allowing me to order a side of gravy for my fries and charging less than $1. This is a make or break it for me. How many places can you get gravy for your fries......and good gravy. I always love my simple Whataburgers with half and half sweet/unsweet. They get it right every time. The staff if always super friendly and they are pretty quick. I mean don't try to order if you only have 15 minutes before your flight though but that is just common sense. If you have the app, it doesn't apply here at the airport. I think they are great and am super happy that my whataburgers are good cold. I always grab an extra to go and eat it cold the next day. I am super grateful for Whataburger in the airport. I spent almost three weeks in San Antonio, but didn't visit a Whataburger until my very last day in the Alamo City. There was even a location within walking distance of my hotel in downtown San Antonio, but was reluctant to try since I didn't think it would taste much different than any other regular burger I've had in the past. During my last week, one of my co-workers encouraged me to try Whataburger and see what I think. He also encouraged me to pay Buc-ee's a visit in New Braunfels, but then again, he also said he wasn't a fan of In N Out. Really now? lol Curious to see if Whataburger would really make me go "What a burger!" after eating it, I decided to step in line to order. They seemed to have the longest lines among all eateries in Terminal A of the airport, but I can safely say if there's a long line, it's not necessarily worth waiting for. I wasn't that hungry, so I was hoping to try just one burger. I was thinking of the regular #1 Whataburger, but it looked pretty ordinary and plain. I wanted to kick it up a notch (or two) and add bacon and cheese, surely one of the best 1-2 punches for a burger add-on! So I simply went with the #5 Bacon and Cheese Whataburger a la carte. The wait was about 10 minutes before an employee called out my name. It didn't seem like the kitchen crew was hustling with every order taken at the register. When I got my takeout bag, I went to a nearby table to try my very first burger at Whataburger. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a bad burger, but it didn't really leave much of an impression. While I like how there was plenty of bacon in the burger, the taste of the cheese was nowhere near as prominent. In fact, the burger as a whole didn't really stand out at all. And considering this is inside the airport, you could probably spend that money on a fancier burger elsewhere. My Bacon and Cheese Whataburger was about $8 after tax, but it was more like a Whateverburger lol. Overall, I'm glad I tried Whataburger, but it paled in comparison to, say, a Double Double Animal Style. Glad I didn't get a Whataburger meal whenever I explored downtown San Antonio! Please add mobile option for SAT airport location! Was leaving San Antonio around meal time and decided to try the Whataburger inside the airport. The line was long and I saw a mobile pick up window so decided to download the app. I was greeted with a free Whataburger for setting up an account but there was no option to create a mobile order for the airport location. I ended up just going through the regular line and the mobile pick up area was just the regular pick up area. We've seen Whataburger on roadtrips but never stopped. You can imagine our excitement when we finally got one in our hometown. That excitement was quickly quenched - it was horrible. Even my BIL, whose idea of fine dining is Subway swore he'd never be back. Fast forward to Sunday. We had a 5:30 flight out of SAT. We were traveling with extended family, including an 18 month old. That right there tells you we were running late. Since our flight was two hours, we were going to miss dinner - you have to understand this - my husband DOES NOT miss a meal. If he does, he gives new meaning to hangry. Whataburger had the shortest line and should be the fastest of any of the concourse restaurants. They were quick, we had our food in under 10 minutes of arriving in the queue. The hamburger that I got really surprised me - it was delicious (for fast food). Hot, juicy and filled with toppings. It's what you expect to, but don't always, get at a burger joint. Everyone in our group agreed - the SAT Whataburger really kicked it out of the park! Airport Whataburger 6:40 AM, Wednesday. Ordered a meal with chocolate milk. "We're out of chocolate milk." Okay, lemonade then. I'll have another meal with Dr. Pepper. "We're out of Dr. Pepper. ... We're also out of Sprite." Whoever the manager is of this location, they're setting up the staff for failure. Notoriously stressful environment amps up stress for travelers by not being able to give them what they ask for. (The dead-eyed, deadpan ambivalence of the cashier certainly didn't help. Official Grand Opening Ceremony was 9/23/2022 and I purposely flew out on a Friday for it. Am I nuts or what? Nuts for whataburger!!! Ok, it was a coincidence I happened to be here and honestly, it made that area of the airport kind of a mess around 10a, luckily I got to snag breakfast before the mayhem began. This chain is loved by Texans almost as much as Texas it self. They say everything is bigger in Texas and after a trip to the urinal, I quickly realized that's not true. However, the burgers at Whataburger are pretty big. My first batch of fries tasted like they brought them from the first Whataburger grand opening. They were chewy and stale AF. I took them back and they replaced them with a less old version, but by no means, fresh. If this is what I can expect when all of the big wigs from corporate are there, I can imagine it's only downhill from here. The staff was friendly (and probably on their best behavior), the burger was delicious, and the fries were the only bad part of the meal. So 4 stars for now but it's trending down. read more
