I am generally mixed regarding this library. It has some good aspects to it, particularly the sheer selection of books and physical media and the comfortable setting, but it also has some flaws. For one, the noise level is mediocre. Inattentive parents will bring their noisy kids here, and the librarians make no attempt to reprehend the noise. The echo level doesn't help either, as those who are trying to their work or read a book are off-put by whiny kids in the lobby. But the good here does outshine the bad, particularly when it comes to what they have here. The teen and DVD sections are excellent, and there's some great books and movies that you can check out here. read more

If you have kids and live near this library or are visiting, you must come to this library. It is a one of a kind. The kids "floor" is unlike and section of library I've been to. They have themed rooms and various toys in each for the kids to play and use creativity. They have prepacked bags with all the books and topics that you maybe looking for. Very impressive children's department and I was told this more than once prior to actually going by to see. It's clearly the result of many years of diligence in not only kid museum's but in libraries as well. The interactive and creative environment fosters more educational and learning experience without a doubt. Not a bad library in general outside the kid's area to be honest. Awwww I love this library! The children's section is my son's favorite place to visit. This is EXACTLY the type of library every child should have access to in order to encourage reading and safe play. There are areas for dramatic expression, for sensory exchange, for rolling and tumbling, and for good old fashioned exercise....all of these areas have books readily available and the kids seem to love it. My son asks to go all the time. I also like the "recycled books section" because I get tons of items in great condition for less than $1 and often more like $.50. read more

This library has a nice children's area. It is a very inviting space and is separated into a few different areas. My kids' favorite area is the castle. It's a great place to play or find a nook to read. I do wish they had more puzzles and maybe something like coloring to keep the kids occupied even longer. But we had a lot of fun and the book selection is great, which is ultimately what a library is for, so I certainly wouldn't knock any stars off. read more

I've been coming every day for the past few weeks for a quiet place study and I don't know what people are talking about. It's far from quiet. This in a great location, it's somewhat clean, some of the employees are nice and it does have a really good kids department on the second floor BUT a quarter of the librarians are power freaks. Kids run thru the place screaming and no one corrects their behavior; parent or employee. You can find quit place but only for a limited period of time because people feel that it's perfectly ok to sit down and talk on the phone or to each other. This is not a coffee shop! And the librarians aren't any help in correcting this. The Internet is slow, weak and drops out at least 5 times a day. I been to much better libraries. I only come because it's slightly quieter than my home or office. As soon as I'm done with my class I won't be coming back. read more

This library is wonderful. Many programs for children. There is a wonderful upstairs section for children & wonderful staff who understand how hard it is to find a safe warm place for children on a bad weather day in CT. I see comments about children being too loud on other posts. Maybe it is walking in & out of the library in the lobby? The children section is upstairs & segregated so the children's play isn't disruptive. Unfortunately unless you've cared for a child you don't understand the challenges involved. We are lucky that our town invests in our children & teaches them the value of books, reading, learning & the free resources at the library! The children programs, game days, events, & story times are amazing. Fairfield Library is a wonderful place & we all belong there young, old & in between!!! read more

This review is not mediocre, but a mix of high and low. The have very good book collections, the staff is very supportive and helpful, and they have a nice mix of rooms around the building. Four stars (Darien would be five, but they are much newer). The routers have been replaced and the internet performs much better now. The low part of the rating I put squarely on the parents who bring their children into the library. There is simply no regard by many parents, not all, for other patrons of the library. They permit their precious children to run, yell, throw tantrums, or just talk way too loud in ways that are respectful that this is a library. Without a doubt, it is the loudest library I have ever been in. There are quieter areas, too, but there those are often disregarded. Besides, people should just respect that it is a library and not a playground. Staff, while in almost all areas earn high marks and praise, does almost nothing to correct or control this behavior. read more
