Doris was fabulous (she gets 5 stars), but Tom? Now Tom would get negative stars...Tom, seemingly, doesn't know jack about the products he sells, or at least, in my case, the tile I purchased from his showroom. Well, he said so when he did my estimate (He'll deny that though). He didn't know what rectified tile meant? Well, TOM , it means that the tiles are machine cut so they all have straight edges versus a tile that is cut by hand!!! (You are welcome). And, Schluter transitions HAVE to go down before the tile, thus the strip is sandwiched between the tile and cement board. It is not to be jammed after the fact (You are welcome again). I have a sneaking suspicion that Tom is not the best communicator either and doesn't want to have to put too much effort into anything.
The installers showed up to do the job and had no idea they had to fix a couple of areas on the floor (after I tore it out). And, they didn't bring all the materials they needed to finish the job! I blame Tom for that. How nice to walk into a job and find out that you have extra stuff to do that you did not anticipate! However, the installers messed up the grout and it never cured. Tom was always willing to fix it, of course, but their fixes were not working (therein lies the problem)..they just slopped more grout on top of grout that never cured.
Well, that second layer did not cure either. Then I started doing my own research (as in calling the grout and tile manufacturers...which one would think that Tom would have done) and telling Tom what I learned about the installation of grout and other things. He said "let me do some research". Let me do some research?!?!? Um? ok. Well, I doubt he ever did his research. In the end, I called the CCB who I would have though would be the experts. Nope! The idiot was asking the installer how to do stuff? Really? You are asking the business person and the contractor who did it incorrectly in the first place????? Bravo CCB.
Never thought I would say this but, I recommend that customers do their own research on flooring installation, what materials should be used, glues, grouts, etc. etc. because they will just slap a Snoopy Band-Aid on stuff without really knowing whether it will work or not! SMDH. read more
