What can I say that hasn't already been said about the West Side Market, especially since the recent updates to the fruit and veggie stands. If you want to support local the West Side Market is the perfect stop, it doesn't matter the day of week, unless you are looking for the cafe to be open. I love being able to get my produce along with fresh seafood at Kate's and pasta from Ohio City, full meal planning in one stop, especially when you can grab a fresh bouquet that finishes your table setting. Parking is even easier with one hour free and scan and pay if you are going to shop at a leisurely pace. read more

I love food halls and markets, and I always try to check them out when I travel, so I had some pretty high hopes for this well-rated spot! Starting off with parking, there was some construction going on and I missed the first entry, there was nowhere to turn for the parking lot address I had on 25th St (turn on 23rd)! We ended up doing street parking but there's 90 min of free parking if you make it into the lot. Moving onto the main attraction: food! Most of the food is real market food for folks cooking at home. Think sausages, fish, various other meats, and pastas. There was a great deal on fresh made pasta near the front for $2.50 a bundle, but I was on the hunt for ready-to-eat lunch and those didn't quite hit the mark! I also saw a lot of baked goods (apple fritters, macarons, breads), fried foods (empanadas, hand pies, etc.), and sauces/dips. When it came to food options I actively considered, I narrowed it down to spring rolls, crepes, and gyros, but ultimately the gyros were priced really high ($16!) and we ended up dining at the West Side Cafe (which was great, I'll review that separately). Long story short: fun market to shop around if you feel like cooking a nice meal, not so fun for a lunch while you're out. TONS of food to eat including both different types of food (popcorn, breads, pastries, pasta, MEAT, SEAFOOD I could go on and on. But also a lot of repeats (probably at least five different places to buy macarons for example. There are so many things to see and watch it is entertaining in its own right. We got coffee (with fun flavors, delish), a cheese roll (should have also gotten a pizza bagel from that place don't botch it like I did.) some pastries (good) and flavored popcorn (also good). This place is so awesome! It was my first time here, but it was one of the places that was recommended on Google when visiting Cleveland. The place was easy to find and plenty of parking. We probably only got to visit half of the stalls before we got hungry and had to leave before it started raining. It was amazing to see at least 3 Cambodian-owned stalls and conversating with them wishing them a Happy Cambodian New Year because it was April afterall. Native Clevelander here. I grew up going to the WSM and it was as much of a treat 20-30 years ago as it was today. I love all the fresh meats, produce, and breads available. The cultural variety from handmade pierogis, samosas, pepperoni bread, macarons, enchiladas- it doesn't get much better. All the venders I visited took cash and card. It was a week day so it was not crowded. This is a Cleveland staple. It doesn't pretend to keep up the times.. it is good old fashioned local food. And it's delicious! read more

We decided to take a drive to Cleveland after hearing about this place on social media. When you enter the lot, the local police were very helpful with assisting in parking. The market was very crowded on a Saturday, and Id assume its like this all year through. They have a variety of shops, including an Irish place which sells various Shepard's pies, other pies from the UK and Ireland, there are various bakeries, fresh meats (antelope, rabbit, chicken, beef, lamb, bison, etc.), and other stalls which sells pickles, and everything else you can think of. Some places also sell warm foods which you can order, they heat up for you, and then you can walk around the market with. There is also a little balcony where one can walk up to and see the whole market from, though this area is limited and was crowded when we were there. read more

Easy to find, there was a lot of a car congestion so we ended up parking on a street but we heard there was free parking for 90 minutes. The market itself is very clean and organized. There are two sections to the market, which was interesting but helped with the flow of people. The bathrooms are also public. Some of the places were more expensive than others so I recommend looking around before you make your final purchases. You can find some cheap things some cheap produce, but there's definitely some pricier produce options. Overall, the vendors were nice and they were respectful when we said that we were just looking and they went back away until we were ready to buy. I really want to love this place more. It has all the potential to be a 5 star destination. The West Side Market is split into two sections, the produce side and the indoor market. Starting with the produce area, it feels a bit hit or miss. Some vendors seem to be reselling grocery store produce at marked up prices, which takes away from the experience. I was hoping for something closer to a true farmers market, with local and seasonal items that are clearly sourced. If I am paying a premium, I want to feel confident that I am getting something unique or higher quality, not just repackaged supermarket goods. The indoor market, on the other hand, has a great atmosphere. The energy, the layout, and the overall vibe make it an enjoyable place to walk through. That said, many of the stalls start to feel repetitive, with similar offerings across the board. It makes you wonder if there is more opportunity for variety and specialization between vendors. Overall, it is a fun place to visit and definitely worth experiencing, but weekends can get very crowded. I've been told that West Side Market is a must-visit when going to Cleveland and I would agree! It was a fun market to walk through with lots of stalls offering a variety of items. There are a handful of lunch places there - I really liked the gyro place and my husband enjoyed the crepe place. Even though there were lines, they moved really fast so it wasn't a very long wait to get food. My only drawback on this market is that there isn't much seating for people to enjoy lunch. We went up to the 2nd floor balcony and sat up there which has a great view of the market but that area can get packed. read more

Had a Pirogi melt sandwich. 2 lightly fried potato pirogies wrapped in mozzarella on rye toast. Delicious and unusual. Could only eat half it's very filling. Had to try it never saw this on a menu anywhere. I was surprised at how small the market is. The photos make it look like a vastly large space. In reality it's half. Parking isn't easy. This market is old school cool. This market has been open for 112 years today, that's astounding. It opened on November 2nd, 2012. A bit disappointed to see any empty stalls in here though, that's surprising for sure. The crepes at the deluxe is good, Le Roi for the sweet tooth. Lots of tasty baked good and meats to pick from. The cheese (specifically one of the blue cheeses, whose name escapes me) and their chorizo are incredible. The cakes and baked goods at Wild Flower Bakery are always crowd pleasers when I take them to dinner parties. You'll find a large selection of delicious bread, one more wonderful than the next, at Mediterra Bake House. The specialty shoppe Carrie's so many wonderful goods, from cheese to chocolate to many other items you didn't know you needed, but once trying m, you'll become addicted to. Foodie paradise! I mean, Wow! I was on sensory overload here. One of the very best farmer markets I've ever visited. So many great fresh produce, meat and bakery shops. If we lived in the Cleveland area we'd be here routinely. As it was, we were limited on what we could buy. May have been just as well because I could've stayed here all day trying to make decisions. Maybe it was because I was walking with my mouth hanging open at all of the sights but the employees, each and every one, were so friendly and welcoming. The West Side Market at 25th and Lorain is the oldest operating indoor/outdoor market space in Cleveland. This is full of stalls featuring meats, baked goods, cheeses, candy, and other food specialty items. Make sure you eat before coming here because everything is so tempting and appealing. There is a balcony on the second floor where you can get a view of the stalls below (this building is in the National Register of Historic Places). This place is an amazing public market. It's a great place to get groceries and also hot food to eat. There's a produce arcade that sells a variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and other sundries and you can get some amazing deals. When I went, someone was selling 8 pounds of strawberries for $5. Sure, some of the stands weren't local farms, but it's a great place to shop. The interior has individual stands selling ready to eat foods like coffee, crepes, sandwiches, cakes, breads, etc, in addition to staples such as meat and dairy. There's a fun area where you can climb up to a balcony to get a bird's eye view of the market. There's also public restrooms avaliable here. Some notes: There's a parking lot near the produce arcade that is 90 min free otherwise you have to pay, as well as paid street parking. Overall, the location was neat and we saw everything we could see. We tried a lot but not everything. Parking was free for first hour. Will be back sometime! Most were there on a Sunday, but some didn't open until 10:30 or later. I often found myself standing waiting for someone to come back from who knows where, only to decide to move on. Thank god they have coffee but it wasn't super amazing, just OK. Crepe guy was cool, his crepe was good, wished we'd got the brisket. This place is good but to be honest there is a lot of repetitive offerings. At least three sausage sellers in competition for the same recipes. Like 6 bakeries, some better than others. Six stalls fighting each other over fruit and vegetables. There are some others... The one-offs are: enchilada joint, almond buttery, cafe (coffeehouse), crepe guy, herb seller with kitchen stuff, pickle seller, "poultry seller" (but other people sell meat) I wanted to buy some antiques! They should get some antique sellers in the outdoor stalls that were empty. Not sure what's in the Import Store It's cramped, the lanes fit 2 people across basically, with lines it gets hectic. Vegetable pricing is good but not as good as some of the Indian grocers in Pittsburgh. There was some focus on local, but a lot of the cheese at the cheese seller I've seen either in Pennsylvania Macaroni Company or Whole Foods. West Side Market was the highlight of my trip to Cleveland. I love old shopping complexes like this. My goal was to purchase the Cleveland style jerky and I did load up on it to bring back to Hawaii. I bought 2 different kinds, mild and applewood smoked, because I didn't know how they tasted. The Cleveland style jerky is much thicker than traditional jerky but well flavored and addicting if you like this style. My friend told me that you have to ask to sample. Good to know for next time. The jerky was awesome and I think it was about $22 per pound. I also purchased some beef snack sticks that weren't as good but priced at only $10 per pound. The produce was beautiful and reasonably priced. There were so many interesting shops but I think Frank's Bratwurst is the best stall there. They only sell brats on bun but they do it well and very cheap. I will definitely be back here some day. read more

It's been a few years since I've been there. From what I remember they had a super selection of everything.

West Side Market is located in downtown Cleveland. It is the most wonderful version of a farmers' market. Every time we visit family in Cleveland, we take a moment and stop here. If you live here and if I lived here, this would be my grocery store! They do have a parking lot, it is free for the first 90 minutes. After that you will have to pay for parking. Once you head inside, everything is covered. You start with the fresh fruit and vegetables. I have hardly ever seen such fresh- and good-looking products before. These vegetables look like they were picked fresh from the farm and brought over. The prices are very reasonable, cheaper than what we pay here in Florida. After you pass the vegetables, you can head inside where it is a giant assortment of different vendors and their stands. These are permanent stands so there might be days when they are not there. The west side market is an old railroad train station that has been converted. Make sure to look up and see the beautiful ceiling. You can walk around shopping for different items. Some of my favorite vendors are the meat sticks and jerky stand, the bread stands, the cheese stand, the dessert stands with macaroons and cannoli's and then the fresh beef/chicken. There is literally a stand for everything you need. Kolaches like your grandmother made, they have it. Having a party and need stuffed olives, they have it. They literally have your entire shopping week here in one place. There is a really great mixture of specialty items such as cheese as well as everyday items such as steaks and sausages. You can also get items to snack on as you walk through. We do not live in Cleveland, so it is difficult to fly with some of these items, but we still manage to get some snacks along the way and some items to take home. We have bought cheese, fresh pasta, breads, desserts, meat sticks and more. We have never had a bad meal! There is one other place that is a must for us, and it is the tiniest little "restaurant" in the back. She is a Ukranian lady that owns the place. They have a grill and flat top and that's it. They make burgers and hot dogs, things like that but she also makes homemade pierogies. These are the BEST I have evert had and we make a point to beeline to the pierogies. All in all, you really could spend a good amount of the day shopping and tasting and sampling and eating your way around. This is a really awesome place, I wish we had this in Orlando, I wish this market was here. But if you are visiting or live in Cleveland, please make a point to go and shop here! read more

The West Side Market is Cleveland's oldest public market dating back to 1912. The market is home to 100 vendors with butcher meats, seafood, bakeries and desserts, all kinds of fruits & vegetables, flowers, spices and nuts. The offer all kinds of ready-to-eat food as well. Though we did not get to try the Itialian resturatnt or a hot dog we lucked into Theresa's bakery and grabbed some items to go. A lot of the fruit and veggie vendors in one of the buildings offer free samples.
