We hired Western Awning due to its raving reviews. There were a few hiccups along the way and with the recent storms we've had, it left our shades in pretty bad shape. However, Guy and his crew came by each time we had a problem and quickly rectified the issue. We are hoping that this will be the last time they would need to come back for these shades (until we need to hire them again for another project). Thank you Guy and crew!

They helped pick styles and colors, created some custom bracket systems, and added some bonus features to make sure everything was as fitting as intended. I wish that every company with which we have dealt over the past 16 years of living on the Peninsula were as skilled at what they are doing, were able to complete jobs as timely and with a over the top friendly attitude, and as responsive to questions and concerns as Western Awnings. Guy and his team did a fabulous job of creating a new awning for my business. The previous awning was old and outdated. I had been wanting a new awning ever since I had taken over the business a year and a half ago. I got several appraisals but I could never fully commit to a design. Guy had some great ideas for a great price too. My new awning looks so lovely now! He even completed it sooner than he quoted. This review is long overdue! Adding an awning to our backyard was one of the best improvements that we did to the house, and my husband and I are so happy that we went with Western Awning. First of all, when shopping for an installer, I met with several companies and Guy from Western Awning was the only one who came up with a creative solution to our needs. Usually awnings need a flat wall to attach it to, and our wall had a retractable ladder in the middle of the wall. Everyone else said they couldn't do it since the entire wall had to be flat. Guy was the only one who thought about it and came back and suggested a combination of both permanent and retractable fixtures. Plus, his price was very reasonable since I was able to compare it with the other proposals. Guy installed it within a day. Great quality on the installation, he was very thorough and meticulous with everything. Now our backyard looks even bigger since the awning has created an outdoor living space that we can hang out in rain or shine. Even our doggies love it! Thanks so much, Guy! I was very pleased with my canvas awning installation from Western Awnings. I needed 2 simple door overhangs to be built and contractor quotes came in at almost $9k. Going with Sunbrella fabric instead, Guy and his crew were able to do it for well under one-fifth the cost. His prices were competitve, although not the cheapest. Ultimately, I went with him because he seemed very conscientious about doing a good job and was accommodating to all my specifications. Everything went on budget even ahead of schedule with a rainy day install. This is a business that under-promises and over-delivers. read more

Long overdue Review. I had 2 very large custom automated awnings installed at our home by Guy (Owner) and his crew 3 years ago. I would highly recommend their company. Guy is very professional, personable and reliable. His pricing is reasonable and competitive however his customer service is priceless from the point of installation to followup service calls and requests. We live on top of a hillside on the Peninsula and get plenty of direct sun on the back of our house in the afternoons and until sunset. The awnings allow our family to enjoy our outdoor space even more by being able to sit out in the afternoons and enjoy some shade while being surrounded by the basking sun. We have Somfy remote controls for our awnings and also had a wind sensor installed by Guy and his team. Their awnings are well worth the price if you live in the Bay Area and and want to enjoy your outdoor space even in the hottest of days. I know Guy does both Commercial and Residential work and I would highly recommend if you are looking for custom awnings. read more

This review covers both the quality of the finished product and the professional way in which Guy Limson runs his business. I contacted the bigger companies listed on Yelp first, only because they appear earlier in the Yelp listings. None of them was interested in doing a small job. During this time, the company was sold to new ownership and we were not notified of the transition. Their office location closed and their main phone number was disconnected, which initially led us to believe the company had shut down after collecting our deposit. After considerable effort, I was able to track down a number for one of their project managers (Doug), who was helpful and put me in touch with the new owner. The new owner was apologetic for the delay and assured us the permits would be submitted last week. Since then, I have followed up three separate times and have not received confirmation that the permits have been submitted or any clear update on next steps. For any business, exterior signage is critical for visibility. A four-month delay after a $7,000 deposit, combined with nonexistent communication, has been extremely frustrating. I genuinely hope to update this review with a positive follow-up stating that the project was completed and commitments were honored. I would gladly revise this review if the situation is resolved promptly. At this time, however, we are still waiting for meaningful progress.

I recently had to get some warranty work done on my ID.4 as the back window started "rippling" and distorting after only a couple of years, making rearview mirror images harder to see. Gena was able to get the work approved under warranty (it was an adhesive defect), made an appointment and brought the car in and the work was done in about an hour -- I can see clearly out the back window again. I will continue to go to Grizzly Tint with all my future vehicle acquisitions in the future....the best window tinting service in the Bay!

It's with a heavy heart I write this review: I tried several times to reach Guy and Western Awning of Colma before this post- to no avail. The price was right for the awning I received, seemed a bargain. But there were a few problems. First the material was cut to small. Guy caught the problem and quickly came back with the replacement... that was before I had payed him in full. By the time he returned his hardware installation tilted- 4 inches. My contractor did the flashing himself worried about water getting into the stucco. Guy seemed grateful for the courtesy and quickly fixed the tilt. I payed him the remainder of the balance. And off he went. The tilt is back after a few weeks... and Guy has disappeared, gone dark. Does not return any phone calls/texts. None of the business numbers respond. So, if this awning fails my only option is legally through small claims court. Sad thought. read more

Gary installed my window coverings…read more Unfortunately when I had to request a warranty repair, it was a complete s--- show. I think I averaged 4 attempts/follow ups spread across 1 month to contact Gary to every single response I received, half of which were just restating my problem and not actually addressing it. Also it took 4 visits (which meant over 20 attempts to get in touch) and over 1 year to actually get him to come to visit to do any warranty repairs, and when he finally did come, he was unable to deliver part of the warranty repairs that I reminded him about at each attempt to contact him. All he offered was "I'm sorry but I'm retiring soon." So sure, go ahead with Gary if you want blinds installed. Be prepared to wait, and wait ... And wait , then wait some more if you need any service on his installations.

It seems like you will have a positive experience with McWherter Window Coverings if all of the…read morefollowing criteria are met: 1) you reach Gary, the owner, on the first attempt at calling, 2) you are fine with months delay in receiving your blinds, and 3) there is no problem with your order whatsoever. When we met Gary a year ago to order an initial set of Hunter-Douglas blinds, he was great. He came out, did measurements, provided samples, and we placed an order. The problem came when one of the blinds arrived after our initial order. After he installed all the blinds from our initial order, he did not want to come out again to install the last one. I called him a few times without receiving a response. Finally, he E-mailed me a YouTube video for self-installation. I paid for full installation and it seemed like Gary did not want to come out to install just one extra blind. A year later, this year, we decided to order a few more blinds and wanted to give Gary another chance. The communication took multiple back-and-forth, mostly me having to follow up over E-mail or phone every couple of days to make sure that he was actually doing his job. Finally, after installation, I noticed two of the blinds had a 1" gap next to the window. I explained to Gary that these two blinds did not cover the windows completely. He agreed to not charge me for those two blinds, which I appreciated, but wished he had communicated the right sizes to me in the first place. After all that, we noticed more blinds retract and do not cover the window in its entirety on the bottom. Gary reassured me that his son, Tyler, can look at it. Tyler came out and had no idea this was a problem. He attempted to address the problem by calling Hunter-Douglas. Hunter-Douglas told him he needs to order weights for the blinds, which he said he would. However, after two weeks, I still have not heard anything. I E-mailed Gary. Did not get a response. I E-mailed Gary again. Got the response "I'll let you know." I was not confident that he will let me know without me having to constantly police him about the order. *Two months* later, he returned to my home with the weights that he supposedly ordered, and it turned out they were the wrong weights! Then of course he gave me the "I'll call you Monday to follow-up" and never did. I have spent thousands of dollars on new blinds from McWherter Window Coverings and they are defective without any resolution so far. I have had surgeries that were faster and easier than this. 1 star off: slow as molasses 1 star off: poor craftsmanship 1 star off: lack of communication 1 star off: lack of adequate follow-up Please read some of the filtered reviews for McWherter Window Coverings, which also mention similar problems above.
