It houses this large array of published and unpublished books and papers, photographs and maps, among other materials, recording over three hundred years of Norwalk history. Ms. Bullen was very helpful in helping me tract down ancestry information and even found a rare photo for me.

We were looking through books and a loud deep voice was talking and shouting across the library the entire half hour we were in the library ruined our visit. I couldn't understand why the librarians weren't kicking them out. When I went to say something, I noticed it was a librarian doing all the talking. A woman with a deep voice. We tried moving to other parts of the library, but we could hear her everywhere. I left without getting a card or taking books out, because I couldn't hear my own thoughts over her talking. I went back yesterday hoping for it to be quieter. The deep voice talker wasn't there, but this time there was a different woman with tatoos and two blonde women having a party at the big librarian desk. That's what they had to be doing because they were loud cackling and laughing. I left again without getting a library card and I won't be back. It's sad there aren't peaceful places anymore where I can bring my grandson and read a book in a quiet place. I thought the library was that one place for us.

They have attractive displays in the entry area and throughout the library. There were enough signs around that made it easy for me to find the type of books I was looking for. There is public parking behind, but the construction makes it challenging to get to. There is street parking, and if you're terrible at it like me, you may circle the block a few times. Inside they have a display so you can see what the future building will look like. They also have their regular children's and adults sections. The new building should be open in 2023, and looks like it will definitely be worth a visit!

Beyond an excellent selection of books and other printed material, they have a lending library of all sorts of unexpected things, including games, metal detectors, coffee makers, and more. There's also a terrific lineup of talks, symposiums, classes, and community events, plus their own music and podcast studio and even a 3D-printing lab. And I have a feeling I'm only scratching the surface of what they offer. This is what a public library should be.

I love me some libraries, and even though I live in Norwalk, and our librarians are phenomenal, A+…read morelibrarians, the selection on the shelves is nothing like Westport's, which is vast, in depth, and delves far more deeply into subject matters. Their librarians area also A+ phenomenal, though I do find the ones in Norwalk are a little more loose - as in they have a bit more of a sense of humor. That might just be me, and my type of humor - and also that I don't look like I fit in (really in CT in general, but especially in Westport.) That said, I actually like Westport. It is a rich town, but they are a generous town with their resources, and one of those ways in which they are is they allow reciprocity with Norwalk residents so we can utilize their library. This huge, two floor structure is so much more thana mere library - it has a state-of-the-art recording studio that far surpasses ones I have used or recorded in (and I have released three CDs and been on three compilations), a large stage for performances and lectures (including the epic Verso Fest, which happens annually -- and is affordable, even for people who do not have a lot of disposable income), a band shell on the property with free shows - and not wildly expensive larger name shows, a summer farmer's market (which is out of my budget by far too much, but that is not the library's doing), free parking, a gorgeous outdoor space to eat (from their fairly priced and delicious -- fresh -- cafe) overlooking the water, gorgeous grounds, and it is a wonderful escape -- all but from reality. I love their selection of law books. I love they have a wait list with your name waiting on the side of the book where you can just pick it up after they email you. They also have a section where you can borrow anything from a cake pan to a record player to a ukulele to a projector. They really care, and it shows. The fact that they allow the neighboring town that does not have these extensive resources to use them is just so amazing and I am so thankful for that. I love this library. Thank you, Westport, for knowing you are lucky to be where you are and for being so generous and welcoming to the have-nots in this world.

The farm is free to attend and roam around, and it's great for dates or hanging out with friends. There is extensive grounds and beautiful architecture. Their food was also really good--everything was organic and many items were grown right there on the farm! There were also free tea tastings when we went. Such a lovely way to spend a beautiful day.

I'm unclear why there are hippos and elephants outside, unless it's just because they're awesome art. The inside is full of awesome art as well - some on permanent display, others seem to be more temporary. There are plenty of places to relax and read, including two outdoor spaces in the middle of the building. There is also an innovation station, where you can work on art like monogram or paper arrangements. The librarians were also very friendly and encouraged quietly seeing how beautiful their library is.

A lot has changed in the past 30+ years and the library is nicely modernized but still keeps a familiar and welcoming feel. A big draw is the children's room. The book and media selection is fantastic, there is a fish tank and puzzles and games, and there are lots of year-round programs offered for kids of various ages. I also appreciate the bargain used books for sale - I always make sure to check these shelves out as several times I've found excellent like-new condition hardcover books for just a dollar or two. Thanks Wilton Library for being such a wonderful part of the town for so many years!
