Waited till the grand opening chaos died down to try. As such, sent last week to give it a try. First time I have ever dined at a Whataburger. Almost made the opening of the one in Marietta GA when we went down to visit my Son and his family but missed the opening by a couple of day. Tried the one in Hickory which was one of the first to open in the area. Had a line but traffic moved at a good pace. Ordered the Double Meat Whataburger and I must say that it was very good although I prefer my Onions sliced and not chopped. Meat patties were cooked very well and were flavorful. Tomatoes and lettuce were fresh and not wilted. The Combo came with fries and a drink. Fries were crisp and properly salted. Most burger chains in the area skimp on the salt. All in all, very satisfied and will definatly come agin. read more

Came out with my sisters, mom and grandma. Everyone got their food except for my grandma, we waited for nearly 40 minutes, reminded them. They forgot again, said something again and finally got her food a complete hour after we arrived. Ridiculous. Not to mention they forgot a drink and cookie for one order. read more

This is what dreams are made of!! I am a Texas girl at heart and I am tickled to have a (Texas) Whataburger in NC. Yes, the lines are long, yes they're busy.. but they're new. What do you expect? So worth the wait, we got there before the lunch rush so we were able to order and get a table. It took about 20 minutes to get our food but worth every second. The Sweet and Spicy Burger missed me as much as I missed it. SO. GOOD. Also, nothing beats their sweet tea. Lastly, very clean inside to have so much food traffic in there! The team was working HARD, filling everything as it emptied, making sure sauces were distributed. Great work team!! Stopped for an early lunch and it wasn't too crowded. It looked like they must have had a rush prior as the dining area needed some serious attention. We were able to find a clean spot at the bar seats in the back. The counter service was average and the food was good. The only complaint on the food is the fries weren't very hot. After nearly a week after their grand opening for their second location in NC I will consider Myself satisfied and pleased. The wait was a bit lengthy (25 minutes to wait, order and leave inside) but it's still new and has training to employees to iron out. I won't fault them. Burger ruled. Sizeable, good quality and lots of flavor in the meat and toppings. The large Sweet and Spicy Bacon Burger combo price was $13.00 and some change, which given for a double burger this size and based on other locations nearby I think it was a fair price. Large fries were plentiful and hot out of the fryer when I received them. Commute to work made them colder but still warm and fresh. I'll be a repeat. read more

First time there and will not return. Food was just ok but the dining room and bathrooms were dirty. Nobody seemed to care. The one employee that did walk through the dining room refilled the napkins but didn't seem to notice the mess. Didn't care that the empty tables were dirty and when he did decide to empty the one trash can thought that shaking to open the new trash bag several times right next to you trying to eat was somehow ok to do. We always have good service, the meals are good prices and they give you a lot. They are open 24/7 and they keep it relatively clean.

This is a new location so the wait was expected. What wasn't expected was my food being made wrong not once but twice and still not corrected. My daughter and husbands meal was good but mine.. apparently just asking for ketchup only is an issue.. I got my burger brought to me with all sorts of things on it literally twice. Went there for the 1st time about a month after grand opening. Used the drive thru. There was 1 c ar ahead of me. Took forever for them to move up. Then my turn, was very slow acknowledging I was there. I ordered a patty melt with onion rings and a drink. It was $15. It had very little taste and not even filling. As a Texan, I was excited when I heard the news that Whataburger would be opening locations in NC. We happened to be driving by and went through the drive through. The line was long (this was two weeks ago) which was to be expected with a lot of folks wanting to try it out since they'd opened relatively recently. That said, the wait wasn't that bad when it was all said and done and the food was great. Got a whataburger with bacon that took me right back to my childhood. You can't expect the best burger you've ever had in your life, but it's a really solid burger and definitely a cut above most fast food joints. read more

The 2 of us made the mistake of using one of their free burger coupons for each of us . They failed to give us credit for one of the burgers. Ended up costing us $18. Never again. It's not all that. This is about the new location on N. Center St. in Hickory, NC. Got a jr. cheeseburger and hated it. Didn't know why until I realized it had mustard on it and no mayonnaise. Mustard should be on hotdogs and hamburgers should have mayo. Went back the next AM to try breakfast. Before I went, I checked the menu online specifically for this location. I ordered a gravy biscuit. The lady taking the order had no idea what I was talking about. Finally, they gave me a biscuit with a separate order of gravy. I also ordered a cinnamon roll. They didn't have them. I was told they were working on their menu so that it would accurately reflect what they actually have. New location just opened up in August. The parking lot and drive-thru line were packed as well as inside. This location is a nice new building with ample parking for tables space inside. The dining room is nice and open with triangle dome in center and one wall having windows three rows high. The ordering process is quick and simple with options to order on the self service kiosk or in person at the counter. As a North Carolina transplant originally from the midwest I have eaten at Whatabu several times and consider the burgers and breakfast foods a staple. Within 10 minutes of ordering and finding a table we had our food. I got the limited time bacon wrangler double cheeseburger with their classic fries and a limited time Dr. Pepper blackberry shake. The burger was amazing as always, they always come up with exceptional limited time burger specials and as usual this one doesn't disappoint! The fries were hot, crispy and fresh a perfect pairing with the spicy ketchup. The blackberry Dr. Pepper shake was perfect and a great way to top off an amazing burger on a hot day. Arrived at 3:48 pm... Wait time in drive through was too long and the fries we got with our order were cold and hard as if they were left over from lunchtime. The toast that I got with my strips were burnt (took a pic for Yelp and Google Reviews) and the chicken strips were so hard they were inedible! $38.53 is way too expensive to be served cold, burnt food! read more

The lettuce, and onions are always crisp, and the never-frozen beef patties are packed with flavor. The long lines is worth it though in my opinion. Ordered mobile ahead and was given the wrong order twice. Food was as expected after it took over 50 minutes of being in the drive thru. Thankfully it was still warm. Multiple employees standing around doing nothing. Luckily, employee Holly went above and beyond. If not for her, this would have been a 1 star review. I don't eat fast food often but when I do, I expect it to be half decent. We went at around 1AM to not hit the "grand opening rush". We got the 10 double meat burger box; over all, the burgers came out dry, fries cold and un-eatable. We waited for about 30 minutes which is fine for such a big order, but to wait that long and everything comes out as if it's been already been pre-made and just sitting out. We got swindled into getting the banana pudding milkshake as well, told us it was definitely better than our other favorite milkshake spot down the road. It was good but definitely not better; the flavor was for sure banana pudding, but it was WAY too sweet for my liking. The cashier was super friendly and easy to talk to, and the interior looked great, but would I go back and try this location; not for a while. read more

In the weeks and months to follow, the first two negative reviews will be buried and offset by us that really appreciate how hard Whataburger is trying. I haven't been to a Whataburger since the early 80's. Back then they were just another burger joint. I never thought more about them until moving to Cal and hearing the comparisons to In-N-Out burger. Both are leaps and bounds better than the usual fast food suspects. Just for curiosity I tried a big mac and Mickey D's recently. Very disappointed! The big mac was there best value burger, now the patties could not be any thinner and the price is more than the others. At whataburger I orders the comparable double meat whataburger. Oh my, I knew I was in for something better when making choices at the kiosk. Not the usual no choice sesame seed bun and american cheese that so many restrict us to. Nowadays at Whataburger you can free upgrade to other cheese and bun choices. I had the brioche bun and Jack cheese. So good! And the patties were as thick as McD's use to be. I decided to try something different and chose honey butter dip for my onion rings, that was better than it sounds. Whataburger is trying harder than the rest. They are expanding into other states quickly. Oh and about those two negative reviews, I actually feel safer with armed security guards. And I appreciate the gatekeeper only allowing a certain number of customers in as to enhance a dining experience. read more
