BEWARE this company. They have poorly maintained cars and ours BROKE DOWN. NO REFUND. NO REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. The website takes you to a company with the same name and address. But when you telephone the number on the webpage, they give you an address in Gardena at 1244 132nd St. I rented a Prius on June 6, 2022 from them for a period of one month. I pre paid $200 deposit and $900 for the rental ($850 for the car plus $50 for the extra driver). The car BROKE DOWN less than 48 hours later, stranding my 20 year old driver, who was an authorized driver on the rental. I tried contacting the company NUMEROUS times by telephone and text, marking it URGENT. NO REPLY for more than 21 hours! My daughter was 50 miles from home in Calabasas, stranded. I received no apology, no offer of a working replacement vehicle. I was told by text that I would receive a full refund on the day following the breakdown, when the owner sent his father to my house to pick up the key to the Prius. He signed a paper stating he picked up the key. He arrived to pick up the key at 12:30pm on June 9 and had a trailer attached to his Camry, which I assumed was to go pick up the car at the gas station where my daughter obtained permission to leave the car in Calabasas. I received no refund that day as promised. I received a text the following day stating I would have my refund by noon. I did not. I still have not received any refund and the company will not answer my calls or texts. BEWARE this company. They have one name online (West Side Rent A Car). Another company name on the contract (Nonstop, LLC). And a third company name that actually gets your money when you pay by credit card (Eco Buds, LLC). This makes it very difficult for a consumer to reach them through legal action. A review of the Secretary of State filings show a company called West Side Rent a Car. There are no companies listed called Nonstop, LLC. There are companies with Nonstop in a longer name. The company rents POORLY maintained old cars. The Prius was a 2011 with 179,931 miles on it. The driver's seat was torn. The car smelled like weed. I had a very hard time finding a car rental company that would allow under age drivers that had cars available and I needed a second car for my daughter to get to her summer internship. I thought that after reading the good reviews, this would be ok. She didn't need a brand new car, just one to get her from A to B and back. I am now having to dispute the charges with the credit card company. I expect that with all my evidence in texts my dispute will be approved, but this has been a VERY STRESSFUL and unpleasant experience. Don't risk it. read more

A month before my family's trip to Los Angeles, we knew we would need a month-long car rental. Yes, we tried to save a bit of money going through this "company", however, had I known what we would encounter, I would gladly pay hundreds of dollars more to go with a typical car rental place that offers new, safe cars and believes in customer service. When Radu's employee dropped off what was supposed to be an Audi 6 that looked shiny and new in his online pictures, what was parked on the curb was a tired, old, worn paint job of a car from years and years ago with interior stains and almost 200,000 miles on it. If I was single or even married without a kid, fine, I would be willing to drive it to save a couple hundred bucks despite the total false advertising of his cars. We were overwhelmed and exhausted and decided to just deal with this horrible car. It was getting late. We had so much to accomplish with my toddler at this point and were so overwhelmed by getting settled in and my husband's work commitments that we did not attempt to install the car seat until we put our son to sleep. As a parent, I'm sure you understand this. However, in the month prior to this trip, we made it very clear via email and via phone that we needed a convertible car seat for my toddler. We even approved of the brand he would be renting to us. However, this worn car seat from years and years ago was not compatible with the car once we had a moment from our travels to attempt the installation of it. We realized we would be unable to use the car or install the car seat. It did not meet safety standards nor did it have a LATCH system. As a parent, Radu is not a parent, so he does not understand this concern, he is renting out car seats that would not meet safety standards for small children. He got into a heated debate with my husband late at night while picking up his "Audi" that we had no choice but to return. This was due to his utter lack of respect for his providing an unsafe situation for our son. The car seat swung from side to side in the back of the car and would cause my son to be gravely injured and/or the unthinkable should we have gotten in a car accident. Out of our kindness, we offered him to keep $30 out of the $100 reservation fee for his gas money from dropping off and then having to pick up this unacceptable car and car seat. Yes, he did offer to go install a LATCH system in the car, but, I'm sorry, if you are selling ice cream, you don't say, I will go to a cone factory at 1OPM and get you a cone. It's common sense, provide a quality, safe product. After travelling all day with a toddler, I was not about to wait any later. I had lost my trust in him being able to correct this situation. It should have been right upon delivery. Despite signing various papers that we would agree to our keeping $70, he is now still bothering us about it and disputing this signed agreement for a measly $70. I am starting to think he makes his money off of keeping reservation fees since I can't imagine anyone wanting to step foot in his rental cars unless it is out of sheer desperation or financial necessity. We have since gone with a more professional, standard car company. For a couple hundred dollars more, we now have a new, safe car seat that can be installed correctly with a new Nissan. We even received an upgrade without asking. That is customer service, my friends. We are still both shocked and appalled a the lack of customer service, concern for my child's safety and overall empathy. I tried to avoid writing this negative review and told him I would if he continued to harass us and not refund our $70. It is not about the money at this point, it's the principle of the situation. I needed a car for 3 months in LA and was on a budget. I was happy to rent a used car in good condition. I compared different quotes and decided to go with Radu. He's very reactive and available, The rental is cheap, the cars are well maintained and his staff is friendly (I even used their wifi while waiting for 10 minutes). They pick you up and drop you off when getting and returning the car. Overall very accommodating. Radu and his wife Laura are very pleasant to work with. West Ride Rent-a-Car is VERY friendly, fair, and easy to communicate with. I rented a car for 7 weeks, paid upfront, and had a family emergency come up, causing me to leave town only 2 weeks into my stay. Radu was very prompt and fair in giving me a partial refund. I had enough to worry about with making last minute arrangements and he made it EASY to return the car and be treated fairly (no crazy excess fees for breaking contract). Free airport pick up and drop off with a one month rental, $30 for pick up if less than one month. The car that I drove was clean and in good condition - it only had a tape deck, but Laura gave me a tape to auxiliary converter. They also let me use a car iphone charger! Can't beat this place. I rented a car form West Side Rent-a-car, far away from the airport, all cars I drove were in terrible condition. Not safe to drive on the freeway. Horrible car maintenance. I exchanged my car 3 times. The owner explained to me those are new cars etc which I understood. I expect a minimum. One day I had to call AAA they could not opened the hood because the latch was broken another day it was the steering wheel. I called saying I was having more car issues. I spoke with Carlos he was very understanding with my car issues. Then I got Radu on the phone and he responded to me: I'M NOT 911 and was extremely rude with me. I wasted time because of all the car issues. If you are lucky and you get a good car then it's great. They try to give good customer service. Unfortunately for me, I did not get one good car.... so my experience was not great, just headaches.... read more

my car lease ended in april, 2011. after returning the car, i rented cars every few weeks because i expected to move overseas, so getting another car was out of the question. i used pretty much every online service to find the best deals for up to a month at a time. it was a pain in the a**, but i wasn't sure when the move could happen, so i kept switching cars. sometimes, i could get crazy deals, but mostly i was paying around $900-1000/mo. argh. i decided to try some local deals with older cars. headache after headache, until my obsessive internet searches brought up this car rental place. no reviews on yelp or citysearch, but the prices were excellent and i love vw and audi cars... call. a gruff sounding man with a strong accent answered, said that the shop was in the crenshaw district, could i get there sometime soon? i said no -- it was getting late, i'm a tiny female, and there was no way i'd go there after the sun went down. he offered to pick me up, and i thought "why not?". a young guy came with the car i was to rent. it was an older passat in pretty good shape, and he drove us to his shop -- a beautifully restored garage + loft space a few blocks from crenshaw (there are beautiful areas around crenshaw). there was a downpayment, photocopying of my info, and verbal promise to provide some additional information from me to him. i ended up extending the rental for an extra month, and found him to be very fair, and NO SURPRISES. you can't beat that. additional kudos 1: within the first week of getting the car, the previous renter called because she'd forgotten her parking pass in the car. none of us had noticed it when i got the car; i found it but was in the middle of a consulting gig, and she was busy with work so had a difficult time connecting. the owner of the car rental picked it up from me in one of the few moments i had available -- around 9:30pm at night, and delivered it to the previous renter. additional kudos 2: as i was moving out of my old house, i lost the car key. my furniture, which was being donated, could not get out because the car was in the way. i called, the young man answered, found the keys, and his very sweet wife delivered them so the donation truck could take all the stuff that wasn't moving with me. he asked for a check in case he had to replace it; i found the key 3 days later so he returned the check to me. this young couple provided me with excellent service and a reliable car for nearly 2 months, and were fair from beginning to end. i would recommend them highly to anyone. read more

when i needed a rental car for a few months, i got quotes from all the big companies (hertz, enterprise, etc) and i started to get frustrated with how little of a price break they were willing to give for monthlong rentals. i came across west side rent-a-car via googling "month long car rentals" and decided to give them a try based on their stellar yelp reviews. radu was easy to email/call/text with, paperwork was easy to fill out, and the car was clean and comfortable. they didn't have the car i wanted (prices + cars are listed on their website), and they cut me a deal to give me a more expensive car at the cheaper price to make sure i was satisfied. insurance is extremely reasonable, and the whole experience was great. i'm renting from them again in a few weeks and they're even picking me up at the airport and bringing me to the shop to pick up the car - free of charge. great customer service, great experience. read more

Have to say I am very happy....when you come from another country to the US you have NO credit rating making getting a lease impossible...rental cars cost thousands of dollars and makes getting round impossible or expensive. Stumbled on West Side after paying ridiculous amounts of money for too long.....so happy these guys are cheap, easy to work with, bend over backwards, the cars are not new but for me, doing school runs and just getting around it is perfectly fine. If you need to rent a car for a couple weeks or more and don't want to pay huge amounts just for using new cars, you should definitely check out this place. It will save you a lot of money and headaches in the long run. I needed a car for a few weeks/months since I was going to go overseas with a date rather close yet unset. I considered buying a cheap used car first, but figured out it would be too much of a hassle and risk to take it to a mechanic and then sell the car when I would leave so I started to rent from various places for 2 weeks at a time. My experience with some places were OK, some absolutely awful. Westside is one of the "great" ones. The owner is a guy called Radu and his sister Irina works there too. They are located in a warehouse sort of district in Crenshaw. I was a little put off by the location (not such a great neighborhood) and the fact that it doesn't have a sign on the building, seemed, rather unprofessional since I had been dealing with huge car rental companies for a while. My impression changed instantly when Radu arrived and opened the garage door. It's a very nice space full of VWs, that sort of has an artist meets mechanic loft kind of vibe. Although he's actually a software engineer, he has travelled the world extensively and through his own bad experiences of long term car rentals (or the lack of such a niche) in LA, decided to start this business. Good for him and good for the rest of us! The cars are not brand new, but they are in good shape and they carry German cars; Volkswagens and Audi's which is a huge plus for me since I specifically prefer VWs over other cars, and it's hard to find one for rent anywhere in LA. Also, the quote I got for a month was far more reasonable than anything I got before at only $500 a month. They also have a certain flexibility and reliability that is hard to come by with such rental car businesses. I made a contract for a month, but returned the car 2 weeks earlier due to personal reasons and they refunded my money no problem. Radu was extremely helpful and drove the car I got from him to the other rental car company a few miles away so I didn't have to get a cab! The best part about West Side Rent A Car, other than them carrying German cars and a VERY REASONABLE price, is that they are genuinely nice human beings. Radu is a no-nonsense yet very lovable guy and I can't help but admire his creative entrepreneurship. Irina is also very sweet and helpful. They both "go the extra mile" to keep their customers happy as another reviewer has put it. This is by far the best rental car place in town.You will never find a cheaper price especially in this city. The cars are a little bit older with maybe a few more miles than your traditional rental car place but they work just fine and had no issues with me driving back and forth from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. On top of the awesome pricing the customer service here is great too. Everyone is very accomodating, pleasant, and eager to give you a good experience. You would do yourself a disservice if you don't give these guys a try for your next rental car needs! read more
