Yo could let customers talk before cutting them off on the phone and stop talking over people. I received a call from you saying you couldn't verify my insurance because my insurance company has a different name on the policy. I have one name and one name only on my insurance card. I have had no problems with any other facility verifying my benefits either my insurance company. You took my information over the phone and don't have a copy of my card to refer to. Was trying to ask if I could send you a copy of my card in case you have the wrong name in your system or in case you made a mistake in giving my name to the insurance company. Instead you were rude and insisted that I call my insurance company to get this straightened out. It would be different if you were looking at my card and looking at the information submitted to Cigna and it matched but again, you don't hand my card and are so sure that the mistake couldn't possibly be on your end because no one there would ever make a mistake that you won't even let me help you verify that by sending my card. Taking my business elsewhere to a place who knows how to talk to people right. read more

My husband went to nurse practitioner Valerie Coulter. She was the worst we have dealt with when it came to my husband's condition. The office doesn't answer the phones. My husband had to drive up there. His skin condition was getting that bad he needed the medicine she prescribed him before for 5 days and then prescribed him something he could have got off Amazon. He begged could they prescribe him something and their response from the office staff was they couldn't help him. This type of customer service is horrible. My husband finally had to find someone who cared about him as a person and not a way to get paid. read more

Dr. Coulter did a wonderful job removing a mole on my neck with no scaring. She used a filler between my eye brows on a muscle which had set in to cause a wrinkle. No amount if Botox would remove it. She is cautious and careful not to put in too much filler. Staff did a wonderful job listening and taking notes befits seeing doctor. read more

I've been going here for 5 years and I don't plan on changing dermatologists any time in the future. Dr. Mahoney and his team are great and so very friendly! My appointment has never started more than 10 minutes late, everything is done in a timely and efficient manner, they're very helpful and accommodating when booking an appointment, and I always feel like all my questions are answered. They provide a number of cosmetic services as well, and offer gift cards. I had a cyst below my left cheek 5 years ago (which is how I discovered West Houston Derm). The cyst was right below a mole on my lower cheek, which I really didn't want to have removed. Two other dermatologists told me there was no hope in saving the mole, but Dr. Mahoney not only removed the cyst and saved my mole, he did so without leaving the slightest sign of a scar on my face. I've never written a review before so I feel strongly about this critique. My physician recommended this practice, and asked his receptionist to send a referral. This was done almost a week in advance. I arrived at my appointment, after being asked earlier electronically to confirm the date, which I did. Once in the reception area of this office, which was small, loud and crowded, I was told that there was no referral. I waited and waited. The receptionist was very indifferent and aloof. After waiting for over 20 minutes, I asked if it would help if I personally called my doctor's office to inquire, since she did not seem interested in doing so. Again, she was very indifferent and aloof in her answer to me. Certainly not helpful. Once I called my doctor's office, I was told the referral had been faxed four days ago. In fact, my doctor's office faxed it and emailed it again that morning several times. Still the dermatologist office said no referral. After waiting for over an hour to be seen (and mind you, my husband has been a patient here), I told her I thought it was best if I left. The receptionist barely looked up, and just said, "Okay. Bye." To say she was rude, aloof and indifferent would be an understatement. I am just grateful I left because I have since found a much better fit dermatology practice. If the front office is run with such an unprofessional and indifferent attitude, no telling what the rest of the practice is like. I will never recommend anyone I know to come here. Houston has too many competent physicians, in more professional offices, to spend one more minute dealing with rude and indifferent people. Tried to explain to the office manager that "he didn't do anything" but she didn't care and just explained that "I signed the paperwork." wow. I just dealt with someone with a terrible phone manner. They treat you like they are only interested in money at this place, folks. You're required to fill out a long questionairre, using up YOUR time, and they don't bother to print it out or call you back in a timely manner so you're able to make an appointment to get in. Then...when you find time in your terribly busy schedule to call them back, they absolutely will NOT schedule an appointment without insurance info regardless of the fact that you have it. They will not take an email of your card from you and call you back, once they have verified the info...basically...if you don't do it their way, screw you. So screw them. I'll take my business elsewhere. No wonder they had appointments the day of when I called. no thanks. It is astounding to me that people seeking help call this office and are spoken to like I just was. And, why would the office require you to fill out a form if you were going to have to fill out your form and information information again because the system looses it? That seems incorrect, and it probably something they tell people who call in so they do not have to waste paper filling out the information. But...I WAS busy when they called the following day, just like I said I would be. I called prior to open of business and it took a day for them to return my call. When I called back and did not have the information ASAP, I was told they would not make an appointment unless I gave them my information. I have gone to a dermatologist and written a check for services, out of my bank account, many years ago. Maybe I called on the wrong day, or spoke to the wrong person...I was transferred through 3 people and had to state three times that I was just trying to make an appointment, so...who knows? Maybe I got a trainee? But, first impressions mean a lot and there are plenty of dermatologists in Houston, including the one I'm currently seeing who was recommended by my GP...so thanks but no thanks. read more

Made an appointment to get my skin checked out since I have had acne since I was 16 and was considering doing a second round of Accutane. I showed up 15 minutes early and they took me back to my examination room 10 minutes after my appointment time. They didn't weigh me, which I felt was odd since it's important to get the most accurate weight of a person to give them the right dosage of medication. A nurse handed me a urine cup to give them a sample for my examination since Accutane requires a false pregnancy test 30-days before the medication starts. I gave my sample and put it in the silver box behind the toilet which already had three other patient's samples (ABSOLUTELY GROSS and INSANITARY if you ask me). I then waited in the examination room for THIRTY minutes without seeing anyone. I could hear the PA talk to the patients in the rooms next to mine since the walls were paper thin. When the PA finally came in he was friendly, but not very professional. He didn't look at my charts before and was asking me questions I had already spent 10 minutes answering. I wrote down that I wanted a full-body mole check and he didn't do that. Like many experiences with Houston doctors I felt rushed and like my visit was pointless. Depending on how my skin improves will determine whether or not it's even worth my time or money to go back to this place.. read more

Great staff, kind and professional Doctors, I have the opportunity to see Dr. Mahoney for my alopecia, immediately explain to me what it was and make me feel good and relief right away, I went home with a bag of samples (other doctors have never give me any pharmaceutical samples) of course I went to get my prescription to the pharmacy and a month latter my hair grow back and never have that problem yet again. I wen back for a cosmetic treatment and Janet is awesome, definitely will go back again just to spoiled myself. I recommend mi uncle to go and see Dr. Mahoney because I read and hear he is one of the top 25 Doctors In the country to treat Psoriasis the disease my uncle have, and he was very impress with the professionalism of the staff and start his new treatment. Great office, they squeezed me in at short notice to see Dr. Foster. I didn't get called back until 15 min of my scheduled appointment time hence why there is not a perfect rating. Dr. Foster was extremely efficient and knew exactly what my problem was. He assistant had a great bed side manner and made me feel comfortable. I will have a follow up with him in a month and I will update the review, however so far I am really impressed with his office and staff. read more

I wanted to like it. Unfortunately my experience with them sucked. I started questioning weather I should use their services when no receptionist could explain me how to find their office in Wes Houston medical center. But I decided to let it go. Then they made an appointment for my treatments and when I came to the next appointment- the lady told me that two of my treatments can't be preformed at one appointment ( even tho doctor told me it could and adviced me to do them at once). Then they didn't allow my baby in the room - which would be totally understood if I didn't specifically ask about it at doctor's visit and the doctor didn't tell me that I can bring the baby in as long as the baby will do good during that time that I am getting my treatments. So bottom line - I wasted time driving back and forth, and money on a visit to inadequate doctor. And didn't get any procedures done. read more

Next time I want to do a laser treatment here. Be warned - chemical peels require a few days of down time. I went to Dr. Mahoney with no insurance a few years ago hoping to have my keloids taken care of. He gave me steroid injections until they were shrunken enough to operate. Each injection session cost $75 (and that was HIS call). Not bad for no insurance! Sadly, my keloids came back and I went from having insurance to not having insurance and when I went in again, I was told that it was $100 just to be seen (now mind you, this is a .7 second meeting. A look and then a shot in both ears. In and out in less than 5 minutes), $80 for services, and then $30-40 for the medicine. So....from $75 to $210. I asked that the staff go back trough my two years of files and see what exactly I was paying with no insurance, because the doctor wrote on my paperwork $75, but it seems they would not budge. Such a shame because I really did like this dermatologist and even referred my girlfriend there and she received excellent service too. No more referrals from me! read more

I went in to have some skin tags removed by Dr. Mahoney... Worst experience ever! I had quite a few, maybe about 15 tiny ones or so; he anesthetized them but didn't bother to wait for the anesthesia to kick in, as he started burning them I was crying uncontrollably and would tell him it was hurting. He didn't stop, I would look at nurse and she was just looking at him in fear and tried to console me; she knew he should wait for the anesthesia to kick in but I guess he was such in a big hurry to see more patients. I blame myself too, I should've gotten up from the chair to stop the torture. I left there in tears only to see halfway home that he missed 2. I went back right away even though i was terrorized from the pain and the smell of my skin burning. The same very nice nurse told me she would anesthetize them right away so it could have time to kick in by the time the doctor would come around. He took about 15min to come to the room and I didn't feel a thing. Any doctor with any good feelings at all would've had the common sense to stop burning me and give the anesthesia time to kick. read more

I don't give out low and rant like reviews, but this place had me completely unsatisfied. First time patient for acne, and I would not recommend on coming here if you want help on specifically acne. I chose this place since they were in the area and they were in my plan at the time. A PA was assigned to me, and he just seemed to ignore everything I spoke about. I explained to him that I've had acne problems for half my life (12ish years ) and how Obaji helped cleared it up two years ago. And then suddenly I started to get acne again, he was nodding on as if I was rambling. I just wanted to give him my acne history! He then quickly prescribed me antibiotics, tetracycline or doxycycline forgot which one - despite telling him I've tried antibiotics twice and it did not work for me. He even suggested acutane, that is not something you suggest lightly! My acne is bad, but not that bad to do acutane. And clindamycin, which I've tried!!! He also asked about my washing routine, and I can garauntee you - if you had acne for more than ten yours, your washing routine would be down pat. He then prescribed me a sylic acid foam wash 40 bucks!!! Sold only at their office. I just felt as if he treated me like I was a teenager who just started getting acne, and granted I probably look like one. But I was treated as if I didn't know any better and I wasn't someone they wanted to spend a whole lot of time on. I then moved onto my back acne scars, which are raised and white. He then matter of factly informed me they were comedones - which they are not !! I explained to him that is how I scar, and he insisted that he KNEW what he was talking about. I had tons of back acne when I was younger and - I know, I can promise you, I know my own body and for a fact that these are the scars. I was so determined, I got a second dermatologist opinion and they confirmed my raised white scars - were in fact scars. I am not saying I am more qualified than those who are medically licensed and I'm sure any medically licensed person would roll their eyes when they get a patient like me. But I watched my acne for years... and saw them scar over time. Lastly my keloids, the moment I mentioned them he immediately suggested to do steroid shots and was practically reaching around for his gloves to give me a shot. This is without giving me time to think or ask what the steroid shots do. Or even ask the price. After leaving that place and doing my research, I learned that steroid shots are indeed the best option to treat keloids. Again, I just didn't feel respected as a patient. When I left, I was given a sheet to inform me on what acne vulgaris was and what my new washing routine needed to be. I know I sound bitter, and perhaps I had the one bad experience compared to all of their patients. But I didn't feel respected nor listened to. I was checked off as some young buck who didn't know how to wash her face and was experiencing acne for the first time. Would not recommend this place if you want your acne addressed, was extremely disappointed. read more

I decided to save because I had wasted 30 minutes. They then sent me a bill in the mail for no show. Their office might be fancy but the service they provide is no that impressive. I've been here once before and asked the doctor if diet had anything to do acne and he said no. That a lie. If they told you natural ways like changing your diet then they couldn't sell you a prescription. Doctors don't want to give you treatments, they just want to give you prescriptions so they can get kick backs. Google natural solutions before you waste your money on these people. read more

I visited Dr. Mahoney for a simple procedure. The wait time was 30mins+. Dr & staff seemed like in a rush to answer qs, or I felt i had very limited time to get in my questions in. So probably 10 mins with doctor, and I think I shelled out close to 200 bucks. The worse part was the surprise lab bill that came in mail afterwards. No advanced notice that they will do lab test, nor did they share any results afterwards. The first time I came to know that a test was performed was through a $137 "bill" in mail ~1 month later. When I called, Nancy their lead assistant blamed i wasnt keeping up with insurance info/deductible and therefore I got the bill. Excuse me. Regardless of who pays, my insurance or I, I deserve to know before hand if there will be a test performed and if I will be charged for something. Ok, Now that you have charged me, I deserve to know the results of my lab test. Per Nancy, they left me a voice mail. I never received it. My voice mail has been full for months, and it tells the caller right away. So when did you leave message? Why didn't you mail the result? or tried calling again? Poor communication. Poor experience. Won't recommend to my family and friends. There are better options available in Houston. read more

I had a very positive experience seeing one of the nurse practitioners here to check out some suspicious moles. However, billing ended up being very unpleasant. I paid directly after the visit, only to find out several months later that my insurance had also been billed and my HRA deducted from (i.e. I paid twice). I spent a considerable amount of time on the phone trying to get a refund, left multiple voicemails with the billing department, and never received a return phone call. I eventually received a refund after a lot of persistence on the phone. Make sure you are on top of your insurance and billing when you go and check your statements afterwards! read more

This place is very unprofessional! Recepcionist is very rude and not very helpful. I went to have 2 moles removed and was seen by a nurse practitioner. For the price I payed I think I should be seen by a Doctor and not a nurse. Just to go in they charged me $115, they just went streight to the moles and asked what I wanted to do. I was expecting a real doctor to do a general check on all the moles and tell me what they thought, none of that happened. I asked them If I should get them removed and told me it was up to me. After they told me the price ($200 per mole because they said everything removed had to be sent to the lab and that was the reason why the price was so high)plus the office visit fee ($115) I decided to have them removed because I was scared they were not good since they grew and changed colors. They never told me what they thought or nothing, they were in a hurry and didn't really care about my concerns. I insisted on the pricing because I didn't want to be surprise with a bill. They told me it was $400 for the 2 moles removed plus $115 and that was it, not to worry. I then had them removed and payed my $515 before I left and thank God I kept the receipt!! They told me they would call me in 10 days to give me the results from the lab and I went home. About 2 weeks later I got a bill in the mail from the lab wanting $200 for their labwork with the moles!! I called the lab and told them that at the clinic they told me I woulnt pay anything else than what I did because the lab work was included in the price they gave me. Lab said they should not of told me that because they dont work with this clinic and they know we have to pay that separatelly. Of course I wasn't happy about it and the girl from the lab was very nice and told me she would call the clinic to see what she could do and she did, she called me back and said she would bill them for it and not to worry about it. keep your reciepts if you decide to go there anyway because you will need it! They never called me 10 days later to give me the results and the results were already there. When you call you can never speak directly with anyone that can help you, you can only leave a message and they don't return your call anytime soon! when they finally called me back it was to tell me that doctor would call me when she was in to give me the results and that never happened. I had to keep calling and waiting and waiting. I finally got my results just because I kept calling and leaving messages almost 2 months later. The reasons vary depending on who calls you, they lie! If you don't want to be lied to and don't want to waste your time and want to be treated professionally especially for the price you are going to pay DON'T GO THERE! read more

Had my first appointment today. The receptionist was fantastic. I called to let them know I may be running a bit late. When I arrived, 5 minutes early, she immediately knew who I was. Although I was actually late, they got me right back within 20 minutes. Saw the doctor, he explained everything to me, he allowed me to talk, then he asked Dr. Mahoney to come in and see me. That was not required. I was concerned about being a Black female with alopecia and having someone of another race examine me. Dr. Mahoney made me feel comfortable, as he showed me the progress his suggested procedure had on another Black female. They gave me treatment suggestions, prices, and most importantly didn't pressure me to accept the most expensive treatment. Professionals who care about their patients. read more

I took my son in to have a birth mark diagnosed and were seen by Valorie Coulter who turns out is a Nurse Practitioner. She put my concerns at ease and proceeded to let me know what her recommendations were. She recommended removal and let me know that the procedure would be covered by my insurance. My son and I decided to have the birthmark which was located on his head removed, she said it wouldn't take long and she was right, she took it right off! My son didn't experience any pain or discomfort during the procedure and she was sure to ask if he was doing alright. Her assistant was very nice and knew what he was doing. It was a pleasant experience to our first Dermatology visit. The office staff was also pleasant and ran on time, which is important when you have to 1) drop your child back to school and 2) get back to work. They also made it very convenient and we were able to fill out the new patient registration form online as well as submit it! read more

Worst dermatologist I've ever been to. Don't send in prescriptions for days, appointments last 3 seconds and no real time is spent with the patient. I have seen several doctors here. Only one has respectfully treated me. Now I have to wait until Monday to call again for my Rx to be sent to my pharmacy when I was told the Rx was being sent in immediately - allowing two more days of breaking out. Of course they don't return voicemails in a timely manner either. The customer service is truly unbelievable. read more
