Classic barn made like new My wife and I purchased a home that started its life as a Clydesdale barn in 1918. It was converted to a home many years later. Before moving in we had several projects that we wanted to tackle with refinishing the original hardwood floors being a big one. I've worked in commercial construction as a project manager for many years and was immediately at ease with Bill when he met me at the house to walk and talk through the project. He's confident, professional, and honest. Bill offered insight from experience and value added options rather than simple upsells. We agreed on a schedule, a price, and signed an agreement for the work to be done. All said there was just over 2,450 square feet of number 2 red oak to be refinished. Several areas needed extra attention due to damage from decades of neglect, animal urine, and settling. Bill's guys, like him, were confident, experienced, and highly skilled. They clearly communicated and coordinated with me and knocked out the work quicker than we had planned. The house was finished in a week and half from start to finish. Bill and his team utilize a Swedish finish for the floors they install and refinish. We wanted to brighten the house up and took Bill's advice of a natural (clear) finish. The floors turned out amazing with a slightly warm matte finish. An appreciated suggestion was also the addition of flush mount air vents of the same wood species. They add a beautiful touch and clean up the rooms even further. A word on scheduling...the Swedish finish is incredibly durable and beautiful, but it may be one of the most intense fumes I've ever experienced in construction. Know ahead that being in the house when the finish is applied is an absolute non starter and we would suggest, if you can coordinate it, to plan several days away after the last coat to allow it to safely off gas without being in the home. Bill gave great advice regarding airflow and heat to help encourage it along, but it's a real factor in the process to be aware of. All that said, we would highly recommend Willamette Hardwood Floors for any project you have at hand. Williamette Hardwood Floors won the contract recently for our huge auditorium floor installed in 1984. From the first the detailed bid they submitted was beyond the others, and they called the project manager to answer all of their questions and explain the products that would be used . The work started in schedule without any delays or excuses, the company could not have been more professional or more considerate of our members. The work was quiet and smell-less due to their "state of the art" dust collectors and sanding equipment. The floor couldn't have turned out any more pristine , we couldn't be more pleased. Where do I start... At some point one decides "okay, time to get rid of that carpet and put in some wood floors". And there are so many options these days. Laminate, engineered wood, LVP, wood-look tile, and classic solid hardwood. It turns out that classic solid hardwood is an order of magnitude better than every other option out there. No grooves, no seams. Your floor is just one solid piece of wood. Bill's crew did an AMAZING job. We did 1300 sq feet of 1st grade maple flooring and 16 stairs. The entire job was spectacular. Bill was able to source top quality materials. The planks used were almost all very long with few short ones. We didn't specifically request this, but they were able to install the planks in the same direction throughout the house making it look especially classy. Just wow. wow wow wow wow wow wow wow. These guys are PROFESSIONALS. They clearly did not learn how to do this by watching Youtube videos. We had some difficult spots with levelling, with weird banister placement near the stairs, existing staircase that was not up to code, closets with built-in cabinetry that needed wood underneath.... they did it all. On budget. On time. With professionalism, competitive pricing and true artisanship. And these floors are going to last a long time. Why settle for prefinished planks that leave dirt-collecting grooves on your floors? Solid hardwood is the only way! read more

Bill promised beautiful floors and did not deliver. The areas that he didn't do ie. closets are are smoother and visibly better looking that the areas he did do. His workers were not careful and dripped the water based products all over my freshly painted walls. Their sanding machines left marks on my walls and I had to hire professional cleaners to remove wood chips and dust. When I came to check on the workers a few times no one was at the property, all the lights were on and the door was unlocked. He tried to get paid and the job wasn't even finished. I pointed out that none of the doors had been put back. I only noticed what a truly unprofessional job they did when I moved in. They had not sealed the floors properly. The whole job was a very costly mistake. To top it off, he took the rest of the sealant with him. It was 5 gallons, about 100 dollars a gallon. I needed it to reseal the stairs and he refused to give it back. His attitude was poor and the work was shoddy. I would give no stars if I could. I would never refer him to anyone. read more

I wish I had read the other negative review before recently hiring Willamette Hardwood Floors. Although the quality of work done on our floors was very high and I have no complaints about that, there was/is a trust issue with this company. The schedule started several days later than promised, and the owner and employees were less than truthful about several things during the job. They kept shifting their stories to cover their backsides about what we agreed to. Also, immediately after the job was completed, we discovered something significant in our garage that was (and still is) missing. We had our hardwood floors refinished by Bill and his crew in late September of 2014. Our experience working with Bill was incredibly unpleasant. I wish I would have been privy to the other negative reviews here on this site. To start, Bill stood us up for our initial meeting where he was to come out and measure so he could write up a quote. We waited two weeks for this appointment and we were blown off. When I called to ask why he didn't show up, he told us that he was in the hospital. We felt badly about that so we decided to reschedule and give him a second chance. We regret that very much. Bill was very confrontational on the phone when we would bring up concerns regarding scheduling and the refinishing process. I never felt like I could really express my concerns to him without him arguing with me. We have two dogs and we made it clear that we were concerned about their nails harming the wood floors. Bill assured us that the Swedish polish he would use on our floors could stand up to our dogs. That is not true. It has been only a couple of months and our floors already look worn. There are patches of the floor that don't even have polish on them but Bill is so hard to work with and makes us so uncomfortable that we've chosen to live with it rather than have him back in our home. His crew also heavily damaged our walls with large push pins that they used to hold up plastic barriers. We have lathe and plaster walls and our home was built in 1946 so the repair is not as simple as it would be for a home with drywall. My husband and I continued to find thumb tacks all over the first floor of our home, which was a hazard to us and our pets. We have had three neighbors tell us that they are in the market to have their hardwood floors throughout their homes redone and we have told them all to stay far away from Willamette Hardwood Floors because of the experience we had. To top off our experience, Bill requested that we pay for his services in cash which both my husband and I thought to be incredibly sketchy. We assume he just won't claim that money come tax time. He also failed to return our house key in a timely manner. I am a proponent of small business and wouldn't write a review like this unless I felt strongly that this should be available for anyone considering working with Bill.
