It's a very pungent smell. I remember watching the Food Network one day & I will never forget this message from a food scientist. "A fish store should never smell like fish". When you think about it, it makes absolutely sense. Once you smell fish that means it's no longer fresh. I also know this to be true because a place I go to for my steam fish has NEVER smelled like fish when you walk in. I have no idea how shoppers deal with that smell. Like other markets in the area, they carry lots of Guyanese products alongside other ethnic grocery products. They have a meat area and a seafood area. I've not tried either yet but I see people constantly there buying so it must be good. There are deals to be had here. If you're looking for Five Roses flour in bulk, they have it. If you're looking for Guyanese rice, as well as other bulk rice packages, they have it. The staff is customer friendly enough. Some of the cashiers are quite nice and take the time to say hello to my kid and that always scores points with me. I've shopped here maybe 4 times since they've opened and it's a good market. It's as good as any of the other ethnic markets in the neighborhood but with that added bonus that it's super close to home. Normally, if I want to buy lots of fruit, I have to go down to Lefferts and Liberty - but not anymore. Definitely give these people a try. The service will be practically the same as the service you receive at all the other markets. You'll have good with the bad, but that's normal. So far, it's been good. Check them out.

An employee (female 65 year old) relavitively new, came from behind the counter and approached me in an intimidating confrontational manner to take my purchases because I took too long to pay, ‍. She generally issues commands to customers from behind the counter but this is a first. The employee brushed against me and was intimidating creating a situation that could have escalate into physical violence. I'm not short or weak and that was pretty daring. As a customer, I found this treatment unacceptable. Customers should be able to conduct business without being subjected to intimidating or threatening behavior by incompetent hires. She's been there a few months and I'm sure I'm not the only one experiencing this . Most disturbing is that the business, while profiting, cares very little how customers are treated. After the incident, I attempted to contact the business at 347-238-1081 so that I could speak with a manager or the person responsible for the business and address the situation directly. They're never there, I was told, and it's no wonder. I was unable to connect with a manager or responsible person, and the call ended with the other party hanging up after hearing the complaint, probably already aware it's been happening. I called the business back afterward, but my call was not answered. I am requesting that the business investigate this incident, preserve and review any available security camera footage from approximately 12:39 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., on Oct. 2, 2026 and provide a response regarding how this treatment of a customer will be addressed. I left my number with the male employee. I am filing this complaint until I receive such response, to create a formal record of the incident and to seek accountability concerning the threatening and intimidating behavior. If you can afford to offend and and allow your associates to challenge customers who spend their hard earn money in your establishment, while your fish remains unsold, you should not be in business and should allow other more capable business owners to serve the neighborhood. We don't need to be threatened in our own community. The next person may not show restraint.
