It's a very pungent smell. I remember watching the Food Network one day & I will never forget this message from a food scientist. "A fish store should never smell like fish". When you think about it, it makes absolutely sense. Once you smell fish that means it's no longer fresh. I also know this to be true because a place I go to for my steam fish has NEVER smelled like fish when you walk in. I have no idea how shoppers deal with that smell. The smell from this fish store almost took my breath away.
