Has been my go to store for 30 years, but during 3-4 visits over the past several months I have been disappointed with the level of service and the hardware knowledge of the employees. I'm guessing it's due to the sad state of the labor market and wages. Today I needed some 15, 20, and 30 amp buss fuses. Since they move stuff around constantly, I asked the two cashiers in the front of the store where I could find electrical buss fuses. They didn't know what a buss fuse was, so I asked where their electrical supply section was. The directed me to the section where I was met by an employee. She asked what I was looking for and I told her buss fuses for an old pre-breaker fuse box. She didn't know what a buss fuse was. I explained what they were and what they looked like and she kept pulling joint fittings for electrical conduit pipe out of bins and asking me if they were what I was looking for. She finally told me if they weren't on the shelves of the isle we were looking for them, they didn't carry them. I told her I was going to look in other parts of the store and she left. I walked around the other side of the isle to a lighting section and found a large selection of all kinds of buss fuses. All employees in the store were kind and friendly. That was not the problem. The problem was none of them seemed to have any knowledge of inventory in the store, much less where specific items were located. To the store management: You are a speciality hardware store. You have items that can't be purchased at the big box home improvement stores. Please employ persons who have a knowledge of such items, or train the employees you hire who don't have knowledge. read more

I just had the best experience at Westlake Ace hardware in Maryland Heights on Dorsette. Austin Greaser and his team including Scott helped me find some screws I needed to change out on some vanity knobs. the whole purchase was $1.62 they treated me so well and spent time with me to make sure they solved a problem I've had for several weeks. I'm 62 year ols woman and know nithinf about hardware, screws or sizing things. I can't believe not only did they have what I needed but they were knowledgable, professional and kind. This Ace Hardware Store off Business Loop is always my "Go to" store! Ace truly is the place with the helpful hardware man! I needed some glass for a triage frame - measured it & learned they "do" cut glass! Who would have known? I have been going to this location for years & got to know the boss - Jeff! He has such a happy staff - so he is doing everything right! You never have to search for a person to help you - they are right there eager to assist! Brought in screws to get same size and the back salesperson (bigger male not at checkout) in the midst of helping me find the right size actually said- I'm going to fill and online order instead and walked away leaving me to find them in my own. I've been a loyal customer to Westlake hardware for years! Compared to the other big box stores like Menards, Home Depot, and Lowe's you can't beat the staff and the expertise that they bring to each and every situation I've brought to them. I like hardware stores. I love this one. I don't like walking around a giant sized warehouse where it takes 45 min to find what your looking for. The staff have always been helpful and have gone above and beyond helping me solve issues and giving me excellent tips and ideas on some of the projects I've been working on. It still has a more personal and old school feel when shopping there. I don't think I would ever go to another hardware store again. read more

The Westlake clerk, whose name I think is Eric, was bent over at the waist pushing an empty cart down an aisle. Standing at the far end of a different aisle I called out to him. Never standing erect he reversed back to the aisle I was standing in. Mind you I was at the far end of this aisle, when without standing and in a bent posture, asked "What d'ya need? We were literally standing 25 foot apart and he just stood there looking down the aisle at me. I was curious about whether I was looking at the right price tag on the shelf. I would have been glad to back up so he could come and look at the price tag and that we can retain six foot of distance. Instead This jerk didn't budge.I told him I didn't need anything from him if he was going to talk to me from the other end of the aisle. He began to argue with me about safety, like I had no clue that 25 foot and 6 foot or somewhat different distances. Later I went back to get his name because I knew I was going to issue a complaint when I overheard him standing down an aisle telling another employee (ponytail guy) all about me loud enough for me to hear at some distance. Ponytail guy whose back was too me quickly withdrawals a tape measure and throws it out to 6 ft and tells me that I was standing within six foot of him. I was probably four or five foot away as I look down the aisle over his shoulder to see Eric complaining about me, a customer. I asked are you two guys really going to team up on a customer because it was beyond belief. Later I spoke to a manager named David and told him we will not be shopping at our local Ace hardware. Our family has tried to support this store rather than going to the larger Home Depot, Lowes and Menards. I get a veteran's discount at Lowe's of 10% every time I shop and Ace has never offered veterans a discount. I fear the employee dynamic at Westlakes Ace hardware on the loop is an "us and them" customer dynamic. There was never a, I'm sorry sir how can I help you" or w"all a little nervous because of Covid-19" or w"got off on the wrong foot...". I will not be the greater fool and spend my money at establishment that kicks me in the teeth. I no longer feel a sense of loyalty to this local Ace hardware Store. read more

I really enjoy shopping at Westlakes. This store is slightly smaller than the Worley store. Still covers everything you would expect from neighborhood hardware store. - Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. They can actually pin point almost any item in store. - Enjoy just browsing down the aisles allowing my imagination run wild with unexpected projects - Large section of small individual items can be purchased separately. (Screws, bolts, washers, fasteners, etc.) Much better the Lowes or Home Depot. read more

This is a nice Ace store. It's a bigger store and each time I went in, I got good service, though i usually didn't need it at all.

If you can't find it in the big box hardware stores Westlake's has it. went and picked up some Seven for my plants this morning. I enjoy going in to see whats on sale. read more

The staff was friendly and helpful, but the 3 keys I had made were all defective. DO NOT HAVE YOUR KEYS COPIED THERE. GO TO A LOCKSMITH. The prices are roughly the same anyway. read more

All the staff went out of their way to help with several items we needed. Drew was especially pleasant and helpful: taking apart a floor model of a patio table that we purchased so we could fit it in the car and figuring out another project. read more
