I calmly asked why that applied to service dogs, and she couldn't give me any explanation at all. Within the first two minutes, I decided it was best to leave and told her there was no need to be rude -- we were already heading out. She then followed us all the way to the door, continuing to confront and harass us even as we were leaving. For clarity: service dogs are legally allowed in all public-facing businesses in New York, including orchards, farms, grocery stores, and any place open to the public. This is protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and New York Civil Rights Law §47. Businesses may only ask two questions and cannot deny access, demand paperwork, or enforce "no pets" rules on service dogs. Here is the official ADA guidance on service animals: https://www.ada.gov/resources/service-animals/ I hope this location takes the time to properly train staff, because what happened today was not acceptable and absolutely not legal.
