Tried Whataburger in Overland Park for the first time, after having it once before in Dallas. The restaurant was very clean, and the staff were friendly and patient while we took our time ordering. As for the food, it's definitely classic fast-food style greasy, heavy, and hearty. It's not really my personal preference, but that's probably just because I'm not used to eating this type of meal. Overall, great service and a clean space, but the food just isn't quite my style. read more

All my life I've heard that Whataburger was the place to go if you wanted a solid burger. I gotta say this has gotta be the driest burger I've had and there's just too much mustard overall, that's basically all I can taste. Better or just going to McDonald's or Wendy's if you're looking for a solid burger. Service was really great though, servers were very prompt and they took the time to recommend some other favorites (sadly it wasn't for me) and they were just friendly overall. Place is actually updated and the drive through was efficient. Service was nice but wish I could say the same about their food. read more

Went on a Sunday at 2:30 pm. Three other tables there. First of all we couldn't find a clean tables so I got napkins and cleaned one of ketchup and ice cream. Man who waited on us had long chest hairs flowing out the top of his shirt. The burgers were ok, very greasy. I don't get the hype? We waited 10 minutes for our order went they had everyone else served. Missed managed. read more

It's good to finally have a Whataburger in Overland Park. I'm a fan of their large, tasty, reasonably priced burgers, but they also offer breakfast, salads and chicken sandwiches. My #1 Whataburger meal included a 5" x 2" burger, medium fries and a 32 oz. drink for $7.69. It was brought to my table two minutes after I ordered at the counter, where the service was accommodating and nicely trained. The burger had a perfectly cooked, but thin, beef patty with mustard and fresh veggies (including crisp lettuce) on a fresh bun. I found the fries to be tasty without being too greasy and the spicy ketchup was a nice addition. This location offered a basic dining area inside with two drive thru lanes outside. The app offers good discounts. Overall, A-OK for the price. read more

Welcome to Overland Park, Whataburger! After driving by and seeing LONG lines for several days, I stopped in for a breakfast visit and was pleasantly surprised with the short wait time inside and outside of the store. I opted for the #25 (Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit) Whata-meal with hash browns and coffee. Coffee was freshly brewed when I arrived, and has self-serve capabilities for refills. Biscuit was a little crumbly, but hash browns were crisp and delicious! Can't recommend the spicy ketchup enough - just enough spice to add some solid flavor. Looking forward to coming back to have lunch/dinner. If you're a first timer, be sure to download the mobile app to collect rewards (every 5 visits + free Whataburger when you sign up). read more

Nope. Just don't do it! I wish I can give this place negative stars. Service is like molasses. The reviews are correct. If you really want to eat here you're better off getting off the car and go inside to order. The drive thru is the worst thing. On Saturday night we got stuck behind someone for 20 minutes before going in reverse and leaving. They have been open for a while you would have thought they would figured it out by now. The service is not the best. Efficiency is not something they know how to be. By the time you end up getting your food it's cold. Maybe I'll try this place again in 6 months since it's the only thing open late at night. read more

Oh Whataburger, you are such a mystery. I am stupefied at how you are able to maintain such a ferocious fan base with such lackluster service in the fast food industry. I visited this location a few weeks ago after a game night with my siblings that pushed us to that point where everyone just wanted some fast food to end the evening. Knowing this place is close to my sister in law's house, and how crazy folks are about Whataburger opening in KC we thought we should give it a go. We pull up around midnight for a snack and get in line. The line is wrapped around the building but taco bell had closed early and we were pretty committed at this point. I want to be clear on this next point, and I'm not exaggerating, it took us TWO HOURS from the time we pulled into the drive through line until we had food in our hands. The staff was friendly enough, the food was actually very good for fast food, good enough that I'd absolutely come back so long as I knew I wasn't going to get trapped in the world's most inefficient drive through line. I'm hoping HQ sees enough of these reviews to invest in helping this team out as I'm sure they're doing their absolute best, but something is amiss at why it would ever take so long at a drive through. read more

After a few minutes waiting and we got 3/4 of our drinks but ignored when I kept waiving to get the 4th as they were making the car behind me's drinks. Waited about 15 minutes at the window to get our food. When the food was finally received a burger I stated to be plain wasn't plain on the receipt either. They corrected it no questions but still took another 7-8 minutes for a plain burger. read more

Whataburger, I really wanted to love you. I really did. I've been to this location probably a dozen times since they've opened giving them a different excuse each time for why I shouldn't just go to Culvers or Freddys nearby instead. The food. It is a good fast food burger. It blows the national drive through burger chains out of the water. I would rank it up there with some of the smaller regional chains like a Culvers or Freddys. The Dr. Pepper shake is one of my favorite things ever. I'm obsessed. Unfortunately, they rarely have it and are constantly out. My biggest complaint: THE WAIT. I've waited over an HOUR multiple times for food. This wasn't opening week either. Like 5-7 cars ahead of me in the drive through at like 8:30p. I've tried to go during lunch, during breakfast, during dinner, or during "off " times like 1-2a. Nothing seems to make a difference. Going inside seems to be slightly faster, but last time I went inside there was no one ahead of me ordering and it still took 30+ minutes to get my food. No one seems to be working with any sense of urgency or purpose. It is really bad. Also, why are they so stingy with the spicy ketchup? If I order a large fry, I'd like more than one packet of ketchup please. I have to beg for more. It is a bit ridiculous. It has never been like that at any of the Texas locations I've gone to. In fact, an employee normally comes around with a huge tray of sauce and hands them out like candy. Not here. Even if the line doesn't look "too long", I'd recommend you keep going. It will be a 30+ minimum wait to get anything inside or the drive through. Hopefully they can turn this around and get the wait times down to something resembling reasonable. read more

Wow - I had high hopes with all the Mahomes hype on Whataburger, but this place is a total cluster. The drive thru layout is awful, it blocks the back row of cars for the in restaurant customers so don't park back there! The drive thru menu board speaker is on the far right of the menu board meaning you now have to look back over your shoulder since they can't hear with all the car noise from 135th and the drive thru. They ask for names at the drive thru and then can't figure out who is who (I've been asked 8 times by 3 different people what the name on the drive thru order was). I think I'm going to start giving a car description instead for my name. My wife raves about the avocado burger, personally my food is always just ok. The patty melt styled sandwiches aren't coming out with toasted buns :-( Pro Tip - park in the first row and GO INSIDE. It's faster and saves your sanity! UPDATE - had to go inside again to get the order fixed. The place is run by zombies - the exact opposite of what you find at Chick-fil-A or Culver's. No one is there to help the customer. Save the frustration and go somewhere else. read more

Whataburger - Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Melt - Burgers Near Me - Overland Park, Kansas

Bottom Line: Good food, troubled service, and clean venue. It's definitely not the best Whataburger I've had but it reminded me of the ones I've had back down in Texas. It was though, one of the worst service I've had at a Whataburger. Will probably come back when I get some hunger-pain for Whataburger but probably won't go out of my way to come here for some work-night "fast" food. Venue: The restaurant was relatively clean and there were a lot of workers going around ensuring things were wiped down and condiments were being handed out. However, the back kitchen seemed to be struggling with getting the food out and getting people's orders right. There were a lot of people inside waiting for their food or sending it back to correct the order. I had a relatively small mishap with my order but it was quickly rectified. I'm just glad I was inside and was able to double check the order. Service: although everybody was busy they were really nice and accommodating. Honestly, they take a lot of grievances and gripes with a lot of patience and grace. Some of the customers that were upset about their orders were borderline out-of-line and the service staff did a very good job of de-escalation (hence why three stars vice two). Food: the burger and shakes tasted like what I remembered back home but it wasn't the best I've had. The burger came out a bit lukewarm and the cheese tasted a little frozen. Fries were good and I once again appreciated their "spicy" ketchup condiment. Overall: I will come back but only when I get the Whataburger craving or if I'm feeling a bit homesick. Service needs a bit of work, the food was okay, and the staff were very courteous and patient. If you are curious... and have some time, give this place a shot. read more

We waited an hour and a half in the drive-thru line for a Sonic burger and McDonalds French fries. *shrug* Despite the signs plastered everywhere saying to try the Dr. Pepper shake, the machine was down, so there went that idea. *sigh* There was one young lady taking orders who was overwhelmed. The young man taking payment and delivering orders to the cars was very pleasant. Our food was lukewarm. The fries were not fresh and they messed up my husbands order. We tried it and we are cool on them. Maybe we will be back in a year when the hype has died down and the kinks are worked out. Maybe. There are far better burger places and it's simply not worth the hype or the long wait. Save your money and make your own burger and sides. You'll be a lot happier. read more

After ordering and eating our food here, the employee who served our food was in the bathroom while I was in their and told me she was sick and the manager wouldn't let her go home. She was standing in the bathroom stall grunting and saying she felt like she was gonna throw up. I was so grossed out because she was the employee making shakes and serving food. Not cool to let employees work while sick especially if they are throwing up, then also not good for employee to be telling people that. read more

Horrible service, mediocre food. I don't know why it's acceptable to sit in a drive thru at a quick service restaurant for 25-30 minutes, even in these labor constrained days. This isn't a failure of the workers imho, it's systemic and the store managers should be held accountable. With all the hype about WB coming to OP, this is a huge swing and a miss. If the burgers were life changing, I'd come back as soon as I could forget about the pain of sitting in my car. But they are solidly mediocre. Surely they must be better in Texas? read more

The door was pretty good (a little greasy but what else can you expect from fast food?) However, the long wait wasn't worth it. We decided to go late at night on a Tuesday thinking that it couldn't be that long of a wait considering the time we're showing up. Boy, were we wrong. The line was long but I've been in longer lines, I estimated about a 20-30 minute wait tops. Nope, we sat there for over an hour. I've worked in fast food at all hours and I know that it doesn't take that long to serve people unless the employees truly don't give a darn about making everyone wait. And I completely understand being understaffed. It still doesn't explain why it took that long to serve 10 cars. *Adding location history w/ time stamps for proof* read more

I'm a huge fan of Whataburger. I've come close to blows with people who claim In-n-Out is better, having had both. Historically, Whataburger is my absolute favorite "fast food" place to get a burger from and with that in mind, my favorite item on the menu isn't even a burger.. it the honey bbq chicken strip sandwich on texas toast. ANYWAY.. this specific Whataburger puts shame on the name. I've yet to come to this location without being highly disappointed. The service is unbelievably slow... Whataburger isn't known for being "fast" as its usually cooked to order but DAMN. I've yet to get out of this Whataburger in under 45 minutes, which includes using the drive-through. On top of that, they usually get the order incorrect. This last trip should have been easy. A simple double meat double cheese and a Whatachicken sandwich. How do you mess that up? I can't figure out how that simple order got messed up but it was. I'm incredibly disappointed in this location and I'm shocked that Whataburger as a franchise is willing to continue this horrible service. This location is putting shame on the name. Not how you want the first few years of the franchise in the Kansas City area to be represented. read more

Order was a pattymelt and fried chicken sandwich. Added onion rings. The cooking oil must have been rancid over heated as the onion rings left a horrible after taste..inedible. The chicken must have been cooked in the same oil fryer. Overcooked, bad taste and dry, dry, dry. Lettuce was not fresh, either. Pattymelt. The patties were dry, not juicy at all. Grilled onions were absent. Minimal cheese. Tasteless. All in all..my dog had a wonderful, very expensive, meal. This was a curbside order and picked it within 10 minutes of order. Drove less than a mile home, so no excuse for this $27 meal. I should have tasted the items before leaving the parking lot. VERY disappointed and will NOT return. We could have had a great meal at any of the surrounding eateries.. even with takeout! McDonald's will be our choice from now on. read more

Bro. Listen: I love Whataburger. I about exploded when I heard they were coming to KC. I've driven all over the country for 4 years, and down in Texas and Florida, Whataburger is king. On the days when they're doing exactly what they're suppose to do, they're excellent! Perfect burger, great shake, good fries - for what it is mind you. It's no Elk burger with fire-grilled yellow tomato I found outside Steamboat Springs Colorado in the mountains, but it's good eatin'. I've nearly fought people claiming In-N-Out is better than Whataburger; and I'll say, when they're off their game, they're OFF BAD. Well, this Overland Park Whataburger is way, WAY off brand; so far I'd say that they should just shut down and try later, or never again. To be fair, I visited 3 times over a few months from their opening. Each time they ruined my meal, took 40 minutes to make it, the lobby is an ABSOLUTE wreck, no one seems to care that they're making food for humans, the parking lot is an absolute wreck, and the adolescent employees are giggling and making nonsense profitable. It's obviously the management. I worked in fast food before, many times, and if I ran that place I'd shut it down indefinitely, fire everyone, and rehire only the best ones that care about doing a job right the first time for an honest wage for good people paying good money for good food, and then I'd pay them double and cut staff by 30 percent to offset the overhead. We'd be slower, but we'd be good. And I'd run that place like a navy ship; only way to run a kitchen, whatever we're making. I also worked in big kitchens, so I get it. The job sucks, but it's a job that provides a crucial public service, and old man Whataburger didn't make this up so a team of undisciplined kids could totally drop the ball every day for months! I know you're busy all the time, but slow down, do it right, slow is fast. Last time I visited, I ordered a hamburger plain and a strawberry shake. I received a cheeseburger and the shake was halfway in the cup, halfway out. Had to throw away the burger and go hungry because I can't eat cheese, and I didn't want to wait 20 minutes longer for a remake (or for someone to scrape the cheese off and give it back to me like I'm a moron). I don't trust this place to make my food. Sad, because Whataburger - done right - is a thing to behold. Mahomes knows the deal. He ain't wrong. It's a shame they brought this mess to my city. Damn shame. read more

today was my first time to try Whataburger.I ordered burger and fries. Burger was good but the fries were abysmal; unseasoned, soggy & cold. Just strips of raw potatoes deep fried, untouched by seasoning, then left out to be reduced to room temperature and served with an order sometime in the future which happened to be mine. Had this not been a pickup order which I did not examine until I was at home, these fries would have been given back to the restaurant. Decided to try the new Whataburger in Overland Park. Whataburger is our go to while traveling in Oklahoma, New Mexico, etc., so I'm familiar with the chain and enjoy eating at Whataburger. It's a great chain. Went in the mid afternoon to avoid the lunch crowd. Wanted to wash my hands first, so I went into the bathroom. Soap and water, but no paper towels. Walked to the counter, there were no Whataburger employees in sight. The area where drinks are self serve and you can find napkins, etc., looked as if it had been hit by a bomb, a real mess, with wet and dried soda all over the counter and floor. Trash cans were overflowing. So I left. Afterwards, I sent a comment on the Whataburger app giving my contact information. This was about three weeks ago, and I've yet to hear from them regarding this. If employees can't stock paper towels and napkins, properly maintain a clean facility for customers to eat, imagine what is happening with food preparation, cleanliness in the kitchen, etc. If management can't properly ensure cleanliness and order, or respond to valid customer comments, the business has earned it's failure. There is a lot of work that needs to be done before I can recommend the Whataburger in Overland Park. I can only imagine what a health department visit would find. read more

Having opened only recently service at this location was pretty scattered! Not having eaten at a Whataburger before I was curious to check it out and I shop in that shopping center frequently because it's near where I live. I ate inside at an off-hour in the middle of the afternoon to avoid the crowds and it wasn't very busy when I went. I wanted to eat inside so I could take my time to look at the menu. Even though it wasn't super busy I was told it could take 20 minutes to get my order. They must be woefully understaffed. Everyone I interacted with was extremely pleasant, though. No complaints there! Cutting to the chase, I wasn't that impressed with the jalapeño burger I ordered. It's a fairly large burger (thin single patty) compared to McDonald's. More along the lines of Burger King. It was OK for a fast food burger, the meal price was right, and the fries are fine. But I didn't think the burger was craveable. In other words, it was all right but I wouldn't make a special trip to eat there. In that neighborhood you'll get a better, snazzier burger at the Hy-Vee across Antioch, where the in-store restaurant has become a Wahlburger. And there it is! read more

Always slow service. Drive thru takes 5 minutes per car. Every time. Burgers are good.

Don't understand what the hype was about, anymore than I understand the long lines inside and outside the place - a week after it opened in our area! But of course we had to check it off our list; so after watching Batman we thought we'd give it a try, hoping it won't be that busy at 10:45 pm. Tho not THAT busy, but it still was busy. They did not seem to have a lot of people working, so service was pretty slow and lines moved quite slowly! Burger was very average- literally! And for a fast food place it was not fast at all. Like my son pointed out, the only advantage I see to having the place is that it's open 24/7. So would be an option when coming back late from something and trying to figure out where we can get a meal. read more

Unbelievable customer service. Went through the drive thru, sat there for a while and no one took my order. They just sat it there. They just hire anyone to work especially people with no experience and whom needs extensive training and no one has the slightest clue what the heck they're doing. I used to work for a company that was HQ'd in Plano, TX. Having said that I NEVER ended up going to a Whataburger because there was an In-N-Out close by and I was a fan at the time. So when this store opened up, I was psyched to go. First of all, I give a break because it was a new store, but this place is still a hot mess. The lines are ridiculous, but it is made worse that of the 3 cash registers, only one was open....and being run a kid who was slower than molasses. A line that could have been cycled in 5-6 minutes took nearly 25 minutes to get through. Of course, by the time I got to the front, someone realized this kid was struggling and opened the other registers. I ordered the Patty Melt and an order of large onion rings, as I was told this was the menu items to get. The bill came out to a ridiculous $11.42. And what I got in return was a burger I could have made at home for less than a couple of dollars. In fact, I invited a few friends, bought some canned mushrooms, swiss cheese, texas toast and some 83% patties and recreated the burger for about $1.20. And whatever their "secret sauce" was I just used some leftover thousand island dressing and mustard. The onion rings were a bit better, the batter was nice, but the biggest problem was that it did not fill up the contain. I felt a large rings was basically a medium order in a bigger box. Kansas City and the surrounding areas are filled with specialty burger joints like Smashburger, Wahlburgers, BurgerFi and good burger fast food joints like Shake Shack, Culvers, Freddy's as well as sit down places like Burg and Barrel, BRGR.....All of which were better than Whataburger. I think that this place fills the needs of transplant Texans and when the hype dies down and the Mahomes fans (I heard he's a part owner) and the curious find out that this places is just another burger joint, anyone will be able to pull into the drive-in line without have a cop guide traffic. read more
