The Saltbox Smokehouse - Pulled pork on kaiser roll

Stopping in right at opening, we were greeted by kind staff members. We wanted to try everything,…read moreso we put in an order for brisket, pulled pork, bacon, and kielbasa. Alongside the meats, we wanted to try their sides as well which consisted of mac and cheese, baked beans, corn bread, cole slaw and salt potatoes. For the brisket which we looked forward to the most, we found these to be drier than we would have liked. Paired with sauce, they were just okay. For the pulled pork, we found this to be phenomenal. Smoky and delicious all on its own. Definitely a highlight for us. For the bacon, we ordered 3 different kinds, and we found the flavors didn't really shine through. Although generously thick cut and cooked perfectly. The kielbasa was a bit of a letdown. We found these to be on the dry side, but the flavors were okay. For the sides, the mac and cheese we found the pasta to be a bit overcooked and overall, on the bland side. The baked beans tasted great, no complaints there. The corn bread wasn't anything special and neither were the salt potatoes. Although we did enjoy the salt potatoes and found they were exactly how they ought to be. The cole slaw was also on the bland side and tasted more of the fridge than any flavor. We've heard good things about their smoked wings which we had to try before leaving. We ordered a 5-piece with their spicy Asian sauce. The wings were delicious, the smokiness flavor penetrated throughout the entire wing, but the sauce was very salty which took away from the natural delicious taste of the smoked wings. Overall, a good experience which some seasoning issues but would revisit if we were back in the area.

Specialties would be their jams and pickles- I have fun just looking at the names of them. Their candy selection is also good, especially if you like gummy candies. I can also find some unique sodas such as white birch beer, sassafras soda, and cheerwine to name a few. There is a little gift shop/religious books section near the front, which can be nice to browse through. Saunders sells outdoor furniture and decor, and there is a furniture store proper attached. I've been especially tempted by their swiveling and gliding rocking chairs. I've had some good food at the cafe, the Reuben in particular being super tasty. You do have to enter the cafe through the store and park your cart before you go into the cafe. You order at the counter and then the staff gives you a number and will bring you your meal. Car parking is ample here but there are speed bumps, so watch it! I haven't noticed any bike racks, so cyclists likely need to get creative. The store is closed on Sundays and can be busy with campers during the summer months.

Located off Lake Keuka, The Olney Place offers a good variety of sandwiches and other food items as well as nice craft beers in their tap room. I went here with my family and friends for lunch. My friends told us about The Olney as a great place for sandwiches and craft brews, and I was totally down for it. The Olney is a big shop with indoor and patio seating areas overlooking Lake Keuka. It has counter service. We ordered three sandwiches. One was the Mustang, the other one was Scotsman, and the third one, I can't remember. The Mustang had ham, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, oil, and vinegar on an 8" bread roll. The Scotsman originally came with tuna salad, banana peppers, bacon, and tomatoes in a wrap, but I asked for chicken salad and on an 8" roll instead. The sandwiches were flavorful and delicious. Mine hit the spot. I also had a Hawaiian Punch Sour beer from Rising Storm brewery, and it was refreshingly delicious. I had a good experience and would go back here. Check out this establishment when in the Penn Yan area of upstate NY.

And if you go outside by the picnic tables there is couple games including cornhole.
