I brought my 2 yo ferret in as he has swallowed a foegein object. This was the only vet near me thst saw exotics and also after 5 pm. I had a 6:45 pm appointment and he seemed to be doing okay so I canceled. An hr later he was lethargic and near unresponsive. I called again and they fit me in for an emergency visit. They were so kind and welcoming. Even though it was late they did not seemed irritated or rushed like a lot of vets I've seen in the past. They treated my ferret but I ended up later going to an emergency vet in Paramus NJ bc he wasn't doing great after we got home. If I hadn't utilized west end and had him starting fluids and hand fed, he likely would not be here. Thanks to their treatment and ability to fit me in, Slinky is now doing well and thriving. read more

I drove two hours to visit Dr Santiago for my hen Iris who has reproductive issues. The staff and I had spoken a week prior. I mostly dealt with Evelyn. They were so extremely friendly and answered my multitude of questions over the course of several days. They were able to provide an appointment for me just a week later. The office management is extremely efficient, emailing the paperwork, sending email reminders and confirmations, and overall very well equipped and organized. The office is very covid safe. You wait in your car and everything is over the phone. A staff member came out to take her in. She was brought in and examined. Dr Santiago called after the exam and explained what she wanted to do. She is so kind and took time to answer all of my questions. You can tell that she is very experienced and knows what she is doing! Everything went smoothly, Iris was treated, brought back out and we were sent home with medication and follow-up instructions. I wouldn't hesitate to return, especially when Iris needs her procedure again. I had a wonderful experience and look forward to continuing Iris's care here for this particular issue that she is dealing with. read more

I am so thankful to everybody from West End for the service I received. Not only is it hard to find a vet who is knowledgeable on exotics, but they're so close to me. They gave excellent care to both my rats, but especially my sweet boy Dobie who had some health issues, including a large mass on his side. They told me the odds of him surviving anesthesia for the surgery were very low due to his weak lungs, but eventually we agreed on taking the chance for his quality of life. I cannot fully express the joy I felt receiving the call that he made it. He healed beautifully, and thanks to them, he got his life back. Every time Dobie came in for a checkup, they showered him with love. You can tell everybody there has a genuine love and care for animals. Not only during his life was their service amazing, but they were a wonderful source of support when it was time to say goodbye. Everyone was so sympathetic and kind. They even surprised me with a thoughtful card, and a clay mold of his sweet little paw prints. I'm super thankful to find this veterinarian place that's literally not too far from where I live. Our first visit was a very pleasant one, the employees were super friendly and loved my dog (ofcourse who wouldn't) and then after showed compassion towards me when I had to bring him to get neutered, they made me feel that he was in good hands and he would be taking care of. They saw that I was worried and a bit terrified, so to make me feel comfortable they said they will immediately call me when their done with the procedure and indeed they did. John and his team are wonderful and milo (my dog) is doing great! We will return in two weeks for his lyme disease boost vaccine. My pet rabbit, Le Büns, had an issue with his leg...a "Lame" leg according to the Dr. but besides all that from check in - check out the staff was absolutely amazing and they did such an amazing job with making sure Le Büns wasn't stressed out. Very attentive and professional. Unfortunately Le Büns is no longer with me...they did such a great job with fixing his leg that he decided to dig a hole and escape his cage outside to go get a wild bunny girlfriend. I had seen her around him for a couple days and wouldn't you know it, he went and left me for a non domestic lifestyle. I brought my cat in because he was not eating and urinating every where . they did blood work, took a urine sample and did an X-ray . They informed me that he had crystals in his bladder and the only way they could treat him was to take him to the emergency vet and do surgery ( he's 16) and wasn't sure he would make it or put him to sleep . They told me to call my family and gave them come to the office which wasn't possible . I told them I wanted to bring him home and would bring him back the next day . Mu husband suggested bringing him to out normal vet which we did . They did the same tests but waited for the results before recommending anything . As it turned out our cat had a urinary tract infection . This place never even sent out the samples . Only to euthanize him . My ‍ cat is now back to normal ,happy ,healthy and not dead . I informed them of this and they apologized and said they would have the vet call and speak to me . NOTHING . But they did manage to charge me close to $400 for nothing ! I get very upset thinking how close I was to putting my cat down for nothing ! read more

The office manager is extremely rude and dishonest. We had a very unpleasant experience after being clients for 10 years. We were quoted a price for a procedure, we made the appointment for the procedure. Upon arriving for the scheduled procedure we were given an estimate that was double the original estimate for the procedure. Upon questioning the two receptionists about the discrepancy we were laughed at and told no one quoted that price. We left our dog but requested the office manager call us. She called a shirt time after we left the office. We were actually in our vehicle when she called so the call was broadcast across out vehicle's bluetooth system. The manager proceeded to say I had been aggressive and disrespectful to the staff. She stated i had caused an employee to go into the bathroom and cry. She stated that if i wish to stay with this office I needed to be more respectful. My husband and I could nit believe what she was saying. Complete lies. Neither one if us could get a word in, she spoke over us the entire conversation. My husband had to yell her name several times in order to get a word in. He told her we would pick our dog up in 5 minutes. Upon arriving, a young staff member had our dog in the parking lot on a leash. I asked her if I upset anyone or if anyone had gone in the bathroom crying. She looked confused by my questions and responded no. The office manager was waiting outside the office in her winter coat. Again, she wouldn't let us get a word in. She carried on about how long we have been clients (10years), she loves us, loves our dogs, we have to be mutually respectful (NOT what she said during the phone conversation lest than 15 minutes prior). The kicker of it all as when she stated that only one employee had a problem with me. She stated this employee came to her every time i was at the office. Over 10 years with 3 dogs over that time -you do the math on how many office visits we had. The she mentioned this FORMER employee by name. WOW! She kept asking us to stay, let them clean our dog's teeth. We said we need to think about it, we'll sit in the truck with him and think it over. We got in the truck and my husband said drive, they are not touching our dog. We drove immediately to another vet. That vet ran a heart test on our dog - which West End Veterinary did NOT do. Test showed a problem. New Vet had us go to a specialist immediately upon getting the results a couple of hours later. The final straw was upon requesting the records for both our dogs we read the last entry in our dog's MEDICAL records.....it was written by the office manager. She stated I was aggressive, would not let her get a word in during our conversation and we probably would not be returning. Everything she stated about me was how she had acted. Very unprofessional, from not allowing us to speak during the conversation, talking over us every time we tried to say anything (extremely rude) to mentioning a former employee, by NAME, who was not there to speak her piece. By the way, she happens to be at our new vet and she is an extremely lovely person who knows our dogs, knows us and was always pleasant. As a matter of fact, when we lost our last dog to a stroke/tumor my husband and i stood on the sidewalk outside the office crying. She came running outside and proceeded to hug both of us. Yes, this is the person the manager said complained every time we were there! She is an asset to the veterinary office she is now at!! We are not the first clients that have had a problem with this manager. Use due diligence and research this office before you make an appointment. We would not recommend them based on the manager's attitude and deceitfulness. Sadly, the vet probably is unaware of this. One has to go through her to get to him.....we know how that would go. read more

Everyone that works here is really nice and genuinely cares about the animals. Every time I go in it's busy but they somehow stay calm, accommodating animals as quickly as they can. My dog loves all of the vet techs which is saying a lot because they've poked her with needles many times now. They can usually fit you into the schedule the same day you call if your pet is sick, YES there is an upcharge for this because it's an emergency visit, that's standard practice at all veterinary offices. Having an animal is expensive, these guys have pretty standard prices. My dog has gotten sick and cost me hundreds of dollars several times and I never thought of blaming it on the vet; they really do the best they can here, every time they've brought me a bill they've told me any things I could possibly cut from it to save money. Don't get a pet if you can't afford one; my baby has easily cost $8k in her 3 years of life and I'm looking forward to her costing me a lot more than that in the years to come. read more

Although everyone was very nice here I will not be back. I feel very ripped off. I called months ago to get a quote on my guinea after buying from Petsmart and she was sick right away. They quoted me a high price for an emergency but told me it would be around $50 for a non emergency visit. I never went there because the piggie got better on her own. I called Tuesday and they said they would squeeze me in at the last appointment at 5pm although they close at 5. NO mention for an extra charge etc. I simply thought that they were trying to help me out. I waited 25 minutes in a closed room before seeing the Dr. He comes in for maybe 10 minutes and tells me that my piggy might need surgery but he can give me drops (gives a numbing drop in the office) I leave and wait another 15 minutes to check out. I get a $133 bill. I question the charges and I was told it was an emergency visit and they don't like to tell the clients because "it shouldn't be about the money". I was charged $85 (35 more than quoted on the phone) and I was charged $27 dollars extra just for the few drops he put in my Guinea's eye. Because of the way they handled my business, I will NOT go back and I am considering disputing the extra charge on my credit card. Its terrible that this guy takes advantage of people. Its no wonder some families end up neglecting animals and poor animals do not get the proper care. I have found another office to follow up with in a few weeks. Its a shame because the girls at this office were sweat hearts. One Dr. for 5-6 girls working for him seems a bit excessive anyways. No wonder he needs to overcharge people. read more

I have been a client of West End for probably 8 years. I heard about them from a family member, and used them when I took in a kitten from a feral colony. I love Dr. Factor. He has a way with animals that most people (even animal lovers) do not have, and I feel he keeps up to date in his field, while still retaining his old-school skills (ie he was able to tell me what was wrong with my dog's shoulder just by manipulating it, without x-rays). I have never felt he was there just for my money. He had a wonderful receptionist, Wendy, who always greeted us with the warmest welcome, even though I was just there with my ornery cat. About two years ago I adopted a puppy, so naturally West End was our vet. A few months later, we adopted a second dog, and again, West End was our choice of vet. Last December at the dogs' well visit, they asked my husband about doing a heartworm/Lyme blood test, which he declined. The test costs $100 per dog. They are rescues from the South, but they have been on preventatives year round since they were puppies and we do the Lyme vaccination. They never mentioned that it would affect our ability to get heartworm preventatives. Six months ago, I called them to get more heartworm meds (I break it up and go every three months), and they started in about the blood test, and made it sound like they weren't going to give me preventatives without bringing the dogs back in for a test. It seemed a bit weird that they were pressuring me six months before we were due for a visit, but they ended up giving them to me so whatever. The next time I called for a refill, they didn't mention it. I figured we were done with that. Fast forward to yesterday, when I call to get a refill and schedule my dogs yearly visit. The receptionist said she could not give me the heartworm preventatives without scheduling an appointment and agreeing that we would do this expensive test. I said no, there is no way, and she said she would have their administrator Sue call me back. My conversation with Sue started out polite enough, except it's clear that she can't handle anyone that disagrees with her. I said I absolutely will not do the $100 test and it's ridiculous that it should be done yearly. She finally said that they don't actually have to do that, they can do a cheaper test ($45 instead and it only checks for heartworm), and it only has to be done BIANNUALLY. That's a huge price difference. I told her to forget it, I'm not doing the test at all and I'd rather find another practice since I don't even believe the test is necessary. I went and picked up my records and 1 month of heartworm. She made sure to note in my dogs' records that I was "aggressive" and just looking for an argument. Nope. I was persistent and just looking for an answer that wasn't nonsense. I called her from work. I work in an office with people around, I didn't even raise my voice. I called two other practices that confirmed the test was necessary as Sue had said, but got actual prices from the second practice. The $100 test is only $25 at a different vet (so a price difference of $150 for two dogs), and all of their vaccines were considerably cheaper as well. They gave me an estimate, and their well visit will be over $200 cheaper at the new practice. It made my stomach churn to know how badly they'd been price gouging us on everything, and I can't understand the logic at all. It just makes people avoid taking their animals in when they need care. I loved Dr. Factor, but super disappointed in their prices and the condescension of their administrator. read more

OMG! Best vet ever! I've worked in veterinary care for 14+ years and was very nervous about finding a new vet when we moved to Newburgh. Dr. Warzinski quickly put my mind at ease. She's very knowledgeable and super sweet. My fur babies love her. And the staff have been wonderful. Very caring and professional. They always go above and beyond. My family has been going to dr factor for at least 30 years. I have recently adopted a fur child of my own and for someone who is a absolute dog lover I wouldn't dare take my pup anywhere else. This is a great, personable, and compassionate place to take your pet. We are new dog owners and from the moment we walked in the door there was just a sense of home. The staff is personable and knowledgeable and doesn't seem bothered when you ask questions. I waited about an hour on my first visit because the vet had an emergency. I would rather wait an hour and know they are doing their best to take care of an animal, than rush to see more patients and make more money. The cost is reasonable and not over priced. They always call to follow up, even if your pet wasn't seen there. I know someone wrote that they paid "$85" for an "emergency" visit, but my pet was seen someplace else for an "emergency" visit and it started at $135 costing $200 in total. It's important to know where you take your pets because they are family, and I would recommend West End any day. read more
