I have been going to WG Tailor for 5 years now, following them to this location not far from their previous on Maple. They are my go-to for all tailoring, including of high-end garments requiring a more custom fit, and I consistently refer friends and colleagues who are looking for a good tailor. The reasons being: High quality work, very fair (in my opinion; $20 for pant hem [August 2022]) price points, and great customer service! In my experience, turnaround is less than 2-weeks. Their new location is tucked behind a car detail, so you might miss it. Be sure to drive slowly and use your navigation. They are open only on weekdays, so make time in your schedule. Five stars. I have a 40 year old Alpaca sweater that required significant repair due to wear. Other local tailors took one look at it and were unwilling to work on it. Very disappointed in my experience with WG Tailor. When I brought my bridesmaid dress home & tried it on, I noticed all the beads and sequins falling off. In an effort to save the dress for the wedding/wedding photos, I put clear nail polish on the ends of the beads & loose thread. It was clear to me the seamstress had simply just cut my dress ($260 dress I might add) with scissors. When I called the next day (morning before the wedding) I explained what had happened to the beadwork and the extremely nice younger women I spoke with agreed to have me bring my dress back once I was home and she would take a look at it. Well, I brought my dress back in, and after speaking to the younger women, we agreed to a full refund. As soon as she went into the back to grab cash, her mom (I'm guessing the owner) came running out screaming "What are you trying to pull on me! You're not getting a refund!" I was shocked by the lack of professionalism from a business owner. We discussed what had happened and how they didn't tie off the thread/beads tight enough & I showed her the pictures. She refused to give a full refund (after her daughter offered me one) and said she would "fix" my bridesmaid dress instead. After explaining that it was a bridesmaid dress and the wedding had already happened, fixing the dress wouldn't do me any good. I walked out with less than half my money back and a horrific experience. I'm still in shock how unprofessional this women runs her business. I asked the older women why she thinks screaming at her customers is the way to run a business and she said her daughter hadn't filled in on what had happened. No excuse to yell at your customers, not my fault you didn't know the full story of how I had called before I wore the dress in the wedding. This is the first time I've been there and the last! Sofia's Tailoring will continue to get my business, they happened to be on a two week vacation, hence why I had to use WG. read more

I am so glad I found WG Tailor! Because of them, my wedding would not have been the same and I am so very thankful for that. Months ago, I bought a wedding dress because my (now)wife wanted me to wear one. I personally did not want to so after months of discussion, she gave me the OKAY to wear a suit. I brought my blazer to WG Tailor and the topic of me having a wedding dress came up. They offered to voice their opinion on how the dress looked on me. A few days later, I went to pick up my blazer but also brought my dress. After putting it on, it actually didn't look as bad as I thought! It definitely needed some alterations though. We discussed the possibility of surprising my wife by wearing a dress for the ceremony. There was less than a week left and if you had a wedding dress alteration done, you know it takes weeks to complete. The owner was amazing enough to come in on a holiday just to work on my dress. The dress fit perfectly, thank goodness! My wife was so surprised and happy when she saw me. The look on her face was priceless and I thank WG Tailors for making it all happen. Every time a customer left the room, they complained about them to their other customers and to each other. There are cutesy little signs all over the place saying things like "complaining will cost you $10 extra" and such- I really got the feeling that they don't like working with people. I wonder what they said about me after I left. Also, they didn't have things ready for several different customers who came in while I was waiting there. They seem to be stretching themselves too thin by taking last-minute appointments when they have other deadlines to work with. The quality of their knowledge and work seemed good. W-G tailors are efficient, helpful and reasonably priced. I've taken various items to be altered and have been really pleased with their work-- and I thought these were trickier alterations too (taking in the waist on a flowy sundress, shortening a top on a tankini bathing suit, hemming jeans with zippers up the ankle, etc). The owners are really friendly and have great suggestions. Not to mention, they aren't too expensive. I had to wait several days for a simple hem and when I returned to pick up the pants the girl behind the counter admitted she had forgotten about my order and asked me to wait "a few minutes" so that she could complete the work -- no apologies, no discount. I was so put off by the experience that I never returned. I now make the drive to Livonia regularly to a shop there that offers more affordable, friendly, and dependable service (I'm only 5'0 so I have to alter nearly every pair of pants I purchase). read more

I've been going to them for years for help. One time I ordered a Lands End bathing suit, and the "skirt short" really looked like a skirt! Extremely polite and welcoming, told me the exact cost right when I brought in my dress (needed three layers hemmed). They were running a little behind on the pick up date (seriously only 45 minutes) and were nice enough to give me a discount for being late and gave me nice suggestions for dress upkeep. I must've spent around $150 here in the past month and I'm becoming less and less impressed with each item I get back from them. 1) The first item I brought to them was a Calvin Klein business jacket and just had it taken in. It turned out very nice. 2) Second item was a cheaper business jacket but it was a complicated, trendy cut to begin with. They didn't pin everything while I was wearing it but they had my trust because the first jacket turned out well. They just estimated how much and what areas needed to be altered and it ended up looking like a fashion school project. I brought it back to get fixed and it looks exactly the same. Salvation Army give away.. $70 down the drain. 3) My third time in there, I brought two dresses that, to me, appear to be simple silhouettes. One is a Laundry by Design work dress and the other is Theory shirt dress, again, for work. These just had to be taken in at the waist.. They pinned these two up while I was wearing them. When I picked them up, I didn't have time to try them on there (their lighting is terrible there anyway) but upon trying them on at home, the Laundry by Designs appears not be altered at all and the shirt dress is F'd up. There are about 3 inches in the back of each dress that still needs to be taken in because they way they are now, it looks like my butt was supposed to start 7 inches above where it actually is. The shirt dress is far too tight at the bust (I am not big busted and my weight does not fluctuate) so that I can hardly button it up all the way. Once buttoned, it looks like it's going to burst open at any moment but the waist is still baggy.. If i belt it, it looks better but still sloppy. I don't make much money so when i invest in pieces and get them tailored, I do expect them to turn out properly the first time. I will be back every Saturday with each item until they get it right. And any future items that I may choose to risk bringing in, I will have to ask them to pin everything exactly before I give it to them to do the alterations. I'm no longer paying for items they mess up. I'll have to start shopping around for alternative services for further comparison. read more

I want to preface that they have done a great job on the tailoring but their customer service is something to be desired. I went in to have 3 pairs of jeans tailored and was told they would be ready in 7 days. A little longer than I wanted but I could deal with that. I come back the afternoon of 7 days later and they were not done. I was told they needed an hour. I was not happy and relayed this to the tailor. When I came back I wasn't so much as issued an apology- just told they had a family emergency that came up that week. I understand that things happen. But I give you my phone number for a reason. How about a phone call so I don't have to drive in Ann Arbor traffic if they're not done? How about a discount if you have to delay my alterations? Also, an apology would have been appropriate. This is a great place to have clothes altered. It doesn't look like much but the two women who run it are very friendly, fast, and competent. Most importantly, they are very inexpensive. Especially compared to Sophia's, a tailor who is egregiously over-priced, and whose customer service is lacking, to say the least. They have done a pretty good job on everything I've given them, (I even had them make me sheets once), however I wouldn't necessarily give them a wedding dress, or anything that requires very intricate tailoring. read more

I had a dress tailored and the results were fine, but the customer service could use some improvement. Short version: it wasn't ready when she said it would be, but she didn't call to let me know, so I had to make two trips...and all I got was excuses, not an apology. Longer version: While I was getting fitted for the alterations, another customer walked in to pick up her items at the scheduled time, and the lady who owns the place said, "It's not ready, I've been so busy up front [taking orders] and I didn't have your phone number to let you know." So when I left my order, I made doubly sure she had my phone number. Well, go figure: I arrive at the specified day and time a week later, and get the exact same excuse: "I've been so busy up front!" Well then why didn't you call?! You knew it wasn't ready on the day you said it would be, and you had my phone number. I don't want excuses, just a little awareness that having your customers drive across town needlessly is not a good recipe for repeat customers. Again, the results were fine, but other tailors do a fine job too and are probably more organized and respectful, so I'll be going elsewhere next time. read more
