I love strolling this urban village in Uptown Dallas. Amazing art murals commissioned everywhere. Clean, well maintained, and, the area feels-safe. There are plenty of fun eateries to choose from, including special sushi hand rolls, burgers, pizzas, tacos, french pastries, and, chocolate desserts. A variety of boutiques of jewelry to clothing and services of cycling studio to spas. Welcome to all yet very much targeted to young professionals. Though vibrant, crowded it is with beautiful nights for there are so many lovely patios to hangout. A choice of going to the movie theatre then instead. CHEERS! read more

Had an employment interview with Allen Edmonds in the shopping center. Having never been here before, I actually had an easy time finding West Village. In addition, parking was a breeze since everything was marked and well laid out. The cherry on the sundae was walking out of the parking garage to find my destination literally across the street. Once the interview was over, I did walk around for a bit simply to see what was out here. Seems like a great place to shop with all the stores a person would need. Don't pass by the opportunity to shop here at least once. read more

A GREAT place to hang out ANY day of the week! You've got your shopping, dining, apartment living, it's like your modern One Stop Shop for any and everything. The cool and comfortable thing about this area is you can park and walk everywhere. FREE parking at that, unless you wanna be fancy shmancy and valet LoL The Springs & Summers in this area are full of fun, energy, people everywhere, music, just boomin'...social scene on point! One of my favorite places is Mi Cocina. Their patio is the perfect spot to sip on a margarita, their Mambo Taxi specifically, nibble on chips and salsa and enjoy a beautiful day or evening with friends or family. You are just slightly north of downtown Dallas and there are major roads that you can escape quickly. There is the McKinney Avenue Transit Authority / the Uptown trolley that is a free ride through Uptown to downtown Dallas (but they accept tips). The trolley is slow, but free, and fun to check out the area! The rail goes around West Village, so there is many spots to hop on board, but it's only at certain spots that are clearly marked. If your'e trying to get healthy, here is a great place to start! Lot's of fun restaurants that have healthy options. Plenty of running parks and trails right around the corner, like the Katy Trail. A large set of tennis courts a couple of blocks away! Their movie theater shows top shows, not just the advertised, but the more educational / artistic films. Has great little hidden bar, where you can take your drinks inside, perfect for a fun date! Take note guys, a fun little night out with your female friend here can go a long way! In the center of the West Village is a great little parking garage that must go up at least 6 or seven floors! To note also, they have a constant security team helping out here looking out for you! If you feel unsafe, just tell one of the many store employees and they will be more than happy to get you an escort to walk you to your car or building entrance with in the West Village. I love, love, love West Village. It's arguably one of my favorite places in town to spend an afternoon. Maybe I'm partial because I live nearby. Maybe it's because once you run through the middle of West Village in the skimpiest PJs you own with no shoes on chasing after a dog that got loose on a Friday night, you're suddenly no stranger to the area. True story. Ask me about it some time. Sure, there are some (excuse my language) douchey bars and restaurants there, but there's also some great shopping, food and personal services to be had. Personally, I like shopping at Banana Republic and Gap, so it fits me well. But I also enjoy the locally owned places too, like Accents, Adikt and Trousseau. If all that shopping has me exhausted, I'll hop over to Spa Habitat for one of the most awesome massages evah; or over to Cork for a while to taste all their great picks. Quite honestly, I love the food at MiCo and Taco Diner. Plus, the people watching is second to none. I tend to stray away from WV on the weekends, but during the week it's not as packed and you can sit down for a tasty lunch or dinner. The Fish is also another favorite of mine. And nothing beats watching the game on a warm Sunday afternoon on Uptown Pub's patio. I think Uptown and WV gets a bad rap sometimes for being too douchey. Like I said, it can be that way... not arguing that. But I like to look past the Range Rovers and Diesel jeans, to the more comfortable WV. read more

The West Village really bothers me for some reason. I like the idea of it, but it's just one of those things that make me think "This is how Dallas is different than other places I've lived...in the bad way." Dallas doesn't really have an urban center for shopping, theatre, etc. So instead, we have these little "villages" like West Village in Dallas or Shops at Legacy out in Plain-Oh. These "villages" have it all, really: Indie Movie houses (The Magnolia), Overpriced Margaritas (Mi Cocina), Wine Bar (Cru), Kitschy Store That You Can Get Cleverly Embroidered Pillows or a Hookah Pipe (Legacy Trading), Chains (Gap, Banana, Lucky) and the best of the best: The most Bentleys, Mercedes, Mazeratis you'll see in one spot. It, like Ghost Bar, is just one of those places that ooze silicone fakeness, tucked into well-tailored shirts. I go here. The Magnolia happens to be a great theatre and shows stuff you can't see elsewhere in Dallas. It just feels so homogenous in that center. Everything is so planned and unspontaneous. It's like they've sucked the spice out of life by trying to put spice in the city. Dallas is a great town, but these places leave it a bit flat. read more

Catch the trolley to this spot as you'll have trouble parking your roadster. There are few stores worth mentioning: Lucky Brand, take a bow! Cru wine bar and the Magnolia Theater are other bright spots, however, West Village underwhelms in ambiance, and overwhelms with tacky wannabees, fashion victims, and atrocious parking. Having said that... its our own little yuppie Disneyland here in a town where reality is overrated. Good restaurants, if not overpriced and sort of chainy. $8 ice cream i.e gelato.. hello???? But we have a great movie theatre, Starbucks, a few shopping options, and a safe environment ( I appreciate the overly nosy security). Once you learn the ropes, its all good. Dont spring for the valet at Mi Cocina... they just take it to the garage across the street where you could park for free. When I moved here from San Fran I didnt have a car for a month, and this place saved me as a nice enviro to enjoy without having to walk thru a scary neighborhood. No one comes to Dallas for authentic... they want scrubbed up and upscale... and West Village delivers, along with a few "fringy" places if you are so inclined (See The Smoking Loon) P.S. Sometimes a guy is pleasantly surprised.... was gifted by a lovely lady recently on a Thursday night who literally lifted her dress to show her uncovered parts as we walked by.... when I looked back to exclaim "Damn.. Tom C. nailed it: "Yuppie Disneyland". Or, "Douchebag Central" depending upon how you feel about the soul-sucking irony of conspicuous consumption and the stereotype it perpetuates. West Village is little more than a fantasy land for young first-time professionals to feel as though they have arrived at the top of a tiny, boring food chain of sameness. The area is blanketed with expensive shops and overpriced restaurants in which everyone holds the sacred belief that your only reason for existing is to serve them. If you happen to possess this sort of "me first" tourist mentality, you will have an easy time fitting in with the local cognoscenti. Otherwise, you will quickly discover why this area is widely regarded as the Jersey Shore of Dallas. Fortunately, some good exists along with the bad, and the Magnolia Theater is a good example of this. It serves as an essential antidote to the crush of superficiality surrounding it (hence the extra star rating). But I wonder... do West Villagers actually watch films here, or is the theater supported by visitors from elsewhere? It is a shame Jennivine was forced out of business prior to the completion of West Village. It used to be one of the best restaurants in the area. I fondly remember its charming traditional English atmosphere and delicious Sunday tea bonnet brunch. The subsequent departure of the funky-cool Queen of Sheba Ethiopian restaurant was another tragic loss. I still miss those campy bamboo huts. West Village can be an entertaining place if, like Tom says, you know how to work the system. Which I do, but it isn't quite worth the hassle. Trendy boutiques, chain stores, restaurants with high style and no flavor... it's like living in a mall food court. The trick is getting in and out before the zombies eat your brain. This is probably one of my favorite spots in the Uptown area. It is shopping and restaurant heaven! If you want to sit on the patio with some friends throwing back mimosas and get in some prime people watching...definitely come here on a Saturday afternoon. Or get your heart rate up with a fiery Bikram Yoga class and have a kombucha afterwards! Either way you will find something here to enjoy. Definitely a hot spot to bring out of towners and just spend the day. There's also a ton of lofts and fancy apartments in the area if you're looking for a living space. Another pop-up pre-fab lifestyle center development to feed the urban oasis addiction of Dallas. I've begun to notice that every section of town needs a marketing piece for the allure of 'hip and happening' retail/dining/nightlife destination where one must drive to, park, and then explore. This is another one. I'm just a big a fan of Malai Kitchen, VBB, and the Union Bear. But as I've spoken to many locals and out of towners alike; it's the vibe of LA with the kitsch of Dallas. I'm absolutely in tune with the dining: Union Bear, Malai, and the VBB are great food destinations; the drunken noodles at Malai, the truffle fries at the burger bar, and the beer selection at Union are all excellent. But if you peel away the layers of the 'West Vil' you'll find the same shopping you'd see in similar shopping malls in America. Gap, Loft, Banana Republic, Tommy Bahama, etc. If drowning in a sea of Gap khakis, sperry topsiders, and the iced, tall, skim milk hazelnut macchiato crowd is your deal; go for it. But beware: parking at this place is worse than Gigli. read more

More cachet than content. The architecture sucks, sucks, sucks - good is Shops at Legacy in Plano. Why is that important? When you stroll through the place you realize that it's not designed for people. It's designed for cars. (Why does Dallas get so much scut architecture?) The goofy shops, dining, and bars are opening and closing at a dizzying pace. I recently subscribed to the WestVil Twitter feed to my mobile because I live within walking distance. The free food at Taste of West Village was, eh, OK. The Farmers' Market might be something someday; or maybe not. read more

West Village, what would uptown do without you? This area is one of the happening spots of Dallas filled with places to eat and shop. It's very touristy, too. If you have a friend visiting Dallas for the first time, you'd want him/her to experience West Village to get a good first impression of the city. Everywhere direction you look, there is a good snapshot to take with you camera. There's also a McKinney Avenue trolley that passes by and goes all the way downtown. It's an awesome place to sightsee that looks good day or night. There are also some areas that have lights on the trees - like Christmas all year round! It's so happy-looking. That's what I love about this place. I just wish I could afford a lot of stuff here in a yuppy-filled area. The one and only problem I have about this place is about parking. Their 5 story parking garage is almost not big enough, and it's very cramped, especially when turning in the corners. Either the contractors didn't plan well, or the drivers I pass by aren't up to par with my standards - I'm being semi-sarcastic here. If you want a more available parking space, I suggest you come here when it's not Friday or Saturday night. read more

Maybe this is a TX thing but I am not used to driving around in one way roaded circles to find the entrance to the parking garage for the outdoor shopping center. I find it hard to give more than an average rating to anywhere where valet or a parking garage is required. The center was nice though, clean and kept up. After parking in the garage the sidewalk ended causing pedestrians to walk in the road where there was traffic. There are many clothes shopping, eateries, and salons to choose from but find the majority of them pricy. The shop entrances are outdoors so it could pose a wet day if it's rainy outdoors. read more

Aside from the dining options, West Village appears to be shrinking from a village to a ghost town. Several shops have recently closed in this unusual shopping center, a simple stripped down version of Santana Row in Santa Clara, CA or The Grove in Los Angeles. Some of the shops in this unimaginative complex seemed out of place, such as Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren, though Polo did offer a more updated clothing line compared to its other, larger retail outlets and most other shops seemed to fit right in with the intended demographic. Most of the activity at the complex seemed to center around one area, the restaurants next to the Magnolia Theatre, but it had a almost Miami Beach/SOBE "look at me" crowd. read more

Definitely a highlight of Uptown and a great atmosphere located deep in the Dallas Metroplex. With a plethora of restaurants and retail, people of all ages will enjoy walking around this fun complex. West Village, what's not to like? You can park in the parking garage and off you go to shop or eat at a variety of trendy shops and restaurants. If you go on the weekend, you are bound to park on the fifth level of the parking garage and get stuck in a long line to get in and out of the area. If you visit on a weekday you won't encounter the same level of congestion. West Village is awesome because it's not the same old outdoor shopping mall with the same stores as every other mall. There are local boutiques, some national stores, and the restaurants aren't all chain restaurants. It's a nice change from the usual shopping center plus the parking being available is a bonus. read more

This is a pop up in the middle of the city type action... I would say desert, but it's about the same in Texas. Meanwhile there area a number of clothing establishments and a few "other" type shopping places. You have your starbucks and many eateries. The outdoor mall is pretty good most of the year here in Dallas with the weather and there is a huge parking garage. All in all it's ok with a couple of boutiques and a little spa. For Uptown it's pretty important and there wouldn't be much to do otherwise. read more

Right In the middle of uptown it has everything! starbucks, village burger bar, taco diner, pinkberry, and mi cocina just to name a few restaurants! I love uptown! Great area to go walk around for a few hours. Several different options for dining including: Mexican, Italian, Sushi, a Sandwich place, and both a frozen yogurt and gelato place! West Village is also great if you want to meet up for happy hour. I am a big fan of the Mambo Taxi at Mi Cocina, or you can walk across Lemon to go to The Loon, which has the strongest drinks in town! Shopping is a little pricey, but they have some great stores, including Accents, The Gap, Banana Republic, and an Aveda Salon if you want pampering. I LOVE West Village. When I first moved to Dallas, this was my stomping ground. I was immediately drawn to the atmosphere of mixed space - residential and shopping all in one. It reminded me of Chelsea in short blocks of retail space and the constant foot traffic of scattering about with friends. While I was a student, I flocked to the Starbucks location numerous times. This SB is one of the most spacious ones that I have ever seen, and the only one that is open past 11 pm in Dallas. This made for late night study sessions in a space that I love to be in anyway. I have also frequented the movie theatre located here as it is a hotspot for independent films - which I love. I am excited that the new phases of West Village are nearing completion, adding some additional 25K sq. ft of additional retail space. West Village has become a jewel in the heart of Dallas' Uptown. This is a great place to take visiting friends to get a glimpse of Dallas is becoming. read more

DEMERARA the clothing store has the hours of 10am-8pm posted online. I wanted an outfit in the window before I fly home. I saw the outfit at 8pm last night while on a walk visiting my sister. My flight is in one hour so for them to not be open is so frustrating. You would think this shopping center to have rules about opening their stores on time. My husband and I have lived in the West Village for about 5 years and really enjoy the urban style living. We are close to the supermarket, pharmacy, Magnolia Theatre, several nice restaurants and Starbucks. Although we do not shop for clothes in the WV, we know many of the proprietors and enjoy stopping and chatting on occassion. The kind of people who live in the village are down to earth folks and some of the nicest people you can meet. Look for us sometime. The West Village is one of the many places in DFW that makes me conflicted but after reading the other reviews on Yelp I feel the need to defend the place a little bit. The West Village is preppy, kind of homogenous and has no air of urban hipness, but that's okay. There is a really place and need for areas like this inside the City of Dallas and in general The West Village does what it is supposed to do. There are fairly upscale places to eat and drink, a movie theater that was once art house but seems to have gone more mainstream and much of the kind of retail shopping the people seem to need like chain stores and a few slightly hipper versions of those chain stores. The West Village is functional and keeps customers be they visitors or locals closer to the city center than would be the case if the West Village did not exist. There are wine bars here, some Mexican restaurants, and Asian restaurants, a few bars in and around the area. I consider this a review of the are around the actual shopping center as such good places as The Loon, Manny's Uptown, The Uptown Pub and some others are within easy walking distance. Also, no one else has mentioned the excellent connectivity to DART Rail and the McKinney Avenue Trolley. A new place called Union Bear has just opened and a fair few good places to eat and drink have come and gone as the area continues to change. When people complain about parking here I often want to yell, GET OUT OF YOUR CAR! Dallas is finally and slowly moving in a more truly urban, denser and more environmentally friendly direction. I don't drive to the West Village because I take DART and enjoy the engineering marvel that is the passing from City Place Station. Riding DART rail or the Trolley is only sane way to get to the West Village in my book. Getting here from the DART station, you actually pass under the freeway to get to the West Portal. Right at the exit of the West Portal you can either start walking or take the McKinney Avenue Trolley. If you are in Downtown, depending on what day and time it is, it is not too hard to take the Trolley and much later this year the expansion will make it even easier. My advice get out of your car and have a drink and realize that this is not Deep Ellum or The Bishop Arts District or the Main Street District. It's preppy and overall this place works. read more

Look. I used to live in this area - back when it was called Turtle Creek. The space where West Village stands now is where I used to buy my Christmas trees and dine at the one restaurant on the whole pad: Jennivine's. Now stand the foray of multi use space. You have lots of opportunity to dine, people watch, see great films, shop, and live. It's a good thing. If you are looking for the next great bargain, you are not going to find it here, true. However, it serves a good purpose and offers a necessary face lift and polish to an otherwise vacant lot. Period. read more

If you are thinking of moving here, don't. You will hate your life. It is very VERY noisy at all hours of the day thanks to random construction, the trolley, obnoxious patrons in their noisy cars/roadsters/crotch rockets, pigeons (I never thought I'd hate on them, but they have made my patio completely unusable), and noisy drunks/homeless people passing through.
