Dr McDowell is the gentle , gifted chiropractor I've been looking for since our family Chiropractor move to the East Coast . I am 72 , and after a bad fall injuring my back , the ER doctor told me to go home and use heat and ice and pain medicine and I would be better in 24 to 48 hours . After 5 days of excruciating pain , I went to doctor McDowell and after the first treatment was able to take small steps without pain . I have continued to go and improve . Fantastic experience. I've been seeing chiropractors for years. I'm in town visiting family and hadn't had an opportunity to get an adjustment in 4 months. I have neck, spine, and hip issues. After two visits completely healed my Lower back pain that was chronic from a lumbar wedge fracture 2 years ago, my doctors said lose weight and exercise theres nothing wrong but on my first visit the chiropractor did an xray and found a pinched nerve. Not only am I not taking ibuprofen daily anymore getting my spine aligned correctly has helped with my sleep apnea and hypertension. I was in town for a week but tweaked my back right before traveling. I was urgently looking for some help and I found McDowell Family Chiropractic here on Yelp. I called them and they graciously got me in their practice right away. They were thorough with their intake to assess my medical history and any issue I was dealing with. After an initial evaluation, they set me up on their massage table machine to soothe the area and prepare it for an adjustment. It felt wonderful, gave some relief and loosened up the muscles that were compensating for the pain/discomfort I had been feeling. Dr. McDowell has a very comfortable table for treatment that lowers you down gently so you don't have to climb onto it when you're in pain. He did a gentle but effective adjustment. They notified me that you can sometimes feel soreness in the area while the spine is adapting to the adjustment, and I felt a lot of relief and then a little bit of soreness, but it was so much better by the next day and I was able to function and have a great rest of my trip. I am very grateful for their services and if I lived in town, I would definitely want to get their monthly maintenance packages. read more

Dr. Gary McDowell has been my chiropractor since I was 20 and I have yet to find another chiropractor who is as thorough and conscientious. He listens attentively, takes a thorough medical history, discusses options and provides a comprehensive treatment plan. I took my 4 month old son into Dr. Gary this week for the first time. He came recommended to us by close friends who have taken their children to him for years. We have never done chiropractic care for either of our boys before, so it's understandable why I was a bit nervous. Only thing that I regret was waiting until my son was 4 months. AMAZING experience! Dr. Gary is amazing with kids and newborns. He talked with me (and my 4 month old) every step of the way, explaining what he was doing and WHY. To say Dr. McDowell is a miracle worker is not an exaggeration. Just last week I walked, okay crawled into his office; my back was completely out and I was crooked. I've had back problems for years and it periodically goes out ... especially now that I am constantly lifting my one year old son. After l left Santa Rosa, I thought I would never find another chiropractor I could have as much confidence in as the one I had up there. However, when my hip didn't stop hurting after a number of weeks and I was pretty sure my HMO would be as useless as usual, I gave Dr. Gary's office a call. So glad I did. He's extremely thorough, explaining clearly, listening intently, and is very kind. I felt SO much better after my very first adjustment. This is my first review on Yelp, felt I had to give credit were credit is due. After a bad adjustment south of the border in March my pain has been non stop. After a few consultations at various locations I felt Gary would be the one who could help. Extremely attentive and showed interest in helping me and not himself monetarily, after my first visit he found what my problem is and reduced my pain considerably. My son was in tremendous back pain and we had to find a chiropractor that was open and could take us at 4:30 and he kept his office open for us. He normally closed at 4pm but they were willing to not only squeeze us in but stay late for us. That says a lot. After having a bad experience, my husband and I had both been skeptical about seeing a chiropractor. Dr. Gary was highly recommended by multiple family and friends. We are extremely glad we went to see him. Both of us have had remarkable results. I have suffered with neck/back pain from arthritis and hip pain. All of which is almost resolved. My husband has had multiple injuries over the years and has severe pain & muscle spasms in his back. He also has a problem, in which his feet are always cold and the soles of his feet are numb. They have been this way for years now and his doctors told him that he had poor circulation from his heart condition and there was nothing they could do about it. I don't usually write glowing reviews, but in this case it is merited. I found McDowell Chiropractic based on Yelp reviews and was desperate for relief from pain when I called. I waited until the need was urgent because I had some anxiety about going to a "bone cracker" (this is the negative term my medical doctor uses for chiropractors) because I have had two prior back surgeries and anytime anyone tries to twist my back I anticipate pain. Here is what happened when I called. First, the receptionist, Cindy, was extremely kind and accommodating and said to come in even though there were no last minute appointments available. Second, the chiropractor, Dr. Gary, told me when I got there not to worry even though they had a roomful of patients he would find time for me. Third, the office was clean and professional. And fourth, and most importantly, I went in the office unable to stand up straight and left walking upright.
