Almost ten years later. I'd forgotten all about this shop. I needed a replacement part for my Miele…read morevacuum cleaner, and this place came up as the second listing on Miele's "find a retailer" page. I called the first place and their voicemail picked up, so I called this place and asked if they had what I needed (specified by model/serial number of my vacuum). Answer: Yes, they had it in stock, gave me the part number, and the price would be $150 (and change) after taxes. I drove up and as I was parking, it occurred to me that I'd been to a vacuum store in the same block years ago, but on the other side of the street, and I remembered the badness described in my original review on here. So I go in the store and ask "Did you used to be across the street?" Answer: Yes. OK, well, it's been a bunch of years, maybe it's new ownership, or maybe their behaviour that day long ago was an anomaly; let's see how things go this time. They go get the part (confirmed same part number they cited over the phone), and ring it up: over $180. I say, "Oh! What happened to $150 you quoted me on the phone an hour ago?" Guy goes, "I'll fix the price" and goes typing on his keyboard, then comes back with "So that's $168 after tax". I did not have time, patience, or willingness to get in an argument. I probably should have just said "Thanks, never mind" and walked out (I probably should have been more patient with that first listing where I got routed to voicemail), but I did need the part, and I was there, so I just figured "whatever" and paid it and got the errand done. Not worth fighting crosstown traffic to get to the other place for $18. Come on. Quote the real price over the phone, don't play these bait-and-switch games. One-star review still stands, 10 years later.

They certainly know their vacuums. Took a Dyson vacuum as the brush head stopped rotating. The…read morelady manning the store was knowledgeable and patiently explained what are the possible causes. Good thing the only thing that needed to be replaced was the rubber belt which is easier on the wallet compared to replacing the clutch. I thought that the price was reasonable. The shop itself is small and is filled with vacuums -- used and new. You know that they get a lot of repair business when you see the vacuums that needed to be repaired all lined up. The time frame they gave us was accurate for completing the job. I'm glad to support family businesses like this and will recommend them to family and friends for their vacuum repair needs. Dropped off a vacuum cleaner for repair…read more Parking is available on the street. The shop seems to be run by a single guy, so service is a bit slower if he's in the middle of something. Being less than a block from a direct competitor (Aerus), how does this place stack up? Good: Pricing is generally more competitive, though this place does use cheaper-looking parts. Quality seems okay though. Bad: Place is WAY more cluttered - it feels like you're in some hoarder's basement. Parts selection (based on my 1-time experience) is more limited, and wait times for ordering parts is longer. As you can see, the place has its ups and down. Choose between time and money.

I have arranged for Shane to come and help fix my Fisher & Paykel fridge based on the reviews here…read more I have informed him of the F2 error which I've informed him as defrost error. Customer support: Shane was very accommodating in terms of scheduling/ changing appointment. He also called back really promptly. Services: Shane was unable to resolve the problem for me. He pulled the fridge out and looked at the back where the compressor was, checked the resistance, and said I needed a new fridge. He also said it could be computer board error and would be very pricey and may cost as much as a new fridge. I wasn't convinced as my fridge is relatively new (5 years) and on the market now is still around $3000. I sought a 2nd opinion with another company (that was recommended by a hardware store that said that other company services Fisher & Paykel appliances). The other repair company came and fixed it within 30 minutes (they knew exactly what was wrong based on the error code; it was simply the defrosting element that malfunctioned.. hence defrost error, my fridge has no more error since the element was replaced). Cost: He offered one of the most competitive call-out rate. He charged me for the call out rate and didn't charge me for labour since he couldn't resolve my issue. Overall, I appreciated the customer service and the courtesy of not having charged labour. But I did have to call for another company and according to them was a simple fix hence the lower rating.
