2/13 Although I've shopped at Western Beef several times, it's not my go to. I'm just realizing that I deprived my self of awesome value and savings. I went in to pick up honey, ketchup, and Grits. I actually scored with a tremendous 2 for $6, saving myself $1 compare to S&S. I was able to pick up some plums. I've been looking for plums for quite some time. The staff did go above and beyond with customer service delivery. I asked to see strainers because I couldn't find them, the stock clerk actually walked me over to were the strainers and kitchenware was located and told me where I could find more strainers if that's not what I was looking for. THE MERCHANDISER** I am always excited to see a well merchandised store. I had to stop and tell the merchandiser/ stock clerk/ silent sales person, how good of a job he was doing even if he never hear it again. He thanked me! He maximizes sales by managing product display and ensuring that shelves are fully stocked. If the shelves aren't fully stocked the merchandiser will use the fronting method and facing technique. That's when you walk in the grocery store in this instance and see the product pulled to the front of the shelves, squared to make the shelf look full and the product is properly faced so you see the front of the product and not the side or the back of the product. See pics! I'm considering to start shopping at Western Beef more often and I do find it interesting how they have a walk-in freezer where you'd find meats. They have a pretty good size parking lot and there other stores and restaurants in really close by. Oh, and the cashier was phenomenal! Inspire more, Yelp more! read more

Alot of bad reviews, I noticed, but I never had any issues when shopping here. They did reorganize the store in the last couple of years (it looks much better than before). When I do shop here, it's only for a couple of items. The ladies at the deli are always nice and friendly around Easter. I always put in my order for pernil. It tastes great cooked well. read more

Horrible customer service. Cashier Bryan was possibly theee most unhelpful, unfriendly, and disrespectful cashier you could've had. Most of the cashier's are unfriendly here and they need to reevaluate their hiring process. Wouldn't recommend anybody else from shopping at this location! read more

I just saw the "new" deli section at this store. No more humans (not that it was easy to find one to place your order before), just all pre-cut, pre-packed everything. If I'm going to pay $10 a pound for Boars Head, I want it sliced fresh and the way I like it, not covered up in some plastic bag, take it or leave it. I have no faith that the cole slaw or other salads are actually fresh or how long they've bee sitting in those cups. works for the store, fewer employees to actually pay (not that you can find one when you need one anyway). From now on, I'll drive farther to get what I want, and this place will only be for the occasional item or if I forgot an onion. Too bad, it was convenient. read more

Pros: Nice door staff. Cons: Cashiers steal (approx 40% will rip you off). Some stealing of customer money occurs here. Again recently, a cashier overcharged me and billed me for items that I didn't even buy (possibly to justify the overcharge). Watch out if you shop at their 301 Morris Avenue, Bronx, NY location. Check your receipt, check the purchased items in your cart, and have your total before you go up. It seems that someone in management also has to be involved in the crime in order for several cashiers to steal on a consistent basis. The corporate office doesn't seem to care about complaints. I'll be taking my money to Costco in Spanish Harlem. They treat you well, and the prices are always better. It's just a bit of a longer trip, but just like I left BJs (the Bronx location is worse than Western Beef), Costco is a 100% amazing experience (long lines, but I'd rather deal with long lines than thieves, rude people, at BJs and Western Beef. read more

This is a good supermarket. They have a variety of products from the world, and they have the lowest prices of supermarkets in the neighborhood. If there is any problem, there are the manager assistants that help you to correct any problem with the prices. This is a procedure that happens every supermarket. I am their customer since the 90's when I used to live in Flushing. More over check their flyer, and you can save even more money every week. read more

I come here to do my grocery shopping because of the good prices. I can do a big compra here for a decent price. They have a great selection of meats and brands of food. They have a lot of cultural items if you are hispanic or Caribbean. Pretty spacious parking lot and lines aren't too long. I would recommend this supermarket if you want to buy things on a budget. However, they should have some cleaning the shopping carts especially due to the pandemic. read more

Do Not Shop Here. Extremely unsanitary conditions I used to work as a vendor (not going to name the company i worked for) and I visited probably over 500 grocery stores in total while working that job. This grocery store was by far the most disgusting. It started with noticing a foul smell while i was still out on the sales floor. Once i entered the back room, that smell became overpowering and i recognized it as the smell of raw sewage. Once i then descended to the back stock storage basement, i could clearly see what was happening. Raw sewage was poring into one section of the basement and some buckets had been set up in an attempt to hold as much as possible. All of this just feet away from product which will eventually be for sale. Like i said, I've been to many many grocery stores. Most of their backroom storage areas have a certain smell (things spill on the floor, the remnants rot, it's very common) but this one was unlike anything I've seen. read more

I was very disappointed with quality of the meats at this location. I went for turkey wings, found them frozen and humongous. I know that turkeys are a large bird; however I was disappointed at the size. Then I go to the fish department, I'm excited the fish looked good the eyes were clear and the flesh wasn't to mussy. The worker cleaned the fish of course behind a wall that doesn't allow the customer to see the fish while cleaning. (BAD POLICY) I'm yearning for some fried fish and grits. Closest grocery spot to my place. Affordable and clean, there's not much more to ask. It is located in a plaza with food stores, hair supplies, etc etc...good mix(hair supply store has some great finds) Carts are stored in a weird outdoor location, so pick them up before entering the store....go figure. This is my local grocery store, and everyone else in Elmont. This place is always crowded. It's so annoying and sometimes the express line is not open. They have a whole new meat market/freezer area now. I like that I am able to find a lot of Caribbean ingredients and also fresh vegetables and seafood (none of that stuff that's only in packages). There's a fresh bakery where you can get cakes and pastries. Sometimes there are rotisserie chickens for $5 or mixed pieces of friend chicken for $5. There is always a deal going on. OMG OMG OMG! I can't wait to go back!!!! You have to understand, that from the viewpoint of a BBQ grill-master, such as myself, this place is kind of like the holy grail! Forget about the huge supermarket area that houses an gigantic produce section, and a bakery section and a fish section, and a Goya section that rivals the Goya factory. I want to talk about the meat section. Located at the far end of the store, their butcher section is larger than most local supermarkets. Upon entering you are greeted by a beautiful suckling pic hanging from its hind quarters. Upon further entrance, there are 5 aisles each housing all different cuts and kinds of meat. Beef is first to greet you. A whole aisle full of steaks, short ribs, ground meat, flanks, tenderloins, loins, shanks, rounds and tongue. Pork is the next aisle. ribs, shoulders, butts, feet, hocks, bacon and sausage. Chicken and turkey, whole, ground, legs, thighs, feet, breasts, and sausage too! The prices are ridiculously low and the have fast turnover, so all the meat is fresh! Don;t see what you want, no worries. My favorite super market since I was a kid ! The meat dept is huge ! It's the only market I know left that you still walk into a freezer full of meats . During the summer this is the place to shop to get your steaks ,burgers and everything you need for a good ol BBQ with family . I went to this store this past weekend with some friends. I was so amazed by this store, not because it was just that amazing but because it was like Club Grocery Store with a DJ in the produce section. Yes, you read that correctly- a DJ in the produce section. I understand from my friends that brought me that this is a Saturday special, but it definitely made the store stand out in my mind. The selection is pretty good and the store itself is fairly big. I was very impressed with the prices- very. Actually if this store wasn't so far from my house, I would probably start doing my regular shopping here. read more

I hated this place as a kid. It used to be really gross. You used to look down and see blood from the freezer/butcher section. Now it's much better. But still not the greatest. They have good deals sometimes, make sure you pick up the flyer when you walk in. My favourite part about this place is the bakery. Their fresh italian bread is GREAT! If you can pick some up RIGHT when it comes out the oven it's amazing. It's cheap too! read more

The lines are slow. I would shop western beef more often, but the lines are the slowest. And the parking lot, in front is a nightmare.

The fish section needs to be monitor. This is the second time that I bought fish and shrimp. The first time I bought fish it was so bad (smell) that I had to throw it away. Yesterday I bought shrimp and you can tell it was sitting there for a long time. The shells was paste on not crispe coming off. Will not buy fish from there again. I wasted my money. read more

Western Beef has potential because it's the best place for Caribbean produce and spices. They have it all. Stuff you would not find in Pathmark or King Kullen. I also like that they have a huge meat section with a butcher. You can request to have your meat cut to your liking or request a specific cut if it's not on the shelves. The prices are fair (unless you prefer bulk, for that go to Costco. Prices are better) Unfortunately the place is filthy! Some days it smells really bad. This store smells. They have poor quality of meat that doesn't taste or smell fresh. The workers are not approachable and rude. I prefer keyfood or stop and shop, better selection and store is more appealing. Also doing sandy storm, they raised the price on non perishable foods. read more

The BREAD......fresh bread every morning is the sole reason for reviewing this market. The bread comes out fresh and warm and is simply irresistible. Coupled with the BOAR's HEAD cold cuts and a sandwich is in order when I get home. Like the fact that they have a walk-in refrigerator to escape the heat in the summer....and too keep the stock of meat fresh too comes in handy . Not too fond of the short lady with glasses who appears to be a manager/owner of some sort, who looks at everyone as if they are suspicious! So annoying. I've seen her challenge customers at least twice....neither time finding the poor customer on line hiding anything.....really lady, find a good book to read somewhere instead of playing store detective. . Especially after I left the store without my cold cuts one day, I returned and basically felt like I was scamming her for a POUND of ham....ham really, maybe some roast beef or expensive but ham???? read more

I've been to this store often to redeem my WIC checks but tonight I was denied by front manager Vera and manager George although I assured them I got the items before on WIC at this very same location. Vera asked me what was the name of the person who allowed me to get it and how did they look. I felt like I was being interrogated, when she called George he immediately said NO. George and I went over to a list posted and he didn't even have the decency to read it, he simply said we don't take it and went on about his work. I felt really embarrassed. After being a customer of Western Beef for so long I felt this was definetly not good customer service and belittled by the staff. Please fix this issue. read more

I purchase 2 grapefruits at .99 each the cashier over charges me she did $2.58 for both, I asked the manager for help he told me to wait I stood there while he was cashing customers he did five customers and keep ignoring me, the person who did my over charge would not give me his name, I took his picture and left the store without receiving my refund, is this the way your manager treat their customers read more
