If I could sum up my West Marine experience today it would be in the negative numbers as the steam is still coming out my ears. I was at the Peabody store, and asked for a hand held electric horn. The overly solicitous and somewhat condescending gentleman did not believe me there was such a thing. So he walked me over to the horn section to show me there was no such thing.....at which point I informed him again it is on the catalog. So then I stood there while he looked it up. Voila....and seabrook had one. We called ahead to hold it and then drive up. At Seabrook the customer service was no less irritating. Two registers open. One where several of the staff was working with one man at length....all of them staring at the computer. The second one operated by a young lady. The other young lady in front of me was rather chatty, had to run back for a price on something that she couldn't find? And kept chatting even after she paid. I finally interrupted and asked if she knew where they were holding my ELECTRIC air horn. (At this point there was quite alone behind me too) and was told that I had to go to customer service..... So I sat there for a while, alone at first, and then Jed Clampett showed up with another salesman. The idle conversation was no less infuriating.... Another person came over to look up something for someone else, and I grabbed him and asked him for my air horn. I took it back to stand in line, and finally left. I'm not sure whether the lack of intelligence or courtesy in their stores is a plot by West Marine to get us to shop more online, but at this time I am happily in support of a conspiracy theory.... read more

The local store is understaffed. The staff was really not very helpful. I ended up ordering stuff from the Internet from their store a month ago. I'm still waiting for the delivery to the store. After two weeks I called the store and was put on hold for no less than 15 minutes and was told I needed it a SKU number. The tracking number on the order is not related to any known mail delivery service. I was told by customer service that it means nothing. I was informed that a West Marine delivery truck left from one of the Carolinas last week and had to deliver to every store along the way until they gets to New Hampshire. As a matter of fact it is NOT closed. There once were 2 stores in Seabrook. The store at 920 Lafayette Rd CLOSED last year but the one that you have listed here at 308 Lafayette Rd is very much OPEN! The staff was friendly and very helpful. When I couldn't find an item on the shelf the called other local stores to see if they had it in stock for me, and had them hold it for me until I could get to them (they gave me 2 weeks) They also order items from their warehouse and can have them shipped to the store where I could pick it up TAX FREE or have it delivered to my home or office. read more

Despite the other reviews here, I had a great experience in this West Marine location last week. The Seabrook store was the only one in the area with a particular shoe size I needed as a gift for my wife. When I arrived, the only pair left was the display model... which means they'd been worn around the store and scuffed up a bit, making them not quite as presentable for a gift as one might hope. I asked the cashier if they had any others in back stock and, after a short search without any luck, she called the manager over to ask what they could do for a discount. In the end, it was a generous compromise - I got the size I needed, saved a significant amount because of some light cosmetic issues, my wife is happy (knowing the shoes are going to get beat to hell anyway!), and we put the savings in the cruising kitty. In many years as a customer of West Marine, I've found it pays dividends to do your research, wait for deals, be kind to the staff, and ask for help (including politely inquiring about possible discounts when things aren't quite as-new). And when it's frustrating or expensive to find what you need in a rush, remember that you're already in the pretty sweet position of outfitting your boat in the first place... read more
