The inside is full of awesome art as well - some on permanent display, others seem to be more temporary. There are plenty of places to relax and read, including two outdoor spaces in the middle of the building. There is also an innovation station, where you can work on art like monogram or paper arrangements. The librarians were also very friendly and encouraged quietly seeing how beautiful their library is.

A lot has changed in the past 30+ years and the library is nicely modernized but still keeps a familiar and welcoming feel. A big draw is the children's room. The book and media selection is fantastic, there is a fish tank and puzzles and games, and there are lots of year-round programs offered for kids of various ages. I also appreciate the bargain used books for sale - I always make sure to check these shelves out as several times I've found excellent like-new condition hardcover books for just a dollar or two. I love me some libraries, and even though I live in Norwalk, and our librarians are phenomenal, A+…read morelibrarians, the selection on the shelves is nothing like Westport's, which is vast, in depth, and delves far more deeply into subject matters. Their librarians area also A+ phenomenal, though I do find the ones in Norwalk are a little more loose - as in they have a bit more of a sense of humor. That might just be me, and my type of humor - and also that I don't look like I fit in (really in CT in general, but especially in Westport.) That said, I actually like Westport. It is a rich town, but they are a generous town with their resources, and one of those ways in which they are is they allow reciprocity with Norwalk residents so we can utilize their library. This huge, two floor structure is so much more thana mere library - it has a state-of-the-art recording studio that far surpasses ones I have used or recorded in (and I have released three CDs and been on three compilations), a large stage for performances and lectures (including the epic Verso Fest, which happens annually -- and is affordable, even for people who do not have a lot of disposable income), a band shell on the property with free shows - and not wildly expensive larger name shows, a summer farmer's market (which is out of my budget by far too much, but that is not the library's doing), free parking, a gorgeous outdoor space to eat (from their fairly priced and delicious -- fresh -- cafe) overlooking the water, gorgeous grounds, and it is a wonderful escape -- all but from reality. I love their selection of law books. I love they have a wait list with your name waiting on the side of the book where you can just pick it up after they email you. They also have a section where you can borrow anything from a cake pan to a record player to a ukulele to a projector. They really care, and it shows. The fact that they allow the neighboring town that does not have these extensive resources to use them is just so amazing and I am so thankful for that. I love this library. Thank you, Westport, for knowing you are lucky to be where you are and for being so generous and welcoming to the have-nots in this world.

Most people my age hang out at Borders or Barnes & Noble when they want some reading material. Not me, I know the real deal in Fairfield. See, Fairfield has such good funding for their three libraries that they have all the latest books (multiple copies) that you can borrow for free, plus hundreds of DVD movies, even the newest! Why use Netflix when I can take them free from the Fairfield Library. Internet access, a play area for the kids, quiet for the old folks, and librarians who really look like TV librarians. Our tax dollars at work. That's why I roll in the 2-0-3.

Pequot Library is the best! There is public parking behind, but the construction makes it challenging to get to. There is street parking, and if you're terrible at it like me, you may circle the block a few times. Inside they have a display so you can see what the future building will look like. They also have their regular children's and adults sections. The new building should be open in 2023, and looks like it will definitely be worth a visit!

They have attractive displays in the entry area and throughout the library. There were enough signs around that made it easy for me to find the type of books I was looking for. When I was ready to check out, the librarian at the circulation desk was very friendly. I also love that their book return is a drive up one!

I am generally mixed regarding this library. It has some good aspects to it, particularly the sheer…read moreselection of books and physical media and the comfortable setting, but it also has some flaws. For one, the noise level is mediocre. Inattentive parents will bring their noisy kids here, and the librarians make no attempt to reprehend the noise. The echo level doesn't help either, as those who are trying to their work or read a book are off-put by whiny kids in the lobby. But the good here does outshine the bad, particularly when it comes to what they have here. The teen and DVD sections are excellent, and there's some great books and movies that you can check out here.
