Fast service and kind but kept asking me what I wanted them to do rather than moving forward with treatment

I went to try the chiropractor for the first time after having some upper back/neck stiffness. I was assigned to Dr Hubka. After seeing him I left feeling worse than I did when I first went in. Since it was my first time, I gave it a week. I could hardly turn my neck. On my second visit a week later I asked why this was the case and the answer was "I don't know". The arrogant and bothered attitude was extremely off putting. When I asked if I should get another adjustment the answer, again, was "Well, I don't know". I would highly recommend finding another Chiropractor if you are a first timer. The bedside manner and pompous attitude are a huge turn off and not something a patient should have to deal with. read more

Dr. Whelan is incredible! She and I texted and found a time for me to come in same day. I tried another Chiropractor clinic but they were booked. They referred me to her. I was so glad they did. She was wonderful. Really a wonderful listener. As a veteran of Chiropractor (13 years) I can say she asks god questions of what I have had done and very open to adjusting her plan to what I have gotten done from others. read more

I have not yet seen either Dr., However, Yumi was AWESOME! I went in living with pain in my neck and shoulder area, going down my arm and into my hand. Suffered with it for 2 weeks. Left Yumi's room in no pain. She really listens to what hurts and focuses accordingly. read more

I came to the office because of referrals of the east county classified Facebook group. I have severe tmj pains & apparently this was the place to go. I went in for an appointment yesterday & whoever was at the front desk didn't greet me nicely. "Are you Leah? Do you have your insurance card?" Okay, hi to you too. I told her I have insurance but I don't have my card yet. It started July 1. "It may take 30 days to go into effect." That makes zero sense, but whatever. I told her I had anthem. I sat down to fill out my paperwork & she comes out, without making any phone calls so I don't know how she came to this conclusion, "You have an hmo. We are out of network. It won't be covered." Okay, pretty sure I have a ppo but that's fine. I asked can I just pay out of pocket. She said I have to pay up front for everything. Hmmm. That's not what your website says. I am in severe pain & left without being seen & without being helped at all. Also, I just called my insurance company & got my ID number & I do in fact, have a PPO. So I am very confused by her. read more

Having just moved here from the NW, leaving a chiropractor I had seen for years, I had to choose a new one from Yelp reviews. Luckily for me I picked Dr Wayne Whalen. After one visit Dr Whalen pointed me in what I believe will be the right direction FOR ME PERSONALLY. The xrays I thought were necessary were obtained at a fraction of the cost of other practitioners because Dr Whalen doesn't use xrays as a profit center. I fancy myself a chiropractic connoisseur since I have had the privilege of previously working with two great chiropractors for the last 7 years at two different clinics. Just when I thought all great things come to an end as I moved from central San Diego to Santee, I found Whalen Chiropractic. I was about 5 months pregnant (with twins) at the time when I first called. The front desk staff that took the call were so helpful and assisted me in getting set up to come in. I've been seeing Dr. Nicole O'Dell, and she is awesome. She was able to adjust me during my pregnancy, and I firmly believe that helped with my quick recovery post-delivery. She also keeps me feeling great sans preggo belly. Dr. O'Dell is a skilled chiropractic as she listens carefully to my concerns and aches/pains and adjusts accordingly. She is also very friendly and kind. The front desk staff is also awesome. A couple times, I called day-of and was accommodated and added to the schedule. I also had to make some appointment changes over the last few months, and they have been helpful in rescheduling me. Another element I appreciate is the text reminders of my appointments! I've been going to this office for a few years now. I was extremely skeptical of chiropractic care because I had never been to one before. I looked around quite a bit and saw the positive experiences everyone had here and decided to come in. I used to have my upper back lock up on my quite a bit. After some adjustments and care my back hasn't locked up on me in years. I also deal with quite a bit of neck pain and Whalen has done wonders for me. COVID affects us all differently. My sedentary lifestyle left my core weak and limited my mobility. The first visit included a complete evaluation, a pain free adjustment and exercises I could do at home. After a couple of weeks I could turn my neck, get out of the car by myself and stand up without assistance. Then I got over zealous, stood up too fast and fell. Dr. Whalen just said, "2 steps forward - 1 step back." We began again. I can't get them higher then 3 stars. I've been seeing Dr. Polk for over a year. He's been great. He listens and checks out any concerns I have. If I only had to deal with him and Cheri (I might be spelling her name wrong), I probably would have given them 4 or 5 stars. Now for the reason I can't give 4 or 5 stars. First I have no experience with the other chiropractor there Dr. Whalen, he seems nice enough. My issue is with Beverly and the other younger receptionist/staff there. They have forgotten what customer service is. When they assist me I am either being partly ignored where I have to repeat myself or I'm being talked to rudely or snotty. Most of the rudeness comes from Beverly. It doesn't matter if I am in the office or it is on the phone. Her communication skills are poor and her attitude makes me question if I want to go back. When I first started going, I just took it as that's how she was, but it has gotten worse. Today's example: She doesn't say a word to me, just takes my credit card and runs it. Doesn't even tell me the amount. The amount was more then I was use to paying. I asked about it and was told "Um we raised prices." She mentions that it went up $3.00 and includes, "We had signs posted like everywhere." Well I only go once a month now so I mentioned that I never saw the signs, I also mentioned that my increase was more then $3.00. She had no reply for me and just ignored me. She didn't even offer to book my next appointment regardless that Dr. Polk mentioned when he wanted to see me again. So I actually had to say "Do I need to call to make my next appointment?" That was when Cheri came over and assisted me. I'd like to edit (09/29/2012) that I have received an apology from Beverly after this review has been posted. I am really glad I came to Dr Whalen. His treatment has been very important to my recovery from whiplash and knee pain. From the very first time I came to him I knew I was in good hands because he had a lot of patience in explaining things to me. I was experiencing confusion which I later learned was also due to the whiplash. When I first called his office, I told the girl that answered that I had been in a car accident and really wanted to see someone right away. It was a Friday and I had been in an accident two days prior. She told me that Dr. Whalen was out of the office for the day but that she would call him to see if he could come back. Dr. Whalen came back to the office to see me. I was very glad that him and his office staff were very considerate of my desire to see someone immediately. I saw Dr Whalen for chronic TMJ headaches and pain that had been getting worse over the years. I was quoted over $6k for braces to align my teeth to maybe see better results in a year+. After the first visit I had immediate relief and by the third visit I haven't had a headache since. I am on a 6 treatment plan to start and never thought I would be able to live my life without taking OTC medicine almost every day! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Whalen for nearly 20 years through four pregnancies and as needed for occasional migraines and neck and back pain. All of my children have been to see him on occasion for a variety of reasons and he has made a huge impact on our physical health. I have been seeing Dr. Polk for almost 2 months now. He is amazing, I have noticed a considerable amount of relief from my pain. I sleep much better and am well rested when I wake. I've only stopped seeing Dr. Whalen because I moved up to L.A. While in his care I enjoyed his careful attention and concern, he never dismissed anything I said and tried everything he could to cure what ailed me. Sometimes it took a long time and trial to figure it out, but I never doubted he was doing all he can and I always improved! I don't give 5 stars only because even though the reception staff were very good with me, when my Mom and Aunt attempted to be seen by Dr. Whalen they were not treated kindly or courteously. Dr. Whalen is very professional but also kind which is comforting as someone who is new to receiving chiropractic help. He is really good at explaining what he believes is causing your pain, and then what he is going to do to fix it. I also appreciated that even though he had originally scheduled me for more appointments, he seemed to fix the problem earlier and did not insist I continue coming unless the problem arose again. Dr. Whalen is one of the best doctors I have ever been to. He is obviously an expert and knows how the neck and spine affect the rest of the body, and can explain it all to me so that I understand it. I have gone to other doctors for my neck and back injury, and Dr. Whalen is the first one to actually make progress. I have the added stress of this being a workers' comp claim, and Dr. Whalen and his staff have made the process so much easier for me. He and his staff actually care about me and my health, and I always feel like they are personally vested in seeing me to recovery. I live about 15-20 minutes away from his office, but it is definitely worth it. And he gets you in and out of the office quickly, which is really important to me since I'm still trying to work while recovering from this injury. I will not go to another chiropractor again!
