You would think an organization full of kids wouldn't promote bullying but this place is not the place for your kid. Take them somewhere else if they want to ride horse. 4-H is a way better option. Unless your child is one of their favorites then they will dismiss them, bully them and make them feel like they don't matter. Not to mention it's so outdated. Like seriously how about you try something new? The uniforms are awful, their shows are awful. It's our excuse to use the bathroom when they come on. Don't waste your time on putting your kids in Westernaires! There are some wonderful people inside the organization but what it represents is awful and they really don't treat a lot of the kids well. I was a member for 7 years, and finally quit i had 2 years to finish and I finally made it to the "professional"/performing division and I got treated extremely disrespectful by my instructors and monitors, I'm not a "favorite" in the program and if you're not a favorite you WILL get treated differently many members of the program have witnessed or experienced the same thing, the ones who haven't are most likely the favorites! I'm 18 working more than 50 hours a week or more I'm also in school I also have horses of my own to take care of and I don't live with my parents like the other riders so I have a lot more responsibilities that I have to task and handle and they were not understanding at all, I don't have a car so I find rides to get their or take public transportation which takes me a very long time to make it, my efforts to even be there were not being appreciated at all and I was told that I wasn't trying and that I was being the disrespectful one when I tried telling them my situation and they weren't listening!! Also to get started on the horses, they don't live a good life at all, I had to teach my self so much including how to ride correctly and correct training techniques and how to properly correct your horses. Pulling back does nothing. And an extreme safety hazard they tell riders they need to learn how to handle each horse but the main problem is most of their horses are barely trained for what they want them for and it causes major safety issues!! They will get a new horse and that horse will be in what they like to call "training" and as soon as said horse comes out of training they never go back into training, none of those horses ever get any work on ground work like they should, there's a specific horse who is an amazing horse but his ground manners suck! He can be good but when I'm trying yield his hind quarters or get him to move away from so he's not in my space he decides that he's gonna run and plow me over but when I try to walk him straight out of the arena he doesn't want to move, that is severely dangerous for anyone. I used my horse for a year in the organization and took her out after a year because I was done with them trying to tell me what to do with MY horse when in reality they need to check on there's. So many of the horses have back problems as-well they are literally running every horse they get into the ground and treat them like they are machines. They stand all day tied at the rail tacked up getting switched between rides, yes they may get an hour or two off before going to the next class but it is not good for a horse to go that long without eating. I've seen too many good horses go to Westernaires and get ruined. It really hurts my heart to be on the inside and actually knows what goes on around there. There is a lot of good things I could say about it but it's mostly the people I've met along the way and friends I've made, there are some great people but the organization itself is not great, if you're not close with the higher ups or related to them/know someone related to them good luck making it or getting respected. People saying your kid will get bullied by the instructors/"adults" if not a favorite is true! Also they only tell members to keep quiet about the horses is because they know what they do is WRONG and they could get into trouble if it was really investigated and it would ruin the reputation that they still somehow have. they know those horses don't get the care they deserve, if you want horses to perform treat them like performance horses not machines. I know horses that don't even perform that get better care. Don't send your kid here if they're just learning how to ride cause they won't teach your kid to properly ride and there's a very high chance of your kid getting hurt here than if you go somewhere else more professional. Remember everyone you get what you pay for it's $20 an hour for a reason, if you want to actually learn something AND be safe go somewhere spend that $50, or that $75 it will be much more worth it. read more

awful experience. instructors are rude and bully kids, too much homework & quizzes (why do you need a QUIZ and HOMEWORK to ride horses?????), they don't teach you anything, and the horses don't live a good life + are hardly trained. ridiculous place. read more

My family and I attended the end of the year show near Denver. It was amazing! It was a clean facility and had many vending options at affordable prices(the program which was almost 100 pages long, and was made of book material, was only $3)! The program itself was incrediable! It was all kids who preformed. The kids were very poilite and extremly talented. At one point, there was 250 horses in the tiny arena at the gallop, but the kids moved the horses like pros. There was a variety of skills desplayed like Indian drumming, vaulting, calavary, drill, roman, driving, liberty, roping, whip tricks, dressage,TONS OF CRAZY STUFF, and more! Not at one point of the affternoon was I bored. This is an AMAZING EVENT, it is really inspiring the connection the kids have with each other and horses. The only thing I did not aprove of was the point of the show where the kids jumped the horses in western saddles and with three people on the horse. As far as I know from being an English rider and jumper, you should not jump a horse in a western saddle much less with three people on the horse. All in all though, this event was amazing!!!! read more
