Ok, an honest review from a person that grew up in South Texas. My wife says that Northern bbq has a different taste. Well, she was right. We were there on 8-28-26, I ordered the brisket, pulled pork and the burnt ends, got the baked beans and the coleslaw, topped it off with a Dr.Pepper. The wait staff and casher were great and very helpful. I'll start with the brisket, It had a faint taste of smoke, it was a little rubbery, I'll give it a 3. The pulled pork had a flavory smoke taste, I'll give it a 4. The burnt ends, well I'm not sure what that was that I ate. It wasn't burnt on the ends and even with the sauce, it that didn't help. I'll give it a 0. Now the coleslaw, not sure if was coleslaw or they tried to make potato salad and missed the mark. I'll give it a 0. The baked beans were Outstanding, along with the corn muffin and the Dr. Pepper. I read this to my wife and she said it was about right. She is from Michigan. read more

This a little hidden gem well worth it. I had a uber driver tell me I have to try it that they make the best BBQ. I live close and decided to try it. It was so good and loved all the BBQ sauces to choose from. My kids liked the Mac and cheese but not much of anything else. What a surprise to find West Texas today on my way home from a vacation. My friend and I were driving home from Shipshewana and we decided bbq sounded good. So she googled bbq restaurants and found this joint. It was a little off our path but worth it. This is not your typical restaurant but it does have seating indoors and out. You order at the counter then get your food and sit down. The noise level is moderate inside because it's one open space with the cooks, service counter, and line of people waiting to order or get their food. There's also music playing. The nice thing is you can sit outside at a covered picnic table if you choose. They cook the food in smokers located just outside the restaurant. The meats served are brisket, ribs, turkey, sausage, burnt ends, and pork. I choose a platter with three meats - brisket, turkey, and burnt ends. The brisket was so tender and tasty! My fav! The burnt ends were good too but a few of mine were too burnt (hard). Those that weren't were amazing. The turkey was my least favorite but it was still very good. There are many sides to choose from along with rolls or cornbread. I picked hashbrown casserole and baked beans. The casserole had a slight spicy kick to it along with some bacon! Perfect combo of potato, cheese, and bacon. The baked beans were yummy sweet. The corn bread was the least exciting thing on my plate - just not the best I've tasted and a little dry. If the prices and the hours were a little better, West Texas would get five stars from me no problem. The food here is OUTSTANDING. I tried all of their sauces, and the Big 'Uns sauce is definitely the best! The mild was also very good, although I wasn't a huge fan of the flavor in the hot. They're hardly ever open though, which is a bummer, and they don't sell actual meals with like a meat and sides; you have to buy everything separately, which means it gets quite expensive. Still, definitely worth a stop to give them a try if you can catch them while they're open! read more

Today I made my way over to the south side of town intending to go to another location when's the craving for bbq came upon me. And thankfully to my surprise West Texas was still open. First of all, someone needs to teach them how to cut brisket. You don't serve sliced brisket that's cut with the grain, it's impossible to chew that way. I also got the pulled pork which if you were blindfolded and eating it you wouldn't know if it was pork, chicken, turkey or for that matter even meat. There was absolutely no flavor whatsoever. If you choose to eat there, pay close attention to everything that they touch while wearing the gloves that they're touching your food with. Totally unsanitary. And the little blonde headed girl that was helping them serve food when I was there on a Saturday even wore her gloves outside and came back in and touched people's plates. Wow, a very authentic Texas BBQ restaurant. Nothing fancy - but the Brisket and Burnt Ends are one of my new favorites. Totally reminded me of Fort Worth TX , but here in south central Michigan. The hot sauce was on point as were the turkey pork sausage and brisket. Fresh cookies are amazing too! We ate outside on a beautiful day but they do offer carry out. There is no alcohol. The smell from the huge smokers makes you super hungry. Portions could be a little more but what you get is all quality. The pickles are fresh as so are the jalapeños. We had west Texas cater a wedding for us last wkend. Sad to say we're more than disappointed. Our head count was 175. Thwu delivered 6 trays of meat 3 trays of potatoes 2 trays of Mac and cheese and 1 tray of beans. They only sent 100 plates and silverware!!!! The food was delivered at 245 for a 6 o'clock dinner time. By the time we did eat. The Mac and cheese was scolded into a crisp burnt topping the beans were on a rolling boil!!! Half way thru the guest line we started running out of food. By the time we got 3/4 the way thru all that was left was meat. Not to mention we had to send someone for more plates and silverware!!!! Completed embarrassing to our guest ! When I contacted them the following morning their reply was they could not tell us how many ppl serving was in one tray. Umm ok red flag. But they could tell me that they portion size is 2 oz of baked beans and 3 oz of Mac and cheese per person. They aid our guest over portioned their plates. So the first 100 ppl all. Every single one of them took two servings for us to run out I guess. Then they said there was two events going out of one van and we got the other ppls silverware. One can prob assume we got there food as well. If you're looking to find a catering company I'd suggest having them serve up a partook at a tasting. This way you know if you need to buy dinner plates or just simple save the money and buy dessert place :). I keep saying if the only thing that went wrong is the food I can live with that. It is the real deal. There's a big smoker out by the road. It may just be a prop but it was smoking and smelling pretty darn good. The place is appropriately in a warehouse. Just enough room to line up. No tables. I tried the 3 meat platter served with sauce and rolls and butter. I like the polish sausage and the pork shoulder. The brisket was too lean and overdone for my liking. I like it fatty and wet. The rolls were odd. They looked like they were supposed to be baked but weren't. Overall a class act. The ribs were dry, the pulled pork meh, the brisket was good 3 out of the 4 times we ordered it. Sandwiches could use more meat on them. They do not carry rib tips. All the sides have pepper in them. Can't taste the food. That's always a red flag. The gumbo was almost perfect the jambalaya not so much. There is no table service and the new girl on the register can't focus long enough to get your order right. The inside looks like a repurposed barn. It works. Serve me one bad meal and I am out the door and will not return in this go- round as life is too short for less than good. We had previously rated West Texas as 5 stars and were enthusiastic for many years for the great tastes crafted by the previous owner. Unfortunately he passed away during the pandemic and times as they were we had not been back until this fall. Really only wished the best for the new management. I was reticent about this review as I wished that things had not changed but alas and alack what can I say about tough smoked brisket? About smoked turkey so smoky as to be inedible (nothing but smoke flavor.) The old style brisket/pulled pork baked beans have been replaced with (as far as we could taste) barbeque beans which we swear came out of a can. Coleslaw was lukewarm and not tasty. I also tagged the smoked prime rib (which used to be a weekend special with mashed taters, gravy and veggie) but now is mediocre prime rib, also too smoky. I don't like ending up writing a critical review as they are more difficult. I would really wish that things wouldn't change in a negative fashion, but they do. I really don't have much hope of changing the food, so I do not return. Dining out (or take-out) costs far too much for working class folks (that's about 90% of us) to be throwing food in the trash can and hope one is better served next time. Adios. read more

This is the home to the best BBQ in Michigan. Our favorite meats to get are the brisket, hot link or polish sausage, smoked chicken and pulled pork. They're all so great. The brisket has just enough fat that it's juicy and you can pull it apart with a fork. The smoked Turkey is sliced and has to be the best smoked Turkey I've ever had. It's flavorful and not even dried out! The pulled pork is more like chopped pork but again it's full of great flavor and juiciness that won't disappoint. Smoked sausage can sometimes be over cooked or the skin will get tough. Not here! The sausage links have a great texture on the inside, the skin has the perfect snap, isn't tough at all and again, not dried out and over cooked. We love it! They will sometimes have specials for sides that never disappoint. We've had a has brown casserole that is out of this world. I think it has cheddar cheese, sour cream and maybe even cream of mushroom. It's so tasty I already want it again. Their baked beans are my favorite beans. The beans are small and tender and mixed with onions, bacon and the sausage is sort of thick and slightly sweet. You can't forget about the corn bread muffins. They're very moist and more like a cake than a dry, crumbly bread. Be sure to try all of their homemade sauces. They're all very great. You can also get onions, jalapeños and pickles on the side to eat with your bbq. I highly suggest you do it! They also serve most meats with a roll so you can make a little sandwich if you'd like. They do have a few desserts that are always a tasty treat to top off your belly. I love that the staff here is very friendly and the inside is very much like a Texas bbq joint. You must get here! Highly dissatisfied and disappointing. The customer service was good and they followed all current Covid-19 procedures but the meat was so overly seasoned we couldn't even taste the actual meat. We had ribs, pulled pork and brisket. All three were so salty it was almost inedible but we ate it because it was expensive. The ribs were dry and way too spicy. The BBQ sauce was almost pure vinegar. The baked beans and corn bread were good and ended up being the star of the meal. So disappointed because I really like to support local businesses. Best BBQ I've ever had, hands down. I've had my fair share of BBQ run-ins in my day. From across America's heartland, to down south, to up in the Midwest, and without a doubt, west Texas is the best I've had. What really stole the show for me was the ribs. I'd give the ribs 10 stars (out of 5) if I could. Everyone has their own ideal rib, but these things hit a home run for me. They were tender, smokey, and meaty. The rub accented the meat without overpowering it, and maybe the best indicator of how great the ribs were, I sure as heck wasn't going to ruin them by eating them with sauce. The value of paying 20 bucks for all you can eat is another reason why I'd give west Texas 20 stars if I could. Being AYCE not only allows you to stuff your face with some downright amazing BBQ, but it also allows you to try all the different kinds of meats they offer, which are plentiful. The pulled pork and brisket were solid, not necessarily the best I've ever had (I've had some darn good brisket and pulled pork in my day), so that definitely shouldn't be held against WTB. If you like low and slow, smokey and delicious BBQ, you'd be a fool not to try WTB. If I lived closer, I'd probably be 500 lbs and they would need a cattle prod and a bobcat to get me out of the place. read more

Awesome meats. The flavor is outstanding. The earlier you get there the better. I have taken some pictures for you of a large chili and the prime rib. Here's a tip. If you order 1 pound of prime rib it is enough for two healthy adults. Plenty of meat. The beef brisket chili is fantastic. For those out there that had reviews that this place is overpriced, that is ridiculous. Another tip, when ordering à la carte do not order more than you need. That is a crucial mistake.
