Large library with extensive collections and a fast friendly staff. The History Room, on the lower level, combines the library's former Local History Collection with the archival collections of the former Norwalk Museum. It houses this large array of published and unpublished books and papers, photographs and maps, among other materials, recording over three hundred years of Norwalk history. Ms. Bullen was very helpful in helping me tract down ancestry information and even found a rare photo for me.

There are many options at the Library

The Library staff is very helpful. I was able to apply and receive a library card in a few minutes. The resources for small businesses and entrepreneurs are great. I recommend a visit. Plenty of fee parking is available at the garage across the street, just a short walk.

Took a two year old here on a Saturday morning as soon as they opened. We were the first ones…read morethere and we were greeted by a security guard which was interesting for a library. I guess peace of mind? There is a secluded area for kids, which is nice. They have a bunch of puzzles and kids toys to play with, which is what we did for about an hour or so. They also have some educational computer games, which in my opinion is the opposite reason to come to the library (want to get the kids AWAY from screens). The man that worked there was overly welcoming, which was interesting and kind of off-putting, honestly. As we were playing, I heard a toilet flush from the kid area in the corner and he immediately came out (certainly didn't wash his hands!). Before we left, I took my kid to the same bathroom, which is a single bathroom for families. As soon as I opened the bathroom door, my nostrils were assaulted by the potent smell of urine. THERE WAS PEE ALL OVER THE SEAT AND IN A HUGE PUDDLE ALL IN FRONT OF THE SEAT. Obviously, it was the male employee that worked there since he was the one only person to use it that morning. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was like he intentionally sprayed everything but the actual water in the toilet. Extremely vile and clearly he does not care about keeping an area that is designated for CHILDREN sanitary. Thank God there was Lysol sanitizing spray although that is NOT THE POINT. I shouldn't have to clean a public toilet because a grown man is too careless to aim. I will not make it a point to come back to this library because of that man. The woman at the desk in the kid area was very kind and helpful. I would've given 4 stars if I wasn't so disgusted.

I had to be placed on reservation for a computer in the main area. If the teen room is empty, what's the harm in using the computers in there? It's not like there isn't a time limit on computer usage. Silly policy. Not only that, they don't monitor the computer area. They allow people to freely use their cell phones and have loud conversations. Go to the East Norwalk branch. It's bigger, better, cleaner and doesn't smell.

We've attended a couple of their scheduled events. The beautiful, modern, minimalist auditorium incorporates the surrounding landscape seamlessly. Excellent acoustics and high-end electronic equipment help the speakers and performers give their best. A recent sold-out lecture by Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer was inspiring, challenging and warmly entertaining. It was followed by a marvelous chamber music concert featuring a collection mostly contemporary works influenced by a connection with nature. There is plenty to do there from an indoor basketball court to a complimentary tea tasting. There is also a library and plenty of common areas where people can read or get work done. Everyone who works there is very friendly and helpful. They have a lot of different free events, so would recommend checking their schedule online before going. It wasn't super busy when I went, but would suggest getting a free ticket online in advance just in case.

I'm unclear why there are hippos and elephants outside, unless it's just because they're awesome art. The inside is full of awesome art as well - some on permanent display, others seem to be more temporary. There are plenty of places to relax and read, including two outdoor spaces in the middle of the building. There is also an innovation station, where you can work on art like monogram or paper arrangements. The librarians were also very friendly and encouraged quietly seeing how beautiful their library is.

A lot has changed in the past 30+ years and the library is nicely modernized but still keeps a familiar and welcoming feel. A big draw is the children's room. The book and media selection is fantastic, there is a fish tank and puzzles and games, and there are lots of year-round programs offered for kids of various ages. I also appreciate the bargain used books for sale - I always make sure to check these shelves out as several times I've found excellent like-new condition hardcover books for just a dollar or two. Thanks Wilton Library for being such a wonderful part of the town for so many years!
