In a ski area with one of the most expensive lift tickets in the country, $400+ nightly hotel/resort rooms, and exquisite dining options, it's nice to be able to save some coin on bottled wines, craft beers, or liquor. In the interest of keeping classy, (or not...) we left our happy hour spot for Vail Fine Wines, grabbed some cigars (also sold here), and brown-bagged a round of 22oz craft beers around one of Vail's outdoor pit fireplaces...a great way to relax after a day of awesome skiing! Allan is extremely nice and well-versed...as Chad P. mentioned, this is definitely not one of the "bro/brah" type places! At some point during our virgin Colorado trip, we stopped into Beaver Liqours and I walked out of the door with a roguish smile and a poster that hung on my bedroom wall until my senior year in high school and then travelled with me to Utah and graced my dorm room wall until my sophomore year in college. It was lost during one of my many moves. Fast forward four decades, I stopped in Avon a few days ago specifically to pick up a t-shirt for my girl and walked out with a smaller reprint of the same poster. I call that a win. Same smile too. High prices!? Huh? It's frickin' Beaver Creek! I am happy that Beaver Liqours is still in business and remains family-owned and I appreciate that they haven't shied away from their sense of humor after all of these years. Seriously, if you can't work out from the name of the place their personality ... You're probably not the brightest bulb.

A-rating, hands down. I never give higher, there is always room for improvement. These guys hit a sweet spot, with pricing, parking, quality of service, knowledge and location. Not the largest liquor store you'll find but adequate. I try to not be critical of small business,…read morebut something is just completely off on some of the prices here, where certain things are marked up so much you'd think they must be buying them retail price from a grocery store instead of a liquor distributor. For example, some common sparkling wine like Chandon is 50%+ more than you'd normally pay. White Claw, again, 50% higher than even the 7-11 gas station at the Beaver Creek exit one mile away, and gas stations aren't exactly the place you go for great deals. The selection should get the job done for many people, a little light on the beers, definitely on the sparkling wine, but they have the core liquors and a reasonable selection of red wine. Also wanted mezcal and they either had one or none; memory is failing me on which it was, and I know mezcal is not as popular as its cousin tequila, but most liquor stores at least have three or four.

The place was laid out so we didn't necessarily need help, but in the wine area, a really helpful older gentleman helped us pick out a great reasonably priced Pinot noir at maybe $22-23. Very pleasant experience. Interesting, varied selection at multiple price points. Just a very few of those little signs under various wines (you know, like: 89 points Wine Spectator, intense cherry and cassis with a forward palate, drink now through 2019) - but their selection was good quality and we've had or recognized many of the options on the shelf and they were all solid in the Pinot Noir section where we focused. It gave us extra confidence in the recommendation we took on a wine we hadn't tried before. It was lovely. Super beer collection too.
