First, let me start by saying, when I lived in Columbia just about my whole paycheck went to gorgeous jewelry from Poppy. I still have all of it and wear it all of the time (and get a ton of compliments). I was just back in Columbia and bought some new earings, two necklaces (one for myself and one for a birthday gift for a friend) and a print by a local artist for my boyfriend. It is a great place to get gifts for just about anyone. They have a wide selection of art, jewelry, furniture, ceramics. They also have a baby and childrens section (if only I knew more babies...). The best art/craft store in Columbia. Don't buy that cookie-cutter chain store jewelry, go to Poppy and buy something original, unique, and beautiful. All my gifts for women I buy here: mom, wife, etc. Many of their items are made by local artisans. Their wall-art is also fantastic. You could decorate your home very well shopping at this place. And I can't forget to recommend the Poppettes, the young ladies who work at Poppy. They are always very helpful and knowledgeable about the items Poppy sells. They also model the jewelry for the store, and do a great job of it. Also, their window displays are always unique and attractive. I first visited Poppy looking for unique gifts for a housewarming party and left with those gifts plus some. I couldn't help myself! This quickly became one of my favorite places in Columbia for gifts and paper goods. I've purchased home decor items, wine candles (yes, wine candles), some baby gifts and multiple cards, all with great response from the recipients. I love that they sell handmade items, and that most come from right here in Columbia. It adds to to the specialness of it all. The inventory isn't large, so if you find something you want, get it sooner rather than later. I have waited to purchase something and found it no longer available when I returned. A large section of the store is devoted to paper goods (mostly traditional cards). If you have time, browse through these, they are delightful. The cards are pricier than what you'll find at a chain store, but you get what you pay for. Poppy is a super fun store in Columbia MO right in the district! They have amazing handcrafted jewelry, handbags, cachkies, art, stationary, and greeting cards just to name a few things. I go to Poppy every time I need to get a greeting card, which is like once a month, and they always have new items. I am sure that whatever life event you are experiencing, they will have a greeting card that helps you express it! If you are a jewelry lover, or you need a great gift, Poppy is your new go-to. They have cases and cases of handcrafted, unique and absolutely stunning jewelry. Necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, they have it all and the great thing is whatever piece you buy, it's probably a one-of-a-kind piece. The last time I went they even had this serving tray with tiny, handcrafted, glass animals. Hanging on the tray was tiny little bird cages. So, you picked out your tiny animal and then put him in this tiny bird cage - AHHHH - my 6-year-old daughter and I could not get enough. This place is a gem. Great selection of handcrafted jewelry. They have a variety of crafts, like pottery, linens, toys, and glass. There is a great deal of light that comes into the store, which helps to really see the high-quality of the merchandise. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the artists. It's a relaxed atmosphere and no one tries to push a sale. It has been a long time since I've been into an artists' boutique that I really enjoyed pursuing around in; Poppy was perfect! I really want to buy something from this store, but in the end nothing ever appeals enough to make me want to buy it. Does walking in this store make me less of a man? Perhaps. This is not a hardware store, that's for sure, but who says a guy can't respect some of the stuff they've got here. It's like a halfway gift-store/art-gallery, and they constantly rotate the local artists they find, so you can be surprised when you check out the wares from month to month. In fact, I did find something really functional there, a loofa scrub-sponge for the kitchen. You know, after you go out and hunt a big animal and cook it up on the grill? Yea, you need loofa sponges to clean up the grissle. Anyhow, it's a nice place for all genders. read more

Poppy is the cutest shop i have been to in Columbia. We always walk through poppy and browse whenever we are downtown so I knew when my mom came to visit from Los Angeles that this was one of the places I had to bring her to. We spent quite a while shopping and the employees were extremely friendly and helpful. They have so many items such as beautiful handmade jewelry, adorable greeting cards for any occasion you could think of, unique home decor, cute clothing, seasonal decorations, this list goes on. If you need to find the perfect gift for your mom, wife, sister or friend I highly recommend poppy. My mom and I ended up buying each other one of their Christmas necklaces along with a special box to store it in. They took the time to gift wrap our purchases and it was just too cute. Poppy has fabulous jewelry! They vary their selection for different budgets and taste levels. I can't go downtown without checking in here - aside from the cases of really neat and original jewelry, there's offbeat furniture, art, wine holders, handmade cards, and various other trinkets you'll find if you look around. One of the owners is almost always there, and the entire staff is really friendly and helpful, not to mention the fact that they tend to model their own jewelry! This is one of the best (and there are several) places to go for nice gifts for a girlfriend or a host or pretty much anyone who enjoys the original and yet beautiful. I love this store! I can find a gift for anyone here including myself! I probably did half of my Christmas shopping here. Poppy has unique Missouri crafts without being "in your face Missouri style." They have the cutest baby toys and accessories, a large selection of home made cards, funky jewelery, and really cool pottery. They have some great nontraditional Christmas ornaments during the holiday season as well. My favorite thing in the store is the giant United States wall hanging where each state is made out of it's own license plate-just go in to admire it!! read more
