I love this concept and space so much. Family friendly and a great place to catchup with friends or get work done on your own. The drinks are amazing, the food is simple but I don't think you come here for that. Would love to see more baked goods here and maybe a chip and dip combo. This is my new hangout spot for the summer lol

This is one of my favorite book stores in the area! It gives more coffee shop vibes than true bookstore. There are plenty of places to sit and study, read, eat/drink. There is an old stage that's stunning. The workers are very helpful - I've even specialty ordered books here. This is a must see if you are a bookstore person! I'll need to try their food items sometime, but I've never been disappointed getting a coffee here. Overall rating: 4.9/5 stars

I finally got to visit the coolest bookstore in Cleveland!! It has been on my list for a while and wow... I'm so glad I came! I wish I came hungry to try out the food or drinks but, trust me... even without that this place was marvelous! The architecture inside was gorgeous and the variety of books is awesome! I cannot wait to come back and find the perfect book to relax and read with their in house cafe! Definitely give this place a chance! You won't regret it!!

Quaint bookstore with a coffee shop. I love being able to browse the books with a drink. They also have events there and a big open space for performances! The upstairs has plenty of seating to read or do other work. Since it's a local book store, the books range from a broad category with new and old reads. It is hard as someone that isn't an avid reader to know exactly how to find certain books there. They buy used books too fyi!

Risked my life in pursuit of yet more books yesterday. With each passing minute, the ice and sludge and traffic grew worse in Cleveland, but I was determined to discover a new bookstore. Beautiful space, good music, friendly staff, and an excellent selection. They have all of the beautifully obscure literary classics that you just don't see in other bookstores -- and a large selection of NYRB titles. I left with two Nelson Algren's and two Chester Himes' -- feeling very much that gritty, seedy, urban underbelly mood as I trudged through dirty city snow, and drove home through some rougher parts of town. If I'd had more time, who knows what I might have left with! Definitely plan on a return visit!

Love this little hidden bookstore. Very quaint - local visitors. They have a section of tables off to the left where you can set up a laptop if needed. They have a very small menu option but I love how adorable this space is.

The vibes are so chill. It felt like you were away from the Ohio city and Tremont madness and in a place where you can just relax and lay back. I love it here. The bottles of wine are perfect for a date night if you like books like me.

Relaxed vibe - who doesn't want to sip an imported beer while browsing a curated collection of vintage & new books? Heaven.

Cute book store and cafe. I will say it was hard to find since it was upstairs but we found it eventually. There is seating if you order coffee. The store is small but well laid out in sections. I love the display of stacked books. We didn't purchase anything but the employee greeted us.

This place was so amazing! It's just a small little attic type bookstore in Cleveland. It is such an eclectic little place! It's a bit old Fashioned (in a great way)! It's also trendy and very cooll! One wall is decorated to look like a huge stack of books! As you can see from my photos, this is a great photo op spot! I noticed that they had a great variety of books and there was a book club going on upstairs. They sold reasonably & lower priced T-shirts(for the book connoisseur in you or in your life!)...The lower floor had a great coffee shop. There were seats upstairs and downstairs. Every person that we came across during our visit was extremely friendly & helpful! I also noticed that they had no political agenda and all views were represented on their bookshelves. They had children's books and a variety of cute little items to purchase.

Super cool second hand locally owned bookstore on the second floor of a building on top of a coffee shop! Full of second hand books and new books. On top of books they also sell cards and fun little knick knacks! There's also a cute cafe area with free WiFi where you can work and have a nice cup of coffee. The reason why I am not eating it five stars is due to the lack of accessibility for people who may be handicapped. Hopefully they will be able to expand this location or move/expand to one that is! I have high hopes for this business!

    So many books!

I could easily spend hours here, and did, last Sunday! What gorgeous decor, layout, vibes and selection they have! Workers were really friendly as well. The prices of books were high though--no discount at all for new books. Fine to support local but this is why the library will still always be my favorite. What I was confused about is how the books are organized because it is not by author nor by used/new. I'm pretty sure new books were placed right next to pre-owned ones on the same shelf... I did enjoy all the gift and merchandise displays. They were all set up in a way that looked irresistible to buy! My BF bought this photography coffee table book he was really excited about and I got a children's novel illustrated by Jon Klassen (big fans!).

Mac's Books is a well-loved indie book store in Cleveland Heights Coventry neighborhood. It's been…read moreimpressively part of the community since 1982! It's everything that you'd expect from a bookstore - wood accents, endless shelves of books, zines, magazines, bookish souvenirs, and cute bookmarks. This bookstore often makes it to "must visit" CLE bookstores. Selection: Mac's has a wide range of literature from the timeless classics (think Jane Austen) to modern lit (think Emily Henry). There are three levels of books with genres ranging from romance to history. Each category is well organized and labeled. It's definitely the store to find eclectic reads on specialized topics. You'll also find new and used books, greeting cards, pretty journals, bookmarks, bookish totes, and other accessories at this store. You can order everything that you can't find at checkout. I historically purchased nature-inspired reads, and today Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" for my book club. It was a gorgeous and compact version for $15. Who doesn't love a compact book that you can take everywhere? Service: Service is consistently very friendly. They always ask you if you found all your reads in a genuine manner. I really enjoy my interactions with everyone at Mac's - employees and readers. Events: This book store hosts very interesting book events for the community. Open air poetry readings, silent readings at nearby Phoenix Coffee, haikus and meditations, book clubs, and other gatherings are hosted here. Check out flyers at their store or their Facebook page. I previously visited their event with typewriter printed poems for Valentine's Day and had a ton of fun! Parking: City parking garage is available across the street (free parking). There is limited street parking. Availability of the latter really depends on the time of the day. I highly recommend visiting Mac's if you're in the mood to browse. Make sure to check every corner, there are so many great finds for your TBR! Explore the area's dining spots in the Coventry neighborhood while you're visiting. There are some dining gems here!

Especially loved Freida McFadden game and book nook! There are multiple shelf of used book with pretty good finds. MY BUYS: My friend and I browsed this store for awhile. I wish that I had hours to browse that day. We both purchased a popular thriller at full price (market price). We felt really good about supporting local. SERVICE: The service was really amazing! My friend and I asked about potential international reads for our international book club. It was a very obscure question. Within minutes the associates provided us with a huge list of potential books. I've never seen such accommodation and efficiency! We were able to also ask a lot about the store and inventory. We were treated so nicely. The service is simply incredible! MEMBERSHIPS: There are a few memberships and savings available at this store. Free membership allows you to sign up for free, then you get $5 off when you spend $100. The paid membership is $20 for one year. You will get 10% during every purchase. I'll look into memberships during my next visit. I really loved The Walls of Books! Love the selection! Love the service! Love that I can find local book club reads! I will be back to shop here for book club finds and winter book hoarding. I very highly recommend visiting this store!

Appletree Books has been part of Cleveland Heights Community and local independent bookstore scene…read moresince 1975! This bookstore is charming (inside and out). Lovely customer service. Amazing all around. It is well-stocked and well-curated with items such as books, vintage accessories, bookmarks, journals, and more. You'll find every genre at this bookstore. Unfortunately after 50 year, the owner is retiring. Appletree Books will close its doors on May 31, 2025. It's a very sad moment for the community and readers. Things to know before they close: -Sales: There are currently big sales ongoing on furniture, vintage items, and fixtures for the next two weeks. The items on sale are on the second floor and in the basement. The prices are very good! I purchased 3 amazing refurbished furniture pieces for $70 (table, shelf, and side table). You can pick up some items that are not in use when you purchase. The items in use will be scheduled for pickup after store closure. I highly recommend checking out everything they have! Most pieces are sold but very good items remain! -Books: There is still a lot of inventory, many good reads. There is a sale on books right now (20% off). Check out ARC's in the back (first floor) for free books (2 per person). -Gift Cards: Be sure to use your gift cards before closure or send them in for redemption. Contact the store or get on their email list for more details. -Points: If you have points with this store, use them! -Events: The store has three remaining events: Books in the Bar (at Parnell's), Shakespeare Reading, and Fairwell Party. The Fairwell Party is scheduled on June 13. Follow their social media or join their email list to check these events out! -Community Impact: The store is currently accepting book donations (or books purchased in the store) for kids' little libraries. I will be so very sad to see this store go! The displays were always so lovely! They always made my day! I look forward to the remaining events and hope to shop here more before they close!
