THe place is shotty, I don't like their meat quality here. I like to come here for vegetables and such. The service could be a lot better. People are friendly. The place has easy parking and such so thats never an issue. I just threw out a lot of meat I recently bought from the place that was quite expensive. read more

Different kind of supermarket....just stopped in for some necessaries so this'll be a brief review with initial observations. Very clean - well lit - well organized and marked aisles and super spacious. If you hate squeezing past other shoppers in tight quarters you'll be happy here. Produce section was big and plentiful-- everything looked good but I was very disappointed to again see that they are trying to pass off South American sweet onion as Vidalias! This is a disgraceful deception and an automatic loss of a star. So on to the "Meat and Dairy department" which is unlike any other supermarket. It's an entire gigantic refrigerated room. You're actually in a giant fridge. Staggering quantities of meat and seafood here, plus your prepackaged cold cuts, kielbasa, salami. Dairy selection was kind of skimpy. No milk in quarts available. They have some good international food options in the aisles, including Italian goods. Nice big deli counter and bakery with breads and rolls galore. Overall pricing on the non-meat items we picked was average, certainly not 'warehouse pricing.' Nothing was outrageous but neither were they bargains. Perhaps the big savings they tout are found in the meats. I foresee another visit to check out the store in more detail. read more

I had the most amazing experience at the Mineola Western Beef Deli department I haven't been to a Western Beef in over 20 years and was shocked to hear there was one in Mineola I was up from Florida to visit relatives in bethpage and stopped in the Deli to get some cold cuts to bring there was a guy named Ricky I asked for his name he was so sweet and helpful smiling, joking just amazing he made me sample the cuts and taste of each order I placed he also placed paper between each layer of the cheese for easy separation. I was just so amazed at the time and talent he had Wish there was more workers like him I will definitely be back to see Ricky before I head back to Florida.. read more

Western beef has a lot to offer. The bakery section has the best fresh rolls/bread. They have a meat and dairy section (dairy aspect is kind of lacking) that is separated by automatic doors and is like a walk in freezer. They have a lot of ethnic foods whether it be meat or other, which is cool. Being that this location is in mineola (big Portuguese population) there is a lot of Spanish foods. I always find things I never see at other supermarkets like variations of usual items and I want to buy everything. It's not very big so it doesn't have as much as other supermarkets, but it really has great stuff. Also - they have an interesting array of alcoholic beverages which makes me eager to try new things, again, different things from familiar brands that I haven't seen in other stores. My only complaints are that it doesn't come off as the cleanest supermarket, I don't love their produce section, and they never seem to have enough registers open. read more

Western Beef is the place to go when you're looking to save some money on purchases of large quantities of meat. All their meats (in the GIANT walk in refrigerator) are available in bulk and their butchers will trim them down to [your specific] size (at no extra cost, of course.) A little tip in the jar goes a long way. They sell Boars Head meats and cheese as well as their own brands at the deli counter at competitive pricing. Right next to the Deli are their homemade breads which are excellent. The have a big produce area with many hard to find fruits and vegetables, it's nice but I have never been overly impressed with the quality. The service team throughout the store is very friendly, but most speak only Spanish (which I can't.). When I find someone who understands what I am looking for they have never hesitated to bring me right to the area. They will not replace a Stop & Shop or Waldbaums but it's convenient and a local shop which I try to patronize as much as I can. read more

Compared to all the other western beefs I have been to, this is the best location. This location is clean, well kept and has a big parking lot. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for cheap meats and good prices. The parking lot is spacious and the staff is nice. They accept WIC which is helpful for mothers. This place is good for vegetables but avoid buying meat there unless you plan to make it the same day. I bought some cryopacked spare ribs that had a sell by day of 8/22. Brought them home placed them in my refrigerator as I planned to cook them on 19th when I opened them they smelled worse than death. I brought them back and was told I had to return them 24 hours after I bought them by the store manager in order to get a refund. So No refund was issued I am sure there were more on the shelf that said sell by 8/22. read more

Useless. Walked into the huge cold room where many packs of met are kept. There's even a butcher! However, the packs are about 5lbs or more, and I need a 1 lb piece. I ask the butcher to cut me a piece of around 1 lb, but he can't (not allowed lol). He shows me thin slices of ready cut meat, not what I wanted. read more

Prices are great, as always. I like this location better than the Flushing location. It's much cleaner and not as busy. Better parking situation, too. I loved the sales prices. It was better than buying in bulk at a wholesale store. The reason why I gave it 4 stars is because the butcher in the back room doesn't deal with customers very well. Comes off as a complete asshole. He is working in the back doing his thing...I get it. But he knows he works at a place where there are CUSTOMERS. He must know people will have questions. So why be so rude? After a while, he became nicer, but why put someone in an uncomfortable position? We felt like we had to earn his respect before asking him a question. He didn't even move from his spot to speak with us. He just yelled from all the way back there. It was hard to hear since we were in a huge fridge. I didn't like that. Give me a break. Other than that...I will be going there more often. read more

Need better staff. I went to WB to get turkey wings a couple of weeks ago and I asked a worker in the meat area where can I find the turkey wings? He points to an area with a nasty attitude. And it wasn't even in that area. Very unprofessional. Maybe he couldn't speak english well or whatever, you should have common customer care skills. So now when I go there I just look for things on my own. Mostly I just go to BJ's now anyway. Staff is much nicer there. read more

A great big supermarket and of course butcher shop featuring lower end cuts, no prime here, but overall good quality meat. Huge fruit and veg section, but the best kept secret.....Nassau County's best fried chicken!! Yup, at the deli counter, get there early because it goes fast! read more

How in Jesus' name is this place still open? Everything is spoiled, old, rotten and just BAD. I shopped here on recommendarion of my husband who used to come here when he was a kid. Guess what honey? It's not like it was 30 years ago, I'm sure. The raviolis in the freezer were so freezer burned it was covered in ice. The cheese in the meat locker was green and moldy. All the dates on everything were either coming up real soon on being expired or it was expired already. How is this place even real? I'll never come back ever again. read more

Tried a Deli potato salad once it tasted sour. I thought might be my taste buds being off that day.The lady behind the deli counter stated that it usually is sour. Not sure what that meant, but to me it was obviously spoiled and she didn't even bother taking it out to replace it. I feel that the deli products are all spoiled. Was in the area and decided to check the place out. Shopping score was Seville oranges that I needed for a marinade recipe, and soda from Brasil that I really dig. After visiting a few, I can say that every Western Beef is a little different from the other. Most of it has to do with the fact that their stock reflects the ethnic groups of the neighborhood and the people who patronize the store. As a result, even though the West Hempstead location is much cleaner and more efficiently run, they don't have all the same Italian and Portuguese products that are always available in Mineola. I primarily come here for the deal on cold cuts and basic groceries. They have an amazing selection, hard to find things, and usually a good sale. Produce is buy at your own risk. Their meat is a lot to handle. Literally. I can't bring myself to purchase the 12 lb. large plastic bags of chicken, however their red meats are more reasonably sized and flavorful. For seafood, WH has them beat. I've never had a problem with the staff. The layout is extremely confusing with bread hiding on one side, then popcorn, snacks and random beer in another corner, which I think throws people off and then in turn they get an attitude with the floorpeople, of which there are very few. When you need a big cut of meat at a good price, this is the place to go. They will butcher the meat you choose if its large and you don't want to. They even have lamb ribs( Not lamb chops that you see every where). Lamb spare ribs are really hard to find and my family love just putting them in oven and roasting with just salt. The bread from the bakery is also great. The prices are amazing. They have a large Ethinc selection of food thru out the store. The parking lot is very large. This place is right of Old country road. Western Beef is praised because you can buy large quantities of meats. BUT you have to know what you are buying. For example, the large roasts for roast beef are often quite tough. The steaks like rib eye (come bone in and boneless) are a much better buy. They sell the unusual stuff like whole baby pigs and goats as well. Their whole chickens often have feathers on them still. They are best for rib eyes, porterhouse, skirt steak, etc. Go elsewhere for chicken. Produce is all piled into a long chilled case. There are better places for produce in the neighborhood like H Mart (a Korean grocery) about a mile from there. Don't ask for help-the place caters to the Portugese and no one speaks English. Many brands of canned goods sold are not in English as well. That said, they have a fabulous bakery with at least 20 different kinds of breads-many of them still warm when you buy them. Pastries as well. And Boar's Head is sold at the deli counter. read more

The meat section gets 4 stars, but grab some extra bags when you buy the bags of chicken because they leak everywhere. The produce section is not good, nothing ever seems fresh. After several purchases of their produce, I will never buy anything else except the bags of salad. The deli section is pricey and I have bought several salads that were bad. My most recent was some chicken salad and potato salad I bought a week ago that was rancid. Their prices are higher than stop and shop, but they provide a convenience of being a local grocery store that doesn't require you to maneuver old country road. I go there to pickup an item or two, or to visit their meat section, and but never for major grocery shopping. For that, I go to super stop & shop. read more

Not sure if there is new management or they are just making some changes but western beef is better than ever. They have added a lot Of new products and have Improved on the quality. They continue to provide great prices and a variety of products. The employees also have a more respectful and kind demeanor. I used to not like going here but with these new changes, western beef is one of my favorite neighborhood supermarkets. read more

Tried Western Beef in Mineola today for the first time, and last time! I got what they called filet mignon, opened it up, and it smelled like death. I mean I had to turn the A/C up full blast and throw it into a bag, and then put it outside my house. The stench filled up the whole first floor of my house. It was rancid. Would never ever purchase meat here again. I Called and they told me I had to bring the meat back with the receipt. Sealed it in two bags, so it wouldn't infect my car. I brought the meat back to them, and they gave me a quick refund, no problem. read more
