Inattentive parents will bring their noisy kids here, and the librarians make no attempt to reprehend the noise. The echo level doesn't help either, as those who are trying to their work or read a book are off-put by whiny kids in the lobby. But the good here does outshine the bad, particularly when it comes to what they have here. The teen and DVD sections are excellent, and there's some great books and movies that you can check out here.

Jamie was fantastic, and marvelously helpful. We were provided gloves, the selection of boxes we were interested in, and a mapping material to tell us what was in what box. There were enough chairs for all of us and two large tables to lay things out on. We had a great time. Great service, easy to find, and could even make an appointment for an out of town visit. I mostly use it online because I'm usually working when the library is open. But the book sale was actually worth it. I got three CDs for $3. You can't beat that deal. They have tons of books plus more that are on skids that haven't been unpacked yet. They're only opening the book sale on Thursday and Saturday so I guess the next time I get to go will be a Saturday. Unless I have a unexpected day off. Scott was very nice to talk to and we had a brief conversation. I guess I'm going to be going back when I have no idea but I will be going back.

Turning left out is a little bit of a challenge - cars intermittently come from both directions. The library itself looks like it was built in the 70s, with a spacious entryway that hadn't quite realized it's potential. The interior is divided into adult, teen, and children. The children's section is particularly adorable with the endcaps painted to look like a rainbow. The library has multiple areas to study and read in the teen and adult section, and is well lit. The librarians at the reference desk were particularly friendly and informative, and welcoming visitors back to their library. Stopping in was a great experience!

The admission fee was accordingly waived for us. One exhibit was on quilts. The exhibits were drawn from their extensive textile collection. These colorful scenes of early New England life were gorgeous. If you ever wanted to know how quilts are pieced and stitched together or if you're just a quilt lover, you will enjoy this exhibit. The second exhibit was a biggie -it drew a TV crew (Cable Connecticut 12) into the room to film a segment. Guess who made a 2 second guest appearance in their piece? Ever seen those childrens books abiut "Busytown" by Richard Scarry? He was a Fairfield native and quite a few of Fairfield's businesses and landmarks ended up in those books. The exhibit is an immersive experience that allows you to select one of his animal cartoon figures and walk through the colorful streets of Busytown. You can teach your kids how communities work, what jobs people have, learn about transportation and all kinds of interactive exhibits- think opening doors and reading things inside the door. This has got to be a blast for kids or a nostalgic visit for anyone who grew up on Scarry's books.
