I used to work for a company that was HQ'd in Plano, TX. Having said that I NEVER ended up going to a Whataburger because there was an In-N-Out close by and I was a fan at the time. So when this store opened up, I was psyched to go. First of all, I give a break because it was a new store, but this place is still a hot mess. The lines are ridiculous, but it is made worse that of the 3 cash registers, only one was open....and being run a kid who was slower than molasses. A line that could have been cycled in 5-6 minutes took nearly 25 minutes to get through. Of course, by the time I got to the front, someone realized this kid was struggling and opened the other registers. I ordered the Patty Melt and an order of large onion rings, as I was told this was the menu items to get. The bill came out to a ridiculous $11.42. And what I got in return was a burger I could have made at home for less than a couple of dollars. In fact, I invited a few friends, bought some canned mushrooms, swiss cheese, texas toast and some 83% patties and recreated the burger for about $1.20. And whatever their "secret sauce" was I just used some leftover thousand island dressing and mustard. The onion rings were a bit better, the batter was nice, but the biggest problem was that it did not fill up the contain. I felt a large rings was basically a medium order in a bigger box. Kansas City and the surrounding areas are filled with specialty burger joints like Smashburger, Wahlburgers, BurgerFi and good burger fast food joints like Shake Shack, Culvers, Freddy's as well as sit down places like Burg and Barrel, BRGR.....All of which were better than Whataburger. I think that this place fills the needs of transplant Texans and when the hype dies down and the Mahomes fans (I heard he's a part owner) and the curious find out that this places is just another burger joint, anyone will be able to pull into the drive-in line without have a cop guide traffic. read more

We waited in line for just over one hour. One hour. All I ordered was a #1 and it took an hour. My wife and I decided we were there and since it's new we should just wait it out and try it. It is absolutely not worth waiting for one hour. I don't know why it took so long. The line was long but I've been to Chick-fil-A and In-N-Out with much longer lines and gotten out within a fraction of the time. The employees were not overly friendly and didn't seem bothered by the long wait at all. The burger was soggy and the French fries were luke warm. The best part of the meal was the Dr. Pepper shake. I'd go and get it again but the horrible wait time has deterred me from doing so. If you're interested in trying Whataburger, maybe try the Lee's Summit location. I go in about 2:15 pm on a Friday. Not busy, but diners are sat down in front. About 1/3 full. I stand at the counter for a few minutes and in this time no less than 5 employees get to within 3 to 4 feet of my proximity as they are walking around, going in and out from the kitchen. Not a one of them acknowledged me, did not say "someone will be right with you", or even so much as look at me. At 6'4" and 300 lbs, that's quite a trick. None of them were teens (who I can kind of excuse). Some were certainly past 40. A mature woman wearing a headset came out carrying some sort of condiments. I figured she must be taking them to a table and she will take my order when she returns. Nope, just blew me off coming back same as a couple times before that. Nobody looked to be in a hurry or had any expediency in their actions. I mention this because they were clearly not under duress. Now I should note I'm not the kind who likes over friendly wait staff. Just take my order and get me fed. They couldn't seem to even do that so I left. Ended up going across the parking lot to Big Biscuit who was closing in 20 minutes. The place was empty but all 3 employees in the dining room greeted me warmly, got my order to me quickly and let me eat. Whatta should really hire their manager with a good pay bump. read more

Whatajoke. Today was my first (and last) experience at this place. I stood at the counter for over five minutes before anyone took my order. Several employees walked past me multiple times w/o acknowledging my presence. There was only one table seated in the whole place and the drive-thru wasn't even busy either. I then waited over ten minutes for them to bring out a room temperature burger and fries. They didn't earn the one star that Yelp requires. Absolutely inexcusable and pathetic. read more

I would give a zero if that was an option, Sat in the drive thru (3PM Sunday) with no movement for 30 minutes after I already paid. I was able to back my vehicle out of the drive thru line and go inside to cancel my order and get a refund. The manager just said sorry we were having an issue with the grill. After he refunded me he changed his story to say "I was in the back and two of my line cooks left and nobody told me". Two other folks did the same as me and came in to cancel their orders. One person said they were going to be late for work. The manager was totally oblivious, he should have been outside telling the 15 cars in line what was the problem was. In that sense, I honestly had high hopes for this 135th Whataburger store. Now, let me say this very loud and clear: shame on you! I have been to this Whataburger at 135th St three times and every time it disappointed me: in fact, this is the worst fast-food restaurant I have ever been to. First time, I did not get my onion rings, the soda machine was down (no ice), the beef patty was cold and stiff ; second time, I got the wrong burger, and the soda machine was down (no ice and no lemonade); and this third time, I did not get my fry, the soda machine was down (no lemonade), the burger was overwhelmed with mustard sauce and nothing else, and the beef patty was cold and stiff. Let me ask this question: is this a franchised store or a directly owned store by Whataburger? If this is a franchised store, the franchisee's rights should be terminated immediately; and if this is a directly owned store, the current owner should be ashamed of yourself! Yes, I say this, again, very loud and clear: shame on you, the Whataburger owners! You are astronomically light years away from In N Out, and, based on the performance of this 135th store, the Whataburger name is not even worthy of being mentioned next to the In N Out name. I am from Texas and this was the WORST experience ever. The chicken sandwich tasted like chemicals. I threw it away. Now I have strange sores in my mouth. The kids at the window, "two boys", teenagers. One boy overflowed a coke on the fountain, and the other one screamed GOD DAMN!!!! Ive visited this location 15-20 times since its grand opening. Throughout this time I've been constantly experiencing the worst fast food service ever from this location more than any other restaurant I've visited. Simple orders such as a single shake will take 20-30 minutes. Several of my orders have been completely forgotten and it wasn't until I mentioned it to the cashier or manager several times that I actually receive my food. Even when the drive through is very small and the lobby quite dead food will take ages to receive. Through curiosity of what could possibly be taking so long to get the food out I decided to take a peek into the kitchen/staff area to find 80% of the employees laughing/dancing/on their phones and just goofing off in general...makes sense why the food takes so long to get out. In conclusion the Wataburger on 135th and Antioch has the worst fast food restaurant service Ive ever experienced and I simply can't recommend. read more

Alright, I gotta pop in and share the story about my first Whatburger experience. and let me tell you, what a burger! So my buddy and I are down in Kansas City, right? Down by the speedway. We were talking about what to eat for lunch. We both start eyeballing the Chick-fil-A, when right next door, there's the Whataburger. My buddy said we should try it. Now look, I felt like a sex offender around a school or playground, I've never been with 1,000 feet of one right? So we pull in there and one of the local crackheads opens the door for us. Much appreciated, sir! We go in and line right up. Two southern gentlemen are right in line behind us. The wonderful lady asks what I'd like, and I order a triple cheeseburger, not having a clue what I'm getting myself into. I start hearing the southern folk talking, one saying "Man, did he just order a triple?" At this point, I start sweating. The lady asks if I wanted two or three slices of cheese. Oh boy, I can't get just one? My buddy decides to pull the trigger and orders the same thing. The boys behind us don't say anything. My buddy is a little more full-figured, so he probably looks like he can handle it. Me on the other hand? I'm maybe 150 pounds on a good day. In other words, a regular brick could keep my body down at the bottom of a river. I'm the kinda guy NASA looks for when they need astronauts, short, smart, and skinny. I was in shock when I found out our meals were almost $30 together. I was buying, well, because I'm a nice guy. Those large cups are pretty big too! We go sit at the table with our number, and one of your fine folks brought our food over after a few minutes. And boy, were those burgers big! He came at us with two trays, but all of our food was on one. He sits it down, then swings this other one over. It was like the Holy Grail of condiments! I only took a couple things of Ketchup for the fries, but I wanted the whole thing to go home with me. I unwrapped my burger and started feeling my arteries clog just from looking at the myocardial infarction in its delicious form. I start going to town on this bad boy, and it was delicious! My buddy was telling me he thought it was good also, and that the patties for Whataburger and some other chains probably all come from the same place. I assured him that they all did, in fact, come from a cow. We both finished our respective meals, and I even cleaned out that huge cup of Coke. We were both feeling pretty full. Fast forward to a few hours later. Dinner time. I was sitting back at my Nebraska home, not feeling my usual desire for food around that time. My buddy gets ahold of me and tells me the exact same thing. I wind up going to sleep, waking up around 10am on a Tuesday, because what person in their early twenties doesn't do such a thing on a day off? I wake up, having no desire for breakfast. Lunch time comes around, and I go ahead and eat something. Not because I needed or wanted to, but just that I felt weird for not eating for almost 24 hours. I really was wanting to go back to Whataburger, but it's a bit of a drive. After my first experience at Whataburger, I learned that a $15 meal is definitely JUSTIFIABLE if it means you only have to stop once for food for an entire day! Once again, Whataburger leaves me saying "why?". I checked my order before leaving the parking lot-we're short fries. Went back and got them. I should have checked both burgers. The one I checked was okay (but had onions, which it shouldn't have, but it was a double cheeseburger). When I got home I discovered what should have been a double cheeseburger with ketchup only (as I ordered and the receipt said) was a single hamburger with lettuce, tomato, onions and mustard. And both burgers were cold. The pups enjoyed their burgers. This is our 4th visit to this place (we believe in second chances). One time the food was what we ordered and hot (and delicious!). Decided to finally try this place as its been hyped for so long. Pretty slow part of the day as it was around 4:30 or 5 on a weekday. I decided to cruise the drive thru lane. It wasn't busy at all but these people could not get my order right. They tried to give me an order that wasn't mine and when I told them it wasn't mine, they asked " well, your name is Brent, right?" Yep it is and then they explain that its gotta be my order. WTF! So yeah, I had to raise my voice to get the point across that it ISN'T my order and handed the milkshake back that they tried giving me. Now, they had already gave me a bag of food that I thought might be mine since I hadn't gone thru it yet but another worker came to the window to hear my grievance. She seemed more intent to get the order right and by then, the bag of food handed me earlier wasn't mine. I gave the woman the food telling her the whole order was wrong and she walked off in search of the correct bag of food. In the meantime, she came back with an apple pie to give me - She ends up dropping this pie out of the window onto the nasty ground beside my vehicle. At this point, I say that I need another plus the goddamn cinnamon roll that they hadn't gave us yet. Finally, they gave us the new bag of food, the desserts, and drinks and I think everything is fine and dandy. Now, I planned on asking for the ketchup and condiments that I wanted to try but after this cluster-fuck debacle, I totally forgot and left without. Guess I'll never try them. I get home, unload the food - burgers are right, drinks are right, everything seems great except.... my order of fries are not there. What the goddam fuck! I went thru all that for this shitty ass meal for my wife and I. Burgers were mediocre at best, fries were decent, desserts were ok. For fuck sakes - we will not be going back. TL:DR - Can't get an order right and the food is mediocre at best. I won't be going back. If I could, I would give 0 stars. it was that bad. read more

The long drive thru line was filing cars through one lane because they didn't have enough staff for two lanes. I chose not to wait more than 30 minutes. I gave it one more chance today. Both windows open, but no one would take my order. I finally had to walk up to the window, after sitting there for 10 minutes just trying to get someone's attention. Their response? 'Sorry.' Not, 'That lane isn't working.', Or, 'We apologize, what can we get you?' Good help is hard to find, it's true. Customer service has really suffered and this is no exception. The level of unprofessionalism was astounding. There are two drive thru lanes but for every one person they served in one lane, they would serve 3-4 in the other lane. I said "hello" twice as I thought they didn't realize I was in line. Someone finally said "Hold On!". 4 cars later she finally said "Name Please?" extremely rude and spoke over me as I was trying to order. I totally understand the busyness and was prepared to wait, but the rude attitude was uncalled for. I've loved this place for awhile and was excited they were coming to Kansas. I first rated 4 stars. It is now a 2 and not good. The place is filthy. They want u to use a Kiosk but one of the two were broken. Two of the four sandwiches were incorrectly prepared. The order was incomplete and it tooK two additional trips to the counter to correct. The receipt says there is a code to fill out online for f feedback. There is not. The only code is alpha not numeric as listed on the website. Wendy's and Burger King are better and cheaper. read more

I don't understand what all the hype was about. When I went (inside) it was packed and took what seemed like an hour to get three meals. It was my first time trying it so I had somewhat high hopes especially when Culver's exists. When the food finally came I was not impressed. The burger was about the size of a whopper from Burger King, so they do have the "everything's bigger in Texas" thing going on, but it was hard to finish. They only put mustard on their burgers, no ketchup no mayo no special burger sauce NOTHING. It was a dry, mustardy burger that left me clutching my drink. The fries were, at best, just okay. The spicy ketchup was the best thing I had when I was there but I won't go back just for ketchup. In my opinion, there are wayyyyyy better places to get fast food, especially if you're in a rush. Go to Wendy's, Culver's, McDonald's, literally anywhere else and you'll have a better experience. I'm sure you could go home and grill up your own burger by the time you exit the drive thru. Spend your hard earned cash elsewhere. At least Mahomes likes this place. read more

Whatadisappointment! Ordered 2 meals, one of them only had ketchup and mustard with no other toppings when it was ordered to add ketchup. The wife thought that burger was just ok.Onion rings were not very good, fries salty and cool. I ordered a regular Whataburger, other than salt it had no flavor and was dry. I only ate 1/3rd of the burger and threw out the rest. Even without the hype the place was terrible. I should have gone to Sonics or Culver's. read more
