If I could give more stars I would. Emily Honeyman as a manager goes above and beyond the call of duty. She's out there in the dead of cold to care for a clients sick horse or breaking waters that have frozen. She maintains all the rings multiple times per week. During the recent barn break-ins she offered solutions for parking to keep the clients safe. If you need extra food for your horse, she has your back. My horses have never looked better and are very happy. The board is quite affordable and the amenities are huge. I've paid more at other barns and had to use portable bathrooms. The kitchen is not only heated but has a real bathroom. It makes me sad when trainers who come there to build their business end up being untruthful and don't pay their bills. It's not ok for the clients of those trainers to then leave very rude reviews. There are plenty of clients there that have been residents for MANY years and they are loyal to this barn including two large animal vets that spend so much of their time at the barn attending to the resident horses! If you're looking for a quiet place to enjoy quality time with your horse, or to have your horse in training with one of the trainers at the facility, have open space to retire an old friend, or have a box stall with a run (with self care options) this is your place and if Emily isn't available to personally give you a tour then she will find one of the friendly staff members to fill in. read more

This barn is clean, safe, affordable, and has a wonderful community with the most incredible amenities. The facility is in great shape, and it is hands down the best price for the great quality of hay, the two huge outdoor arenas, lighted indoor arena, jump course, cross country course, gymkhana events, wash rack, and round pen. When hay prices spiked super high in the summer of '22(therefore increasing board), Emily gave the option to reduce board if you self clean your own pen. Emily does an amazing job of making sure that each and every horse has what they need to be safe, happy, and healthy. I have 4 horses here, and Emily always makes sure that they are well cared for. She helps me give medications to them, she always fixes their blankets when im not around, she offers to catch and hold them for the vet when I'm at work, and she goes above and beyond to run this well managed facility. We all know that there is no shortage of rude and extreme opinions in the horse world, and at a huge barn there are always some people who are unpleasant, high maintenance, and difficult to get along with. Emily ALWAYS handles tough conversations with respect, understanding, and with a priority of making everyone in the barn community feel safe and welcome. I am so impressed with the way she kindly and attentively communicates with the handful of boarders who act like they own the place, giving unwanted and extreme advice to other boarders and staff just trying to go about their day. I'm dumbfounded by the number of boarders at Standley Lake Stables that think Emily Honeyman's services and care of their horses is anything other than terrible. My horse was there for 20 months. During that time, the following list points out just a few of the numerous reasons I didn't and wouldn't ever trust the care of my horse to Emily. * I paid for my horse to be in a barn stall that was supposed to include daily turnout. I was promised my horse would have individual turnout to accommodate her physical limitations due to age. I can count on one hand the number of times my horse was turned out because I walked her daily and evidently Emily and her staff felt that was sufficient. * My instructions were that my horse was only supposed to be fed grass hay and no alfalfa. That was followed while the owners were in charge of the facility. Once Emily took over, she changed my horse's food to mix without communicating that to me. I found out by realizing the change in my horse's behavior and talking to an employee. * Grain was included in full board when I first moved in. That was done while the owners were in charge of the facility. Once Emily took over, she discontinued feeding my horse her daily grain. Once again, she did this without communicating that to me and once again, I found out by talking to an employee. * The stall was to be cleaned on a daily basis. I can count on one hand the number of times Emily or her staff cleaned the stall. I was at the barn taking care of my horse once or twice a day. I cleaned the stall and the automatic waterer which also seldom was cleaned by staff. * Often times I cleaned other stalls in the barn that were also supposed to be full care. I felt so bad for the horses having to stand in that mess sometimes days at a time. Most specifically when one customer was in the hospital for a long period of time. Her horse didn't get turned out and the stall was neglected for days and possibly weeks. * During those 20 months, I had to be gone for 2 days. My horse required daily medication and I was assured by Emily that they would make sure she got her medication. I put the medication in baggies to help. Bottom line, she was not given her medication while I was away. * My horse was gone from the facility the 12th of July. I didn't bother to ask Emily for the remaining portion of the board I paid as she never bothered to address any issues that I brought up to her over the course of those 20 months and I knew it would be a fight. * Basically, Emily provided my horse a stall to live in for full board payment and none of the services promised when I moved in. Not only were the services not provided, she raised rates during that time charging me even more for nothing other than a stall. * Fortunately, the one good thing about my horse's stall was that she had a great run unlike the other 19 stalls in the barn. All of the other runs have terrible footing and horses are continually standing in water, mud and muck up to or even above their fetlocks. There was never any effort on Emily's part to rectify that footing nor were the runs cleaned properly to eliminate the addition of horse poop into the mud. Emily gives lip service to get you to stop bothering her about issues that might keep her from riding her horses, training horses and leaving the property to compete. She would try to organize "fun" events at the barn while not taking care of the property, fixing things that needed to be repaired, or taking care of the horses, her main responsibility. Horrible communication as far as boarding goes. I really wanted to board here since the facilities looked nice driving past. I got a few emails regarding pricing but when I asked for a tour of the facility, which is standard, I got no reply. Extremely frustrating since I had replied to an advertisement of theirs for boarding posted days earlier. I sent several more emails, texts and even called. They just stopped replying. ZERO stars! I have waited until my horse is safe to put this review, for reasons I will elaborate on. Context: Emily Honeyman, the manager, is 22 years old, and it shows. Here are some of the issues that arose in the year or so I was there. * The very unlevel stall (mound in the center) was not leveled for over 8 months of asking. * The feed was very heavy on alfalfa (and I suspect it was the cause for killing a friend's horse there, so) I tried to get her to let me buy straw hay and take it off boarding. She stated I was "robbing her blind" and she needed to "educate me" on horse feed. So I decided to move the mare to a group pen to keep things peaceful but... * There wasn't enough shelter in the group pen. I asked her to get a cover to an existing bare frame, offered to put it up, and she stated "I'm at a competition and this isn't my priority. I have other things on my list" * I moved her to a free feed pen for the grass hay. But when hay would run out sometimes it was 24 hours or more before she would put more in there. * Other issues: she allows multiple dogs to run loose in the arenas while there are horses working. One dog there is a service dog (and behaved), the rest belong to her and her friends, mainly. * She lets people leave jumps up in the outdoor arena 24/7. She then wont turn the arena for WAY too long. * Finally, it came time to leave to somewhere more professional and.... * She changed the free feed (in my pen only) to meals without discussing or giving notice. BUT.... * After I gave notice of leaving, SHE STOPPED FEEDING MY HORSE her whole meals. She was giving my 1200 lb horse just over a flake 2x/day. What kind of scumbag takes their aggression out on an animal? A coward. She did it to my friend's horse too when she gave notice. * So I asked for my deposit back and she tried to bully her way out of it. I gave 31 days notice saying I would leave Nov 4th. She stated I would have to pay for all of November if I stayed past the 31st, to try to withhold it. * I said that I would just prefer to handle it in court than fight with her over it. She finally gave it back, but not before demanding I leave that same day, only to change her mind again when I was on my way to move her, and said the mare could stay till the 31st. Naturally, I left early. Good riddance. * Moral of the story is that Emily Honeyman is a cowardly, vindictive, unprofessional, unpleasant LAZY human being you should NOT entrust your horse's care to. I wouldn't recommend her, or her facility, to my worst enemy, so long as she is involved. STEER CLEAR if you care about your horse. read more

Would absolutely recommend Standley Lake Stables and entrust Emily Honeyman to care for my horse if anything ever happened to me. I boarded here for almost 6 years, and helped Emily do little daily tasks for my last few here. Emily constantly goes above and beyond to care for the horses. She is hands down one of the hardest working, most selfless people I have ever met. Emily constantly puts the horses first, especially during winter months, which can often be hard times for ranch hands. With medical emergencies, she is also a great asset considering her veterinary experience and connections to the horse community. Emily also is a fantastic trainer who is always willing to offer a helping hand if you are struggling with your horse. The barn also has some awesome arenas that Emily took great care of constantly! I would go back to this barn in a heart beat if I could, considering the care that Emily and her barn employees provide! Super fun people who are super hard working! When I first checked this facility out I thought it was great, the owner was very nice and great at putting on a show like she knew what she was doing and she knew how to run a horse facility...let me remind you I have been riding and competing horses in the sport of Three Day Eventing since the age of 4 and also have a Bachelor's Degree in Equine Business Management and I am now 30! I should have got on here first thing and read the reviews which after things started going wrong I did and all the bad reviews on this facility are very true and exactly what I experienced. First off the owners are anything but horse people and very unprofessional. They are very under staffed and with what staff they have are not very horse savvy or experienced and would never know if there is something wrong with a horse. The owners hay business comes first, it does not matter if it is the middle of feeding time or the horses need to be tended to, the staff will run off immediately to assist in loading hay. There were many times my horses water buckets were empty on a 95 degree day and I had left notes on his stall to make sure they are filled at all times, old rancid beet pulp was dumped out on the ground in his pen with flies all over it, stall had not been cleaned all day and clumps of hay that had been sitting in his stall for several days because they had huge clumps of mold in them. Also there were times he had not been fed at all because the understaffed staff had forgotten about him and also they would just dump his new grain onto his old beet pulp from the night before without emptying or cleaning out the existing feed. Let me remind you the hay customers received the nicer hay and the boarders received the hay that was not even mediocre. They say they offer Alfalfa but most of the time the alfalfa hay was out and the horses were not even getting it. I was pretty much there every day feeding my horse because he was not being fed and dropping weight rapidly because they could not do it correctly. So much for full care board! I was told I would receive a discount for supplying my own grain which is Triple Crown Senior which is $26.00 a bag at this moment and I only received $15.00 off my board a month...wow, big help. I was also told beet pulp would be included in his feed which in the end was no longer an option and was told it was never included in the first place. The owner did not want to hear it and started to use things against me that were included in the original contract which she would never give me a copy of. The amount of board you pay there for "Full Care" is not worth $475.00 a month, if worth anything. This barn also has a "quarantine area" that is not even labeled which had a horse in it that had a possible case of VS, this quarantine area is a small pen with a tarp for shelter, the horse in there had severe sun burns all over its face as well. My leaving the facility was delayed by this incident for almost 2 weeks, which I found out not from the owner but by the vet as I needed to have a VS test done for the new facility I was bringing him to. Apparently the facility had already been under quarantine for a week and I was unaware...it was weird though how horses were still coming and going off of the property...sounds and looks pretty fishy to me. When I decided to leave this facility due to the severe lack of care, my horse dropping a great amount of weight and one of my family members being kicked off the property due to confronting the owner as a concerned boarder the owner turned into a greedy, immature little girl who is obviously in this business for the money only and does not care about the horses well being. I had to fight with this "little girl" for my contract which she still never gave me because "I was leaving and what was the point" quote on quote that is what was said to me and also that she was glad I was leaving. If I was the owner of a facility I would be very concerned if one of my boarders came to me with any of these issues and would have tried everything in my power to make the situation better and to keep my boarders happy and comfortable. Let me just say if you care about your horses and they are like family to you then don't go here, everything will seem great in the beginning and Kristy will put on a great front like she is a wonderful facility owner but eventually the true colors come out and she does not like confrontation as one girl was evicted from the property due to her horse being kicked and she did not want her horse turned out with the other horse anymore, she just wanted private turn out, Kristy's solution was to evict her. Please do not go here as it is not the last solution in the area and is by far not even close to being a facility that offers full care board as stated. As a concerned horse owner and boarder you should absolutely and completely run in the opposite direction. read more

I wouldn't keep my horse at standley lake stables if they were the last stable on the whole front range. They quoted me a price to board my horse...then they doubled that...upon my complaint they offered to reimburse half of the overage. I tried 3 separate times to collect it on principal alone. I was told it was a trivial amount and I said fine just keep it but anybody who is in business especially in the world of equine ought to work as hard as possible to keep and attract boarders. ..not fight them when they were the ones who accepted the horse in the first place. It's also a very hard drive to get out of. They will not stay in business long with the attitude the owners have...and if you board there you may just need to find another place to board...In my opinion that's not a bad thing! read more

My wife called to make sure everything was good and spoke with the owner, kristi. She said she did not have a horse for her and no record of payment. Someone just so happened to cancel so she was able to get a horse. The owner finally found our down payment but if my wife wouldn't of called our daughter would of showed up and wouldn't of had a horse, pretty devastating for a 7 year old! Kristi had a detailed convo with my wife and said that it would be fine to bring in payment on Friday as she is car pooling with another family. She denied the whole convo and won't take a check nor allow an online payment and told the other family not to pick up our daughter as they would not be allowed in, who does that! Told my to wife to go to an ATM and get cash. Started out fairly well. Pleased with the care of the horse, looked well feed and cared for. That passed quickly as more horses came and different personalities appeared. Especially the different personalities from the owner/manager. This barn I recommend to other crazy horse people. It was just a little too crazy for me. It's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get. If you just want a place to put your horse and you can sleep at night without worrying about your horse's well-being - such as your horse's stall being cleaned, fed properly, and having water, good luck for these things kept me up at night! I just had to get on here and leave something positive b/c I'm really confused by the few negative reviews. I have nothing but good things to say about Kristi and the barn. First off Kristi is SO NICE!! I wasn't there when my horse was trailered in and couldn't get out for a few days, she took the time to make sure he was introduced slowly and was all settled, sent me tons of pics of him over the next few days. I had a bunch of questions for her every day on things and she always replied so quickly and is just bubbly and nice. The barn is casual with a friendly vibe, 2 outdoor arenas and 1 indoor, 2 hot water wash-racks, access to trails, bathroom, small kitchen area with table. My horse is in one of the larger pens not the barn, they hay twice daily and will do more if you provide what you need. They keep the pens mucked out, the ranch hands have all been so friendly. If you're looking for a laid back friendly atmosphere this is a GREAT place. Let the haters hate but please don't let that deter you! I also let my horse be used in the summer camp and Kristi even sends me pics of him and his youth rider letting me know he's doing great. Couldn't ask for more. We are SO HAPPY at Standley Lake Stables! The owners and everyone who works there are so honest, caring, helpful, and kind!! The fellow boarders are super friendly! I've had my horse at Standley Lake Stables for several years now. I've been very happy with the facility. The hay is great. They're accommodating about feeding what I want, even including liquid supplements which I know are a major pain. They even soaked my horse's hay for a while when she was having a problem. At one point I noticed that my horse wasn't getting daily supplements; when I mentioned it to management, I got an immediate apology and fix - not a day missed since. I'm now facing dealing with an insulin resistant horse, and I'm getting a significant break on my board bill because I'll have to provide the majority of the feed (definitely non standard stuff). The facilities are good - love the heated water wash racks since my mare hates cold water! Great having a good sized indoor arena in the winter or when you want to get out of the sun. And I love the huge outdoor arena towards the back of the property as well as the option to work my horse around the property and not always in a contained space. Haven't tried them yet myself, but I know others like the option of riding trails off the property to the local open space parks. I've been amazed at the barn staff; I've never seen the same quality of staff at any other barn where I've boarded or visited. The stalls and pens are cleaned thoroughly daily (barring major mud issues outside!). Repairs are carried out whenever needed. In the outside pens, food is placed inside if it's raining or snowing - extra work for staff since they have to open every gate and fight past a hungry horse in their way. They also noticed and fixed the issue when my horse kept dropping food in the water tank. Instead of leaving the tank in front of the spigot near the feeder and grain bucket where it was convenient but collecting food, they moved the tank to the other side of the pen. Now they have to run a hose to fill it - and it's always kept more than half full and clean. And in winter, the ice on water tanks isn't just broken, it's broken and removed several times a day so that there's no chance of refreezing. The staff will offer to help with things like carrying grain or salt blocks without being asked and don't seem to resent being interrupted to help with a problem of any sort (like the rock caught in my horse's foot that I simply wasn't strong enough to get out or a balky lock on the tack room - Oops! not balky; wrong combination!). The horse care manager in particular is very knowledgeable and patient when I interrupt him at work! The staff pays attention to individual animals. They seem to know what's normal for each. On one occasion I got several phone calls from the barn owner and from one of the managers letting me know that while my horse didn't appear colicky, that she wasn't eating normally. I have heard of a few people leaving the facility -- but I think that's the norm for any kind of large operation like this. Not everyone will always be happy at any facility regardless of its offerings and management. Most of the "leavings" were for very typical reasons - buying property, moving to another location, etc. The few people I've heard of being asked to leave were noticeable problems -- at least to other boarders, so I assume to management as well. I've been very happy with the staff, the amenities, and, above all, my horse's care. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Standley Lake Stables. read more

Owner is rude, unethical and I would NOT ever go or trust this place with my horses! Owner made reservations for us then changed them last minute and had the gall to be rude to US about it all. Very unprofessional. 1/30/2016 I'm adding to this, as evidently the owner Kristi has just discovered how poorly her stables are rated by NUMEROUS people, and trying to call US all out as being untruthful. Sorry, you don't get THIS many bad reviews by running a good business. Below, Kristin who initially posted claiming my profile was fake and was yet another customer who was accusing her of poor business practice. I replied privately to her and reminded her of our exchange and she still updated that I never had a 'reservation' there. I absolutely did. I spoke with Kristi regarding her horse camps for kids and she told me of her background as a school teacher as she explained about their horse camps. I was trying to register my 6 year old daughter who adores horses and was having a really tough year, as our 11 month old baby, her little sister had just been diagnosed with cancer (leukemia) and we have been separated a lot as I was always in the hospital with her little sister getting chemotherapy. I explained all of this to Kristi and how important caring for and being around animals would be for my 6 year old. She put me down on the list for their camp. A few days later I found out the baby would be hospitalized that week and I may have difficulties taking/picking up my daughter so I left Kristi a message asking if another camp week was available ( I gave the exact week I preferred and NEVER said I wouldn't attend the week we were scheduled for, I just would have had to find help getting her to/from camp) and explained my conflict. Kristi took I upon herself to remove my daughter from camp AND gAve away her spot which she had told me 5 days earlier she was holding. She tells me she has another date open that (wasn't even close to the date I'd asked about) and said 'well I've given your daughters spot to someone else' I'm absolutely appalled at this Kristi/owner and her business sense as well as her sensitivity as a person. Behaving in this manner with any customer is reprehensible to me, but one who has called and explained that they have a baby with Cancer and a 6 year old sibling who is also going through hell with it all. To treat a family going through all that the way this woman did is mortifying to me. Her callousness and u professionalism in dealing with my family is by far the rudest and most inhumane treatment I've ever seen in my lifetime. Based on that type of person and personality I would say from the bottom of my heart, steer clear of this stable. Not based even on how they care for horses or the cleanliness of their stables, but for the lack of ethics and professionalism you will be from them. Oh, one last thing. Kristi, that little 6 year old whose heart you broke by giving away her camp spot after telling me it was held for her. She lost her little sister a few weeks later. She'd 26 month old baby sister died just 2 months after you broke her heart by being unprofessional and unethical as a business owner. You should be so, so proud. I hope that other kid, the one you gave her spot to without consulting me, really enjoyed that camp. I hope you're proud of being an unprofessional and unethical business owner. read more

I did not sign a contract, yet left a check with the barn manager to meet with owner upon return of her vacation. They cashed my check for $200. I never signed a contract or boarded with them and they kept my deposit. I have tried to work it out with Kristi, yet she is resistance to "do the right thing", and return a deposit that should have never been cashed with out a contract being signed between two parties. I have spent many, many hours at Standley Lake Stables and can honestly say the owners are extremely caring and the most conscientious you will find anywhere! The stalls are continually cleaned every single day. We have never had any problem with the hay and the horses are consistently well fed. It is sad to see all the negative reviews for Standley Lake Stables, we have never had issues there, always hear great things about the barn from the other barns in the area, all the horses are well taken care of compared to other boarding facilities. In addition, the owners take time to educate and encourage the next generation of equestrians and don't assume because they are young they can't learn. I have seen young riders at Standley Lake Stables out ride some adults that have more opinions then facts about this facility. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! The owners are not horse people, but seem to think they play horse people on TV. They are feeding terrible hay, and horses are losing weight. They don't know what they are doing. They blame everyone else for their woes. They are just not honorable people, even though they seem to be very nice when they first meet you. They are good at ingratiating themselves to you, and if you get the feeling they are too nice to be true, well you got that right. We left suddenly because, as someone in another review mentioned, the owner seems to have different personalities depending on what she wants from you at any give moment. I can tell you that this is a load of bull. Its molding and gross. not to mention the staff forgets to feed and they spend so much babysitting their "precious" hay that no one has enough time to take care of the horses!!!!!! the truth is that all of the horses are losing extreme amounts of weight and we ourselves pulled out ours. some even in the middle of the night! Owners are very nice, but not horse people. Lots of pigeons and pigeon poop. On your tack, in your horse's water, pretty gross and unsanitary. You have to keep all of your tack covered and it still gets dust, dirt and pigeon crap on it. Quality of hay varied. A lot. Owners started graining horses without telling anyone to compensate for lousy hay. There is one trainer on site and that's it. Outside trainers are not allowed. Indoor arena is small, which is fine, but the lesson schedule is never posted so no idea if you are riding in the midst of a lesson or not. Had my tack get used frequently and stuff go missing. Wound up storing anything of value in my car or trailer. Because everything was so haphazard, I wound up checking on my horse daily to make sure everything was ok. The stalls with runs were very nice and the free turnout was a definite bonus. But the barn was always open and it was always extremely cold in there. As I read all the comments for Standley Lake Stables I felt I had to write. Over the last 6 years I have been to a few barns in the area for riding lessons and met Kristi over two years ago when we started training at her barn. From the moment we walked in there were happy horses and people around. Even though we did not board horses at her facility, she was always nice and helpful and took time to answer any questions. After following our trainer when he moved, Kristi still allowed us to come visit her horses anytime we wanted to. I have talked to many of the borders at her barn and have not once heard a complaint. The complaints I do hear about are from boarders at other barns that also complain about where they are currently at. When the time comes for our family to buy a horse Standley Stables will be our first choice. Please take the time to get to know the family and talk to the current boarders before making a decision based on poor reviews. read more
