Whataburger is just that a burger place, I will tell you though if you've never tried it, you need to stop and give it a shot. It's a local favorite in the regions that it serves. A lot of times it is compared to the West Coast iconic fast food restaurant In-N-Out Burger. And I have to say there is no comparison In-N-Out Burger wins, hands-down. Yeah I know I'm from the West Coast I might be biased, but I actually I'm being very fair. Whataburger has a larger menu with more to choose from but if you compare burger to Burger they will lose. This particular restaurant that I stopped at, needed some cleaning inside. Although the staff was busy with the drive up window and the line of people at the counter, they need to better manage their time and get out and clean up their tables. I eat Whataburger several times per year, all throughout the US where they have a presence. This is BY FAR the worst. The burgers were disgusting, the fries were cold, the employees were indifferent ... pickles were gross, onions were soft like marshmallows ... just a weird experience. If hungry in Las Cruces, the gas station is a better option. Also, there are numerous homeless people that sit outside the place at night harassing customers for money and food. While I am not an insensitive person, I don't wanna be accosted walking in and out of the place to throw garbage away. Went for breakfast and ordered pancakes. It took quite awhile - as if when you pulled up to the window, they would begin your order. I ordered 2 pancake platters. We received them with no butter. Coffee had a great deal of coffee grounds and was very bitter. I asked for a soft drink - they gave me the wrong one. I stepped into this location on 12/22/19 around 10:30am. I had my dog in my arms and was asked right away if she was a service animal. I told the very young looking supervisor that she indeed is. I was asked if I had her paperwork. (That's illegal) I would NEVER show paperwork to anyone being that it would violate my personal health records. I was then asked if she had a vest on.... at this point we are now just pointing out that something is "wrong" with me and let's make sure that everyone in the restaurant is fully aware of that fact. NEVER come here for lunch and pick up curbside. They all run around without a clue. No one seems to be in charge. Cars park for curbside in the middle of the parking lot and no employees ever come to see what they are doing or if they are there to pick up. App says to park anywhere and turn on your flashers. I ordered through the app and because of the early morning hour, it said the (only) way to pick up my order was through the drive thru.... It took me THIRTY MINUTES JUST TO GET TO THE SPEAKER BOX. That line was Not moving. Seriously. It wasn't moving. I saw a few employees come in and out of their open back delivery door numerous times, so I know there were at least a few of them in there. Not sure what was happening inside that kitchen, but it wasn't making food. I use to manage restaurants and I've never seen anything like this. It's hard to put into words how many times this place has saved my life. Even though it's fast food, to me it stands out from the rest because of a couple of key details: Open 24hrs. They serve orange soda. The chicken strip meal comes with toast and gravy. So so good. I can only speak for the ones here but like most businesses here, you can add chili or jalapeños to your burger. Okay so it's not drastically different from other fast food places. But it's a good solid after hours place and if you're into fast food you're prob going to like it. It's no In N Out but it has a certain something. They serve their burgers with a lot of chopped onions and I would never get one without cheese. Arrived to order walk-in told they were just closing but was told they would try to accommodate had to ask the manager only to Closed and locked door. I'm a huge King of the Hill fan and Bobby Hill LOVES Whataburger, so I was way excited to see this across the street from our hotel! Tried it out and I'm in love!! I had the grilled chicken sandwich and it was SO GOOD! I especially liked the spicy ketchup; WHY is that not an option everywhere?! From other family members, cheeseburgers were great, jalapeño cheeseburger was really good but a little light in the heat, chicken tenders were moist and perfectly tender. We ordered medium drinks but they were huge! Also got s couple of cinnamon rolls which were really tasty. A little slower paced but staff was great and patient while we went over their rather large menu.
