Roughly forty years ago, my dad brought my brother and I to Avon to ski Beaver Creek Resort for the first time. At some point during our virgin Colorado trip, we stopped into Beaver Liqours and I walked out of the door with a roguish smile and a poster that hung on my bedroom wall until my senior year in high school and then travelled with me to Utah and graced my dorm room wall until my sophomore year in college. It was lost during one of my many moves. Fast forward four decades, I stopped in Avon a few days ago specifically to pick up a t-shirt for my girl and walked out with a smaller reprint of the same poster. I call that a win. Same smile too. High prices!? Huh? It's frickin' Beaver Creek! I am happy that Beaver Liqours is still in business and remains family-owned and I appreciate that they haven't shied away from their sense of humor after all of these years. Seriously, if you can't work out from the name of the place their personality ... You're probably not the brightest bulb. read more

First I'll say that if you're staying in this area you had better be able/willing to pay high prices for everything - dinner, golf, skiing, chairlift rides, wine, beer and liquor. Secondly, I'll say that everyone's entitled to make a living - small and large businesses alike. So I generally try to frequent places that have more than two stars so that I can verify the ratings given by others. I am saddened to say that I have to give Beaver Liquors two stars for various reasons. 1. It's a resort town but the prices are beyond what should be acceptable at a resort town. An $18 bottle of wine in a larger city is $31 here. To me that's way beyond the type of up charge people should be paying for the convenience of buying wine in the mountains. A bottle of angels envy in the big city is $45 and here it was $67. 2. If they have something marked on the shelf at a certain price they still won't give it to you for that price if it was missed marked. That's kind of a big no-no in the retail world. If a shelf price is showing at a certain dollar amount and you get to the register and it rings up higher and you take the person back to the shelf and show them the price that is lower they should sell it to you, the person that found it, at that price until they can correct the shelf tag. It happened to me with a small bottle of liquor I showed the cashier where it was and all that they said was "well I can't give it to you for that that's a premium product." And I responded "every other place I've ever been to the person that finds it on the shelf mis-marked gets it for the price as marked and that's just the way good retailers do it.." They didn't like hearing that and their unwillingness to give it to me at the price marked (which was $.50 difference) tells me that they have poor business practices and poor customer service. It's very possible it's illegal what they did, however since I don't know the local laws I didn't bring that up to her. Just be forewarned you will pay through the nose, and if you find something incorrectly marked find out first whether it's illegal for them to not give you the price as marked or just suffer and pay the higher price! In my case I told her I didn't want it because it was the principle of the matter. 3. The third reason for two stars is that their wine selection is fairly limited even though they have lots of space between the first floor and the basement. They must not sell a lot of it because many of the bottles are fairly dusty. It's very convenient especially if you're staying in Avon, but there are alternatives. read more

Nice enough selection but the staff is exceptionally rude and crude. My wife and I stopped in to buy some wine. At check out, the two men working the cashiers started talking about "feeding the chickens" and "watering the beavers." They kept joking about how the beaver would be wet when they were done. This, in front of two female customers. If there really are chickens to be fed and a beaver to water at the store, I'll retract my review. If not, I will continue to avoid this place and take my business elsewhere. There was nothing special about the selection that would warrant a return visit. read more

Beaver Liquors is our go to purveyor of wine and spirits when we are in Beaver Creek. They have a huge selection of spirits, beer and especially wine. Their whole lower level is dedicated to wine and they are extremely knowledgeable about their stock. Same goes for their beer selections. They certainly have all of the popular big brand beers, but they also have an excellent selection of craft beers from all over the country, as well as imported specialty beers. As for pricing, Beaver Liquors is right on par with anyone else in the area, except perhaps Costco, which is 30 minutes away and has an extremely limited selection to choose from. In looking at the other reviews, I see mostly 5 stars, and deservedly so. The rare 1 or 2 star reviews are quite dated and I'm guessing they are the norm for the people who wrote them. For a liquor store in a resort area you cannot beat Beaver Liquors! read more

After a long day on the mountain, we stopped by Beaver Liquors (and wine cellar) to retreat to our cabin. Beaver is a pretty tight space packed with as much beer, liquor, and wine as possible...my kinda place. They say they have a wine cellar but I didn't check it out...we went with a box wine of course. We also picked up a multi pack of beer. Overall an easy in and out experience. The location is perfect. Right next to a few different rentals, a grocery store, and plenty of restaurants. read more

Got to love the name and the fact they actually have a huge wine cellar.

This liquor store was right across the street from where we were staying, and it was very well stocked in addition to having friendly helpful employees. We originally purchased our beer at the local grocery store, because we were grocery shopping, but we were informed that all supermarket and gas station beer is maximum 3.2% alcohol. Really? This place had an incredible selection of wine on the lower floor, liquor, and plenty of local craft beers, what Colorado is known for, and we were able to do the pick 6 for $12 deal, which consisted of anything in two entire cooler sections! Our favorite craft beers are IPAs, and there were quite a few. I do recommend this liquor store. read more

So there are endless jokes about 'Beaver Liquors', and they play this up through novelty t-shirts and stickers available for purchase either on their website, or at the retail location. Now on to the booze. They have a large selection of both liquor and beer on the main level, including a great variety of local brews. Head downstairs and you will find a vast selection of wine, along with a very knowledgable sommelier. A very large selection at multiple price points, and he is happy to help you find the perfect wine within your budget. I love going to this liquor store when I am out in the mountains. Not only can you get various Beaver liquors paraphernalia for your dirty minded friends, but they have a good selection of beer and an AWESOME wine cellar. All you have to do is go into the basement and tell the guy in the cellar what you are having for dinner and your budget and they hook you up with a great bottle. Fantastic Wine selection! The entire downstairs in nothing but wine. They had a large variety of both low end and high end wines from several regions and countries. We grabbed a Bordeaux and a red blend from Italy. Both were fantastic and well priced. They looked like they had a great selection of other types of drinks, but we didnt even look around after. In our search for wine and beer we happened to find this place after grocery shopping in the snow. We were ecstatic to find refuge in a place that not only had beer and wine but had a fairly significant wine selection. Everything was separated by country and type. The customer service was excellent and we were happy to find something that we liked. Nothing worse than being on vacation and drinking crappy wine. A real (below ground) wine cellar, great selection of local/international wines, knowledgeable sommeliers (thanks Joe), a good humidor, friendly staff and reasonable prices - what more could you want! Why souvenirs of course - and they have a whole section of the shop for all the dirty minded beaver 'liquors' out there! With 3 liquor stores in Avon (none of which are 'discount' supermarket type) the competition keeps the prices reasonable for Vail Valley. Each have their own discounts on certain ranges but I have found the Beaver prices pretty good overall, and I visit them the most when in town. I'm reviewing Beaver Liquors, the Beaver Liquors is in a decent sized strip mall just East of the main road that goes through Avon to the Beaver Creek Ski Resort. The Beaver Liquors I'm talking about are tucked in a strip mall behind another strip mall, and adjacent to a third strip mall. It's almost like the town of Avon is trying to disguise or hide the Beaver Liquors. But they're not trying to disguise the Beaver Liquors, more people stop in Avon for the Beaver Liquors and wind up getting dinner, just to get a T-shirt. The Beaver Liquors themselves probably make more money on the t-shirts they sell than they do on the liquor markup. I usually buy a t-shirt for my perverted cousins and nephews from the Beaver Liquors whenever I roll through Avon. While one can certainly get hammered drunk with the Beaver Liquors, it's not recommended. You see, police in the area tend to frown upon potential vehicular homicide after drinking too much, and the Beaver Liquors will help you drink too much. The Beaver Liquors do however have a wonderful selection of booze, wine and beers that will help you want to buy a T-shirt and make you think you're good enough to ski the glades the next day. You're not good enough to ski the glades, but you do need a T-shirt from the Beaver Liquors. A little tip...parking to hang with the Beaver Liquors can be tough. The Beaver Liquors have 2 tiny (5 - 10 car) parking lots surrounding their hangout, and getting in an out of each parking spot can be difficult if you've rented an SUV. You just spent the last three minutes of your life reading a Yelp review about Beaver Liquors which happened to be my 200th review. Best named joint ever. 95% of all new business owners need to hire these cats to name their new business. 5 stars for the name of the joint. Nuff said. read more

It started a couple of days ago when I went there to purchase a relatively inexpensive but hopefully decent bottle of Pinot Noir. The sommelier in the wine cellar is a Wine Spectator on legs... and I don't mean that to any disrespect... This guy really knows his shit! He gives great suggestions and actually steers you away from the Napa Valley trophy bottles. Chardonnay, Cab and Pinot Noir? Nope! he'll steer you to a light and aromatic sparkling verdicchio for dessert or maybe a peppery tempranillo to go with roasted lamb. Give him a price limit and he will walk you around the room, and have a story for each bottle he picks up. If you really get in kahoots with him, he might suggest a limited release bottle that isn't even on display. read more
