The owner was EXTREMELY passive aggressive and moody about getting minimal alterations done and scoffed at me acting as if I was making her do the alterations 2 weeks before my wedding (I know it's quick) when I called beforehand with all of the details to see if she was available and she said yes come in I can. When I picked up my dress the alterations were not worth that at all; I paid $600 in all. The bustle was done poorly, all she did was add three plastic buttons you would use on a flannel shirt and add three loops of thread on the back of the dress that were not sewn under my dress but tied so the loops got lost very easily. The major part of my dress that I was worried about was the shoulders. When I left the dress with her with the pins it felt great however upon pick up it was too tight and nothing like when it was pinned when I left the dress with her. I did not feel comfortable telling her this as she was already not happy and I just left. I ended up taking my dress to ANOTHER place and they fixed it SAME DAY for only $75 and it was done phenomenally. read more

Had my daughter's prom dressed altered there a few weeks ago. We spent considerable time with seamstress fitting and modeling the dress. To be fair daughter & dress required several inches of hem and several inches in waist and midsection altered. My Daughter is a tiny 120 lb 5' 2" young lady. The dress is likely designed for someone considerably taller. I had daughter bring her shoes as required. After initial fitting, we left to wait 1.5 weeks till dress was ready. Meanwhile, we'd left shoes behind and didn't realize it. After looking for days for the shoes, we finally gave up (not remembering they'd been left at the store). When we arrived at the store daughter tried on I observed we felt the fit was ok but not great. Bust was a little loose but we were out of time (& money) for more alterations. PLUS, the shoes were there! We wondered why they had not called to tell us the shoes were there. Also the alteration for several inches off layers of fabric) hem & cinch at the waist was $200!! Uh... the dress essentially doubled in price. Not coming here again. Too much for quality and service we received. read more

I showed up one afternoon with a zipper that had been very poorly repaired by a competitor. Unfortunately, I had trusted the competitor, so I now had no time. I explained my dilemma to the owner (Lucia), and she went straight to work. In about 90 minutes, she had repaired the garment so well that it was like new. It has performed flawlessly since her repairs. While I will strive to never again present her with such an unreasonable request (near immediate service), I will certainly never go anywhere else for alterations. I had a pretty difficult repair on a delicate, expensive coat. The cost was $40, which was reasonable for the repair needed. At no cost, without asking, they went ahead and repaired several other small holes. They were so nice! Will definitely come here again, just be sure to avoid rush hour, Washtenaw gets insanely backed up. read more

The owner truly takes pride in her work and does as much as she can to make your garments perfect for that special day or event. Got a bridesmaid dress altered-a simple hemming for length. It was done well but it took over two weeks. And it cost $80, I wish I had planned it earlier so that this wasn't my only option! I have moved from the area, so sadly, I won't be able to get my alterations here anymore. Quality Alterations was the *only* place I would take my alterations while living in Ann Arbor. Over the course of 2 years, they've replaced zippers, tailored suit jackets and pants, replaced elastics, and sewed a new skirt using an old favorite as a pattern. My final service there was a favorite old t-shirt that had developed a hole in the fabric of the sleeve. The hole was not on the seam, and the fabric was very thin and delicate from a decade of wash and wear. When I picked up the shirt, the stitching was nearly *invisible.* I literally could not find it until I turned the shirt inside out and then it was still difficult to find. For all the items I had altered here, I respect the fact that their standards are so high that if they know that an item would not be able to be altered satisfactorily, they will tell you so. Exceptional work. High standards. Timely turn around (though they are VERY busy, so don't wait until the last minute if you have an event). read more

I don't know much about tailoring, but I know what a suit should look like. I spent over $100 just getting a jacket tailored and pants hemmed. The jacket pulls in the middle when buttoned, despite repeated trips back up there to get it fixed. The back of the collar has a lump from the not so perfect seam. When asked why putting the buttons on the sleeves cost $20, the Russian woman said that it was because they take time to get it perfect. They were crooked and some were too close together, so they push together, causing some to bump out (not lie flat). It was a battle I decided not to pick. The quality of the work, which was indeed poor, is not the only problem. It was clear that a Chinese woman did the work for me, not the Russian woman that everyone seems to be talking about. That's fine. But, I expect it to be done right, especially after multiple trips. My real issue is that the Russian woman acts like its fine when it clearly is not. I would have no problem if she said "Oh, I can see what you're saying. No problem, we can fix that." Instead, she just sort of acts like "Whatever. Tell me what should be different and we'll half-ass it again." I came here based on the stellar reviews. I really don't know what everyone else is talking about. This was terrible, and not cheap at all. I think my suit is ruined. I'm sure a quality tailor could fix it, but again, I don't want to spend another $100 on a $500 suit. And, I certainly don't want to bring it back here for another three rounds of wasting my time and money. I would avoid this place. EDIT: Had Lucia introduced herself at any point in our interactions, I would not have had to refer to her as the "Russian woman." I did not intend that to be spiteful. I was never given a hand to shake or a name. The sleeves of my jacket were not shortened. Is $100 still a modest price? It was over $120 actually. And, the work was poor. In addition, when I attempted to get things fixed, I was never given any indication that Lucia or her employees actually took accountability for the mistakes. After a few trips up to Quality Alterations without getting things right (and not getting any indication that they were taking me seriously), why would I spend more time (and potentially more money) coming back to try to get the suit right? I still have that suit. I still wish it fit right. I still wear it when I need to, but I never go out of my way to wear it. When I do wear it, I can't button it because looks terrible buttoned. The buttons on the sleeves are still, unfortunately, crooked. I'm not convinced, however, that the solution is to bring it back to Quality Alterations for another round. read more

Went in to get 2 suit jackets taken in, got them back a week later and they fit perfectly. I thought the price was reasonable, and I got some Romanian language lessons tossed in for free. The owner of the alteration shop might be the sweetest person I've met in Ann Arbor. What is probably the best thing this place has going for it is that there is a Chipotle about 50 yards away, so you can drop off/pick up your stuff AND get a burrito in one trip. Nobody in the area does re-weaving including her, but she went above and beyond and helped connect me to a tailor in another state who would repair my damaged suit pants. She arranged for shipping, charged a very reasonable price, and the whole process was completed in just a couple of weeks. I chose Quality Alterations for my wedding gown alterations because of the positive yelp reviews and location. I was not disappointed! I'm not originally from the area, so I didn't have any experience with alterations in the area. I took the dress in around 6 weeks prior to my wedding and had 2 fittings before picking up. I had the dress taken in and some mesh sleeves completely taken off. The prices were what I would've expected, I was about $350 for the bustles, taking off the sleeves, taking in at the top & pressing. She was extremely professional, extremely efficient and everything looked great! I know of others who have taken their dresses to bridal shops and paid just as much, but then had issues with the dress. Everything held up great all night and I was so comfortable in my dress. I had no problems with the appointments & everything was ready on time. While I was picking up my dress another customer came in with an immediate repair for a dress she needed the next day, she didn't hesitate at the request. read more

This is a long overdue review for Quality Alterations, I came here based on the good reviews on yelp and the reviews are SPOT ON. I brought a relatively difficult piece to quality Alterations, I needed sleeves shortened, but the sleeves each had about 6 lines of stitching, so I knew I was asking for quite a bit of work. When I got it back it was perfect. The lines of stitching were there and the original inner piece of the sleeve was reused, and she explained that she took fabric from what was cut off to make up the difference in the shortened sleeve. PERFECT and THANK YOU. Within the AA area, this is the only place I will take my alterations to. read more

I brought a baby blanket I knit for two friends of mine who are having a baby in the fall to Lucia to have a piece of fabric sewn onto the back of the blanket to hide the mess in the back from the colorblocking work. She helped me figure out the best fabric to use that would make it easier to back the blanket and that would look the nicest. I had no clue how to sew the fabric to the blanket, but Lucia found a way! And it turned out looking AMAZING! The parents-to-be are in love with the finished product. Lucia was so nice about letting me know that she had never done something like this, but the final result looks professional and the price was very reasonable. The woman there was able to work with me to figure out a timeline that worked, actually called a customer in order to ask if it was okay to prefer my alteration, and ultimately saved my butt. Quality Alterations offered by far my best experience with a tailor, and I've had a lot of them. I came in hoping to have my suit pants hemmed and brought in. I'm a skinny guy who wears a slimmer fit but communicating this to tailors, suit shops, et cetera, is more often than not surprisingly difficult. I had no such issues at Quality Alterations. In fact, the end result (which was perfect, by the way!) required so little on my part. I barely gave any details before the tailor pinned my pants to a style she could tell I wanted. I was a bit worried the pants would be too slim, since she had pinned a fair amount of fabric, but they were absolutely perfect and just a bit looser than the casual pants I wear (which, again, is exactly what I was hoping for). On top of this, there were no signs of alterations. On top of all of this, I was able to get my pants tailored in a VERY short amount of time. I even called 24 hours after dropping them off to ask if they could be done a day earlier. The request was met with no hesitation. I can't say enough about my experience. I'm exceptionally finicky with how I want my clothes tailored, and I couldn't find a single aspect of the finished product that would've justified being less than 100% happy with it. read more

I can't give anything less than 5 stars to this place. The woman who owns(?) this place saved me from the biggest pinch. I flew in for a wedding, and discovered the afternoon of that the zipper on my pants broke. I checked Yelp for any places open in Detroit, and there were none open on Sunday that could do a same-day zipper repair. I called Quality Alterations and the woman told me to come down and she would be able to do it. Mind you this was at around 2 PM, and she probably thought I would arrive in like 10 minutes, and they close at 4:00 on Sundays. Unfamiliar with the area and with a dying phone, I arrived at *3:15*. She STILL took me in and didn't charge an expedited service fee. Mind you she was about to go on vacation and had a flight later that same day, and she ended up staying after closing to fix my zipper. Feeling absolutely terrible and indebted, I tried to leave a nice tip, but her kindness and help were truly priceless. If I'm ever in Michigan again, this is the place I'll always try to come back to. What a life saver. (By the way, while I was waiting I overheard her talking with a fussy customer on the phone, and she offered them a total refund for whatever they were complaining about. And she did it all with such calm and poise. Please be kind to this lady. She deserves nothing less.) read more

I bought a suit from Kohl's for my wedding and although it fit pretty well, it was in need of some slight tailoring. Being a procrastinator, I needed to find a place with three weeks to spare. I found Quality Alterations to have the best report in the area, so I called and scheduled an appointment. After a 20 minute appointment I was out the door and picked up the suit two weeks later. Everyone says that it is a bit expensive, but still gives five stars. That's right. We're willing to pay a lot for good meals, beautiful houses, relaxing vacations, and many other things we consume and enjoy everyday. So, why not pay a little more for the things in which we constantly present ourselves to others? I had my shirts, a suit, and trousers done by Lucia. I don't care whether she personally alters my clothes because I trust her decision in hiring the right workers who have done amazing jobs on my clothes. In the end, she is a problem-solver, exactly knowing what to do in order to improve how we look in clothes. This is how Lucia handled my concerns: 1. First and foremost, she asked me what I wanted. 2. Then, she used her expertise to draw limits on what she can do and what she can't do. We as consumers do not have full knowledge about tailoring. For instance, I wanted my shirts to be slimmer, but being too slim would have made me look ridiculous. Lucia advised me on this wisely. 3. Lucia makes her pricing criteria clear. You decide whether you want to get her services depending on the prices she suggests. Sometimes, it is not worth tailoring a cheap baggy shirt. 4. She promised me a deadline, and I was able to pick up my stuff on or after the promised time. Now, let me talk about the results. All of my tailored clothes look like expensive Italian products. In addition to the excellent look, they fit me perfectly well. Lucia encouraged me to try them on in the shop. I was very satisfied with the results. I am coming back to Lucia whenever I need to get sometime tailored. I believe in the value of establishing and maintaining trust with a tailor. Someone on Yelp complained that Lucia charged $20 for sewing a button. Guess what? If you brought over $200 of business to her, she might have done it free of charge. You can't expect discounts and free services when you're just a new customer to a tailor. You give loyalty in exchange for excellent services Lucia provides. I recently went here to get suits tailored. I had bought the suits at Macy's for an interview, but they had wanted to charge me 12 dollars per suit and when I told them I would need them before my interview, they wanted to charge me an extra 8 per suit. When I came to quality alterations, she assured me she could do it in less than two days so I could be relaxed. She did do it in two days! And she she did a wonderful job. She also charged me twenty dollars less than Macy's. I would go here even if I didn't need a suit just for the great customer service. I wish she also sold airline tickets! read more

I needed suits altered for a week of interviews on campus and in NY. Lucia was super busy but found time fix two suits in a short time. When I first visited, I cut her lunch short but she had me change into my suits and slowly and thoroughly checked all areas that needed to be altered. Again she had piles of clothes to be fixed, but she never rushed the process. In the end, my $150 BR suit looked amazing (so others said) and I like to think it helped me land the job that I'll be starting next summer. The Asian woman insulted my fiancee by calling her fat. She told her she needed to shrink her chest and to go exercise. I love my beautiful full-figured bride at any size. She was even bigger before, she had already lost 30 pounds just for our wedding. After all of her hard work, it was crushing to hear her feel ugly. No bride should feel that, even if she's half a ton. My bride is a size 12/14(?). The whole point of "alterations" are to get the dress to fit the bride regardless of cost, or amount of work.My fiancee cried from the first interaction, but the owners tried to make things right by having Lucia work with her. Now, it wasn't a simple hem-job. The chest needed to be let-out. It was an Indian bridal dress. We gave them this task to complete 3 weeks before the wedding day. If need be, there was extra material for the dress from the pants. We were very clear about whether or not they'd be able to accomplish the task in the time frame. She paid $250 upfront for letting the dress out, and removing ill-fitting bra pads. My fiancee had a family emergency and was unavailable for a few days. They reprimanded her for not getting in touch with them sooner, even after she apologized.She went in person to speak with the owner (husband). My fiancee told them to just let her pay what she owed and that she was going to find another place. He didn't let her take the dress. It was held hostage. The owner's husband kept saying Lucia was "on vacation." They kept telling her that she needed to pay for more work and changed the story to "Lucia is sick." My wife didn't want to wait until she was forced to work with the Asian woman who was horrible.Eventually my fiancee made an appointment for 8/31 (when the wedding was Sept 9th). The night before, she received a call saying that they couldn't get her in for a final fitting until 9/2. The next day she went to the place. Her dress was still in pieces. She had to walk out with it on. They called 3 more times to try to convince her to return. Luckily we found Lisa's Tailoring, she squeezed us in right away. She set aside 2 days to get the dress done. She only wanted to charge $45 dollars (we of course paid her more). She said it wasn't a big deal and that she didn't need any fabric added. I highly recommend searching elsewhere if you have a plus-sized bride, or if you are working in a time crunch. We both are culturally aware, but there is a threshold when it's just rude and unprofessional. read more

Lucia did a fantastic job shortening three dresses for my son's wedding. One dress had three layers, and her work was beautiful. At my request, she made masks from the extra fabric and went an extra step to ensure they were lined with cotton and the work was so well done (seems strange to say they are beautiful masks!). Even more, I felt safe in her shop, as the only customer there during my scheduled appointments. All precautions were taken and my visits were professional, friendly and efficient. Needed to get a poofy A-line skirt altered for a bridesmaid outfit. Brought it in 2 weeks before wedding. Reception at store was meh, but whatever, I'm here to get a skirt altered at the end of the day. Tried it on for Lucia and she explained that it was so poofy because there was too much material in the skirt. She said she would remove excess material to get it to be more flowy and she would remove the elastic band and refit it with another loser one--total cost was $60 Anyway I suppose this is standard...I don't get too many things altered so I'm not the best judge of price. The skirt was ready in a week or so and 100x better than when I first tried it on. So much thanks to Lucia for that! read more

She is extremely professional and courteous and her work is impeccable. I took her my wedding dress, which was 3 sizes bigger because I bought it as a sample, and she fixed it so well, it looks custom made. She also added a bustle to the dress and made it look even better! I highly recommend her. I only have good things to say about her. And also, her prices are very reasonable!
