This time I went to Golden Cliffs trailhead on the south side. There were two trails (0.4 & 0.8 miles). The shorter looked more difficult indicating a steep climb to the rim. I chose the longer one. I was wrong. The 0.8 mile trail was less used and I had trouble finding the trail. I took several dead-ends that brought me to the base of the cliff for climbing routes using ropes & pitons. I eventually made the entire distance in 1.5 hrs. The trail map at the trailhead said most difficult and it was right. Once on top I took the North Table Loop trail 0.3 miles to Tilting Mesa trail. I hiked another 0.3 miles to Rim Rock trail (1.7 mile) which is a big loop going to the north rim. Weather was rolling in with heavier clouds and wind. On a clear day it would be hot. I took a video at the north rim at the 2nd highest spot on 6,551 ft. The highest is Lichen Peak at 6,552 ft. I finished the loop and headed back west. There are no restrooms/porta potties or water on the mesa top. So I descended to the west parking lot. The 0.4 mile segment is probably at 6-8% grade. I looked at the trail map. I could go back up to the top and negotiate the steeper route (0.4 miles) to the Golden Cliffs trailhead where I parked my car or take a circuitous trail (1.3 miles) along the west and south side. Very scenic and the trail was clearly visible. I startled a mule deer. So if your looking for a good hike, start on the west side and get to top for a level hike. Several trails go down the east side to access other trails including one that takes you to New Terrain Brewing.

She's out there in the dead of cold to care for a clients sick horse or breaking waters that have frozen. She maintains all the rings multiple times per week. During the recent barn break-ins she offered solutions for parking to keep the clients safe. If you need extra food for your horse, she has your back. My horses have never looked better and are very happy. The board is quite affordable and the amenities are huge. I've paid more at other barns and had to use portable bathrooms. The kitchen is not only heated but has a real bathroom. It makes me sad when trainers who come there to build their business end up being untruthful and don't pay their bills. It's not ok for the clients of those trainers to then leave very rude reviews. There are plenty of clients there that have been residents for MANY years and they are loyal to this barn including two large animal vets that spend so much of their time at the barn attending to the resident horses! If you're looking for a quiet place to enjoy quality time with your horse, or to have your horse in training with one of the trainers at the facility, have open space to retire an old friend, or have a box stall with a run (with self care options) this is your place and if Emily isn't available to personally give you a tour then she will find one of the friendly staff members to fill in.

Horses are well cared for, stalls are bedded with a generous amount of shavings, feed stuffs are high quality. If something breaks (as happens around horses) it is very quickly addressed. ARS has been nothing but a great experience for us. For me, one of best features about ARS is an almost complete lack of drama. People are there to enjoy their horses, not to engage in gossip and junior high foolishness. Kathleen McPhaul, one of several trainers at the facility was the subject of a negative review for ARS on this site. If you are interested in working with Kathleen I would encourage you to look at her website and look at her nearly fourth year body of work, and don't over focus on the one review from a clearly unbalanced person. Kathleen is a very effective and accomplished trainer and instructor. She has long time customers who have become friends, and have reached goals and won competitions along the way. If you are a fit for her program, you will both have a great experience with your horse. If you need a place to enjoy your horses I hope to meet you at ARS.
