I'm one who goes on long road trips at times. This time, from Phoenix to Texas. When you're on the road, especially at night, and you're looking for a quick meal, you're options are going to be limited. And they're not going to be amazing. When I'm in this exact situation, Whataburger, the iconic Texas institution, is one of my go-to's. I stopped by on a Thursday night. Ambiance (N/A): I used their drive through so not much to talk about here. Service (4.5/5): Pretty much everything you would want from a drive through experience. There wasn't a long line. Ordering went smoothly. Paying went smoothly. The amount of time I waited for my food was reasonable for a fast food experience. Drinks (4/5): I usually go with their sweet tea because I love me some sweet tea. This time around, I went with a limited-time option: their banana pudding shake. Dessert in a glass. It tasted the way you would hope it would taste. A solid shake all in all. Food (3/5): I went with a limited time option here too... their hot honey chicken sandwich. Think their fried Whatachicken with a sweet and spicy sauce. I'm a fan of hot honey, especially on pepperoni pizza. Here, unfortunately, it didn't work that well. Whataburger's honey butter chicken biscuit is money in the back. This sandwich, mediocre. Not bad, but not something I would order again. While the sandwich wasn't great, Whataburger's fries with their homemade ketchup always hit the spot. Especially when you can upgrade your combo from medium to a large for less than a dollar. read more

The showdown is on between Whataburger (WB) and In-and-Out (I&O). I have to give the first round to WB since they have way more locations open 24 hours compared to I&O. This is super important, especially when you're wrapping up your night and need to satisfy those late-night cravings. I had the chance to hit up a WB in El Paso that was open all night, and the staff there were fantastic and super professional. I went for the triple burger, and wow, that was a hefty meal! But I devoured that delicious burger without skipping a beat. So if you're like me and want a spot to cap off your night, swing by your nearest WB for some great food and a chill ambiance, especially after a bars close when the freaks cone out. read more

My first visit here and I found it very disappointing. The whataburger quality was subpar. I like simple burgers with fresh fillings and quality but this one was teeming with semi-fresh, hurriedly choppedveggies that were haphazardly put together on a bun that had an afterthought of mustard slapped on it. What earned the extra star was the grilled sandwich which aint even worth returning for. Disappointed and never revisiting this joint in the future. This place sucks. I tried to order a double with bacon and barbecue sauce and what I got was a single and it came with a second order that my wife ordered and both orders had cold fries. When we called someone named Carlos answered and was not helpful. Did not seem courteous and was kind of dismissive in their voice. I hope this place goes out of business. read more

It's a little crazy doing a review on a fast food chain, but I have nothing but the highest regards for this location. The work they have done to ensure health and safety during covid is amazing. Their staff is helpful, professional, well presented, and all the things you'd hope for but seldom see. The sign on the window says "Family owned and operated since 1950." From what I see, it has to be true as no corporate franchisee would show the care and attention I see here. WELL DONE, and thanks. read more

First impression from a New Yorker who's never had Whataburger. I got a bacon cheese burger with extra cheese. My bf got a patty melt with fries. The burger is massive, but the taste...? It's basically the burger you would receive at your employee bbq. They would slap a cold patty, burnt dry bacon, with a slice of American cheese on top of cold bread and send you on your way. Eat and get back to work. I expected a lot more from this establishment. Considering how many people had suggested it. Now, the patty melt looks and tastes exactly like one would expect . It was delicious. Full of flavor... and most importantly, the cheese was MELTED. The patty was juicy, and the bread was nice and toasty. These two meals were black and white. It seems that the food here is a hit or miss. I'll be at McDonald's if you need me. read more

Whatadisapointment- Upon entering, the place looks like it's full of customers, but it was actually full of employees standing everywhere and just talking to each other. No acknowledgment as I waited a few minutes before anyone offered help. This time they got the order correct, but what the hell kind of buns are you using now? My two burgers had buns that looked like burnt pancakes. I know times are crazy right now and people get overwhelmed but this location doesn't have friendly cashiers. A simple smile and welcome to Whataburger really does go a long way. It sucks going to place where the employees make you feel like you are bothering them by waking in and ordering. I was the only person waiting at the counter and not greeted as several employees walked by. Not even the manager was welcoming when the cashier had an issue with her computer and had me waiting there. I'm willing to wait. I get it can be busy. Just be nicer sheesh. It was an online order so not like they couldn't understand my order. Then the onion rings were burned and ugly. Super disappointed with this order. The last time I was in TX, I didn't get a chance to try this fast food chain. I thought I'll give it a try this time. We went through the double lane drive through. I was a little confused on what to do after ordering as the lanes don't merge. I ended up just walking inside to pick up the order. I ordered their signature Whataburger, which comes with mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and diced onions on a toasted five-inch bun. The width of the burger is something that sets them apart. When the cashier asked me if I wanted ketchup, I was a bit impressed when he came back holding a tray of them. There are two kinds- fancy and spicy. I took one of each. Was surprised at how good this was. Don't compare it to your fancy burger joint, because it's not that. What this is, is a pretty successful chain that's as abundant throughout Texas as any other national fast food chain. I must've come across at least 20 whataburgers on my drive from Austin to El Paso. Glad i stopped here to see what all the hype was about. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, this is on the same plane as McDs, BK and JitB, but with big Texas inspired flavors. I had the Monterey Melt, which was pretty damn good. Again, not gourmet, just yummy guilty-pleasure goodness. Washed it down with sweet tea, which may as well flow out of water fountains, because it's more plentiful than plain water. You're not gonna feel proud after you finish your food, but it will be good going down. read more

I love the damned chicken finger bbq sauce swiss melt sandwich thing. It's delicious. Fries are solid, good crunch but not too much. The guy who thinks their burgers are better than Red Robin has interesting tastes though. This is very fast food, squished buns, toppings quality isn't great, etc. Is it a solid offering in comparison to BK and McD? Sure. Does it compare to what you get at any mid-level chain? Not at all. We also tried the milkshakes. The default size for a milkshake appears to be the size of Rhode Island (or just 32 oz, but it felt huge lol). I thought the milkshakes were a bit too thick, and the vanilla didn't quite push my buttons right, but my friend was a big fan of their chocolate shake. This location is a bit of a dive, and could be a little better maintained. The entrance and exit are a bit unclear if you're coming at it from the wrong angle or leaving in the wrong direction. read more

If you want fast food this is the place for a burger. Much better than McDonald's, Burger king or Jack in the Box. You can customize your order without any problems, you can even get a wheat bun for your hamburger. If you think you're man (or woman) enough, try a triple meat, triple cheese Whataburger. It's a clean place with good food and good service which is not always easy to find in a fast food place. read more
