Yesterday I took my son in for a stiff neck. My son is 3 months old and has been leaning to his right side causing some concerns. First impressions of the buisness is welcoming and comfortsble. We are greeted and sent to a room for the adjustment. Dr. Gary evaluates my son and proceeds to strech and correct the neck issue. Just after a few min there was a big change in movement. After comming home my son freely was turning his head both ways and slept with his head centered. Great experience, great people. read more

I've had such a wonderful experience with McDowell Family Chiropractic! After a rear-end car accident left me with constant pain in my head/neck/shoulders, Dr. Gary was instrumental in my full recovery. He took great care in listening and assessing my situation so that he could create a treatment plan that I felt comfortable with. He took x-rays, explained his process to me thoroughly, and was even very clear upfront about confirming that my visits would be covered by the amount I had available through insurance -- no surprises or extra costs along the way. I experienced almost immediate pain relief, and after just a few months have regained full strength and mobility. I can't thank him enough!!! As someone who was new to chiropractic care, I would recommend Dr. Gary to anyone who is hesitant or unfamiliar with it. Cindy and Kay who work in the office are so sweet and really take care of everyone who comes in! They made scheduling & billing so easy for me, set up text/email reminders, and just made me feel welcome & comfortable every visit. Now that my injury is behind me I'm looking forward to some wellness visits with Dr. Gary in the future to keep me feeling strong and pain-free! Thanks again, McDowell Family Chiropractic!! :) read more

Dr. Gary was incredibly gentle with our little one, ensuring that every examination was done with utmost care. He took the time to educate us on our little one, answering all our questions patiently and thoroughly. His calm demeanor and expertise made the experience reassuring. I highly recommend Dr. Gary for anyone seeking exceptional pediatric chiropractic care! Also, the kind lady at the front desk was so helpful in getting us in as quickly as we wanted! Will be coming back in the future!!! read more

Dr McDowell is the gentle , gifted chiropractor I've been looking for since our family Chiropractor move to the East Coast . I am 72 , and after a bad fall injuring my back , the ER doctor told me to go home and use heat and ice and pain medicine and I would be better in 24 to 48 hours . After 5 days of excruciating pain , I went to doctor McDowell and after the first treatment was able to take small steps without pain . I have continued to go and improve . I would highly recommend him to anyone , young or old . read more

Fantastic experience. I've been seeing chiropractors for years. I'm in town visiting family and hadn't had an opportunity to get an adjustment in 4 months. I have neck, spine, and hip issues. I'm also 12 weeks pregnant. I was in so much pain but not from this area. My mother in law's friend suggested this place. She got me in the next day! They were so kind and professional. I appreciated how he was personable and took the time to understand what was going on with me. He talked me through every adjustment he was about to do and ensured I was ready for it. Did I mention I was the last client of the day? It felt like I was the 1st person! I'm definitely coming back before the end of this trip. I have so much relief, I am so thankful she referred me here. I truly feel you will not be disappointed. read more

He is a good Dr. I wish he was close by. I found him to be the best chiropractor I have had

The best. After two visits completely healed my Lower back pain that was chronic from a lumbar wedge fracture 2 years ago, my doctors said lose weight and exercise theres nothing wrong but on my first visit the chiropractor did an xray and found a pinched nerve. Not only am I not taking ibuprofen daily anymore getting my spine aligned correctly has helped with my sleep apnea and hypertension. Also I was astounded at how affordable it was I go 4 times a month and it isn't even close to what I pay for cable. Also staff is super friendly and it's a very clean environment. read more

I was in town for a week but tweaked my back right before traveling. I was urgently looking for some help and I found McDowell Family Chiropractic here on Yelp. I called them and they graciously got me in their practice right away. They were thorough with their intake to assess my medical history and any issue I was dealing with. After an initial evaluation, they set me up on their massage table machine to soothe the area and prepare it for an adjustment. It felt wonderful, gave some relief and loosened up the muscles that were compensating for the pain/discomfort I had been feeling. Dr. McDowell has a very comfortable table for treatment that lowers you down gently so you don't have to climb onto it when you're in pain. He did a gentle but effective adjustment. They notified me that you can sometimes feel soreness in the area while the spine is adapting to the adjustment, and I felt a lot of relief and then a little bit of soreness, but it was so much better by the next day and I was able to function and have a great rest of my trip. I am very grateful for their services and if I lived in town, I would definitely want to get their monthly maintenance packages. read more

I have been going to Dr McDowell since 1997 and I absolutely love him.... Every time I go I am in Instant relief of that pain...of course the pain to recovery is easy read more

Dr. Gary McDowell has been my chiropractor since I was 20 and I have yet to find another chiropractor who is as thorough and conscientious. He listens attentively, takes a thorough medical history, discusses options and provides a comprehensive treatment plan. Once, after throwing out my back, I went to my MD who prescribed rest, anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant medications. After a week of not being able to walk, sleep or sit up, I went to see Dr. Gary. I left walking. Without reservation, I would recommend Dr. Gary to anyone and everyone. His practice recently moved to a new renovated location in La Mesa. read more

Dr. McDowell (or Dr. Gary as he likes to be called) is a wonderful chiropractor. Many chiropractors do their job and go through the motions, but for Dr. Gary it's obviously more than just a career, it's a passion. He also does a fabulous job of explaining what you should expect from the treatments and happily and clearly answers questions. McDowell Family Chiropractic is a happy place and I highly recommend it. read more

BEST CHIROPRACTOR IN SAN DIEGO!! I slipped a disk and pinched a nerve all at once and couldn't even stand up. I called in and the super nice and caring office mgr Bev, was quick to get me in. Dr Gary had me standing straight and walking in just 2 visits!! My dad has never believed in chiropractors. But after seeing how much pain I was in, and how fast Dr Gary had me up and moving around again, he is a believer now! Thank you Dr Gary!! read more

I took my 4 month old son into Dr. Gary this week for the first time. He came recommended to us by close friends who have taken their children to him for years. We have never done chiropractic care for either of our boys before, so it's understandable why I was a bit nervous. Only thing that I regret was waiting until my son was 4 months. AMAZING experience! Dr. Gary is amazing with kids and newborns. He talked with me (and my 4 month old) every step of the way, explaining what he was doing and WHY. Honestly, if anyone is reading this wondering about taking in their baby - I HIGHLY recommend you do. My son has been going to physical therapy for over a month now for his head-tilt/side-preference. Just one visit with Dr. Gary and I've seen more improvement compared to an entire month in PT. read more

To say Dr. McDowell is a miracle worker is not an exaggeration. Just last week I walked, okay crawled into his office; my back was completely out and I was crooked. I've had back problems for years and it periodically goes out ... especially now that I am constantly lifting my one year old son. I had commiserated with a friend from spin class about my on-going back problems and she recommended Dr. McDowell. When it went out last week, I contacted Dr. McDowell's office. They got me in that day to see the doctor. He did a thorough evaluation including x-rays and came up with a plan of action. He did an adjustment at the first appointment and I immediately felt better; I was no longer crooked. I've now seen him three times and I feel like a new woman. My pain is completely gone and I feel so good I'm already back at the gym. Thanks, Dr. Gary! Highly recommend! read more

Dr. Gary has been my chiropractor for over 20 years. I have had severe migraines for many years and going to see him for an adjustment many times was the only thing that would give me relief. He knows exactly what I need when I go to help whatever ache or pain I am experiencing. I would recommend him to anyone!!! It is obviously by his great office staff and other patients that he is truly the best at what he does. Thanks Gary for all you have done :) read more

I've been seeing Dr Gary for over a year and a half. He's helped with various aches and pains and maladies like plantar fasciitis. At my age and situation I need all the help I can get - and he provides it for a great price. [And NEVER pass up the mechanized massage table before your appt - it's free!] read more

After l left Santa Rosa, I thought I would never find another chiropractor I could have as much confidence in as the one I had up there. However, when my hip didn't stop hurting after a number of weeks and I was pretty sure my HMO would be as useless as usual, I gave Dr. Gary's office a call. So glad I did. He's extremely thorough, explaining clearly, listening intently, and is very kind. I felt SO much better after my very first adjustment. His assistant, Beverly, is also extremely personable and clearly loves her job. I was able to get in on the same day I called. Nice central location on University near Spring Street, with plenty of non-metered parking in the back. If you're in pain, Dr. Gary can help. I wish I could see him for more routine care, but he will definitely be my chiropractor in shining armor when I need rescuing! I recommend you call him soon. read more

This is my first review on Yelp, felt I had to give credit were credit is due. After a bad adjustment south of the border in March my pain has been non stop. After a few consultations at various locations I felt Gary would be the one who could help. Extremely attentive and showed interest in helping me and not himself monetarily, after my first visit he found what my problem is and reduced my pain considerably. I highly recommend at least a consultation with Gary he knows his stuff and more importantly you can tell he enjoys helping others. read more

We came into the McDowell Family Chiropractic today on of a yelp review and we very happy when we left. My son was in tremendous back pain and we had to find a chiropractor that was open and could take us at 4:30 and he kept his office open for us. He normally closed at 4pm but they were willing to not only squeeze us in but stay late for us. That says a lot. They were very friendly, the staff was nice, office was clean and professional and I liked that they like the holistic approach to health as well. I would highly recommend him and he just earned a new patient and my family will be transferring over. I am very excited we found a great chiropractor that is so close to our house and work. Thank you Dr. McDowell. read more

After having a bad experience, my husband and I had both been skeptical about seeing a chiropractor. Dr. Gary was highly recommended by multiple family and friends. We are extremely glad we went to see him. Both of us have had remarkable results. I have suffered with neck/back pain from arthritis and hip pain. All of which is almost resolved. My husband has had multiple injuries over the years and has severe pain & muscle spasms in his back. He also has a problem, in which his feet are always cold and the soles of his feet are numb. They have been this way for years now and his doctors told him that he had poor circulation from his heart condition and there was nothing they could do about it. After "2" visits with Dr Gary his back pain is almost gone and amazingly, he is actually starting to get some feeling back in the soles of his feet. It's unbelievable. My husband called him "The Back Whisperer". We Highly recommend him. He is passionate about what he does. Office staff are all very nice. His prices are reasonable. He runs a very nice, family oriented practice. Cynthia S. read more

I found Dr. Gary and his wonderful staff through Yelp. Having reoccurring headaches and numbness in my hands for several days they squeezed me in as a new patient within an hour and a half of calling. Bev and Andrea are both very welcoming when you walk in and help you get through all the paperwork and new patient steps with no difficulty. Dr Gary is a very affable person who takes his time to understand your issue and make sure you understand the necessary treatment and options. I have been to many chiropractors over the years and whether you are looking for a quick fix, pain management or long term wellness, you would not go astray looking into Dr. Gary and his wonderful office! read more

Dr. Gary and staff are simply the best! Attentive, accommodating and professional. I cannot praise him highly enough. Arrived at Dr. Gary's this afternoon with a level 5 migraine and left with zero headache pain! I never knew you could see a chiropractor for migraine relief until a friend recommended (actually she insisted) that I see Dr. Gary. I was struggling with chronic headaches for years. Advil, massage, sleep, diet, exercise all provided some sort of temporary relief at times, but nothing permanent. After my first visit with Dr. Gary and seeing an X-ray of how mis -aligned I was, it was clear more needed to be done. He gave me a plan of treatment to follow. Was very affordable and accommodating with my schedule. I'm happy to say my headaches are gone! After years of "dealing" with them, I now know what it's like to be like a normal person!! read more

I've been going to Dr. Gary for chiropractic care since his office was in Rancho San Diego. I always leave feeling much better than when I walked in. I couldn't continue my work unless I was getting such great care from Dr. Gary and his staff. I highly recommend his services. read more

I've been to several chiropractors over the years and Dr. Gary is one of the best. Many can be weird quacks, but he's a regular guy who is passionate about his practice and his patients. His staff is efficient and responsive and can usually get me in around my schedule or last minute. Dr. Gary can identify what's bothering me before I say a word, just by looking at the way I'm standing or walking. He's friendly but no nonsense and focused on getting you well. No worries about him trying to sell you return visits or anything you don't need (like other chiros). He's honest and excellent and committed to helping you feel better. read more

I don't usually write glowing reviews, but in this case it is merited. I found McDowell Chiropractic based on Yelp reviews and was desperate for relief from pain when I called. I waited until the need was urgent because I had some anxiety about going to a "bone cracker" (this is the negative term my medical doctor uses for chiropractors) because I have had two prior back surgeries and anytime anyone tries to twist my back I anticipate pain. Here is what happened when I called. First, the receptionist, Cindy, was extremely kind and accommodating and said to come in even though there were no last minute appointments available. Second, the chiropractor, Dr. Gary, told me when I got there not to worry even though they had a roomful of patients he would find time for me. Third, the office was clean and professional. And fourth, and most importantly, I went in the office unable to stand up straight and left walking upright. I have had four appointments in the last two weeks and have already referred two other people. read more
