Great selection and a friendly staff. Reasonable prices and some really rare wines and it's a cool looking spot. Will always come back!!

I'm a bourbon guy and was looking for a decent bottle for the night. When I saw the sign outside, I should have just kept walking, but went inside. Found my Weller Special Reserve that I get back home in Atlanta, but it was marked up double the price that it normally is and they had a store pick of Weller Antique (this I wanted), but it was more than double as well. The Stagg Jr. was marked up significantly. I wasn't about to ask the price for the bottles in the window. Nice selection but you would have to be desperate or just not care about money (It is Vail). The craft beer selection was solid. I just can't support a place that gives its customers the middle finger before you even walk in the store. read more

Visiting from Michigan I stopped into Vail Fine Wines hoping they would have any A.D. Law Cask Strength items for sale in their shop. I asked one of the employees if they carried it and they were rude in their dismissal stating what they had was on the shelf. Well, okay then! Vail Fine Wines is located in the heart of the pedestrian-friendly Vail Village, steps from all their other restaurants, bars, and shops. In a ski area with one of the most expensive lift tickets in the country, $400+ nightly hotel/resort rooms, and exquisite dining options, it's nice to be able to save some coin on bottled wines, craft beers, or liquor. In the interest of keeping classy, (or not...) we left our happy hour spot for Vail Fine Wines, grabbed some cigars (also sold here), and brown-bagged a round of 22oz craft beers around one of Vail's outdoor pit fireplaces...a great way to relax after a day of awesome skiing! Allan is extremely nice and well-versed...as Chad P. mentioned, this is definitely not one of the "bro/brah" type places! Be prepared to pay a pinch more than what you're used to at another wine/liquor store, but hey, that's the Vail tax folks! read more

The worst example of a liquor store you will ever find. Great selection of whiskey in the window with a sign that says "serious inquiries only". Okay, well I'm a pretty serious buyer. I have no issues paying a couple hundred for a great bottle. In fact there happens to be a bottle of Weller in the window marked at $200. That's double the retail price, which is already a bunch of crap, but it is Vail. I go inside to "inquire seriously". The smug guy behind the counter says "no, that bottle is $2,000"! You have to be $&@#%^ kidding me. And then I look around at the rest of the store. That wasn't the only thing marked up 2000% above retail. That place is a joke. Hope they go out of business. Do yourself a favor and go to West Vail or order online. read more

Rude staff. Employees mocking paying customers after they left and rude to customers while they wait in line. Either a group of drunks drinking on the clock or just basic jerks, I'd say a combination of the two. Head to Grappa for realistic pricing and easily better staff. read more

VFW has a solid mix of classic wines as well as some unexpectedly geeky, adventurous bottlings! The staff shared their excitement over some of the inventory "gems" and why they like them. Great beer selection, too - lots of individual cans so we had fun trying some new microbrews. Will definitely be back to blow the dust off a few of those other recommendations! read more

We are not locals per se, but we have been visiting Vail now for over 25 years. In the last couple of years we have sporadically purchased wines and spirits from Vail Fine Wines. This year will be the last time we ever set foot on their store. Yes, Vail Fine Wines does carry an impressive inventory of rare wines and whiskeys. As you would expect, that selection does come at a steep markup. Most bottles are marked up between 50-200% of normal retail price (if you can find them, of course). The markup is OK depending on buyer, item, and occasion. What is NOT acceptable is having owners/staff being rude and disrespectful to buyers. My brother and I noticed they had a bottle of George T. Stagg bourbon on their shelves. Given the bottle was on the top shelf, and that we are not particularly tall persons, we could only make out the price ($750) but not other details such as bottle proof, etc. My brother asked one of the store owners if we could see the bottle, at which point he rudely replied with "What is there to see? I do not want people handling bottles. Are you buying it?" Ok... off to a great start! We replied with a yes and, as if he were doing us an epic favor, he grudgingly handed us the bottle. When paying, we *politely* asked one of the owners if there was any wiggle room on the price at all. That's fair game with massive store markups. As a customer, the response was just disturbing (a simple "sorry, prices are final" would suffice). To paraphrase the owners responses: "the price is what it is, if you don't buy it someone else will" and "our monthly rent is $20,000 and our commercial taxes are horrible; buy it or leave it". What in the...? Is that how you treat a customer willing to buy a significantly overpriced item at a store? First, yes, we are well aware that "the price is what it is". You do not need to teach me about free markets. Second, I could care less what your expenses are. That is your problem and not mine, and certainly not a justification to rant to a customer as to why you are pillaging their wallets. And third, those bottles and prices have not moved since early December, so... maybe they will sell, maybe they won't, but the attitude of "we do not need your business, someone else will come if not" is just unpalatable and unwarranted. Vail Fine Wines is run by rude pompous clowns. As others have commented already, do not expect to be treated respectfully as a customer. My two cents: Go to Grappa instead. They also carry a very respectable selection of wines and spirits. It is also walking distance within Vail town, and within the context of this post, their staff has always been extremely helpful and polite. read more

It's the only store in Vail Village, but it's actually not that pretentious... it's expensive, but I imagine the truly "rich" people fly in their desired vintages. read more

My most recent trip to Vail was made better by walking into this shop. The selection is incredible and unexpected. Definitely some labels on the shelf I wasn't anticipating. Cool craft beer section too. Allan (I think he's the shop manager) was very helpful. I stopped in a couple times during my trip and every person that worked there was as knowledgable as you would expect of a quality wine shop, but rarely get. Great place, fantastic selection and well informed staff. Check it out if you're in Vail. read more

Never feel the need to leave a review but this experience was bad enough I felt it was necessary. Had a question about a beer they might carry and the worker angrily said no before storming off. When we were leaving he began mumbling stuff under his breath at us as we left. read more

Great little store! It's filled with far more tremendous selections than you would expect and it has a very knowledgable, friendly, and helpful staff. I'd call this store a hidden gem, and will definitely be visiting again the next time I'm in the area. read more

The store is nice and well stocked. If you are completely unaware of what things should cost, then ignorance is bliss for you here. However, if you have an idea as to how much things normally cost (like a bottle of Prisoner Red Blend cost 70% more here than anywhere else that I've seen it sold in including Whole Foods) then this place will suit you just fine. We decided not to buy anything as a result. Must be pretty difficult to get wine to this part of the country. read more

Craft Rye and bourbons, scotch, beer (best craft selection in eagle county!!), wine, cigars (blunts?. No, cigars),!! They have everything the other guys don't and class to go with the unbelievable selection. Stay away from Grappa and stop by and check out vail fine wine. read more
