I was there for the bedding plants and spring/summer color annuals and was thrilled to find plentiful, robust offerings, well displayed. This was a visit that really lifted my spirits. I found this place on social media and happened to be passing through this area over the weekend. I came specifically for the Christmas decor they sell and boy, it did not disappoint! This place was decked top to bottom inside their stand alone building with faux Christmas trees, ornaments, garland and many more decorations. I purchased a few ornaments as gifts. I was really surprised how reasonably priced everything was! The staff were very friendly and attentive if you had any questions. I do want to note that dogs are not allowed inside this building with the breakable Christmas decor. They also have their own small parking lot that you can park in. read more

I've been going to West End for many years, and I've run out of patience with the often rude and grumpy staff. Sometimes they're great, but if you go there enough you'll learn the truth about their miserable customer service. There are lots of other good nurseries in the area, some with much more interesting inventory. Which is where I'll be going from now on. read more

"Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!" I can hear this said by,maybe Barbara Streisand to describe the vast visual feast that I discovered at this century + old San Rafael institution. Though I grow mainly vegetables, the real stars here were the flowers! I bought Runculas in glowing orange and almost a dreamy mixture of blue green. And a ponypack of pleasantly heady, multicolored Stock. Beautiful Red Oak lettuces and a thankfully not standard Spring mix were loaded into an oversized cardboard collar. Then, a pleasant chat about the history of this venerable nursery with the proprietor. I WILL BE BACK. read more

I came across this wonderful Nursery by accident. It may not look very large but it's bigger than you think! I had a chance to meet with the owner, who is a very friendly and helpful person, and he explained the history of this nursery. It's been in their family for over a hundred years! He assured me that he is not the original owner, however. Perhaps my favorite section is the lawn and garden ornaments. They have some really crazy ones for sale. Don't miss the long dog with his tongue hanging out. I loved just walking around this place and checking out all the wonderful plants they have. I was here for some veggies, which I quickly found. They did not have the super hot peppers, but they had some pretty close anyway. I wanted to get some Carolina Reaper or Ghost peppers, but I had to settle for some Hot Chili Peppers. I'm hoping my Indian friends won't notice the difference. read more

Such a wonderful nursery! Great selection of plants, including fruits and veggies. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable and is always willing to help you pick the right soil or tell you how best to plant and water so your vegetation thrives! They currently have wreaths and Christmas trees, and I love their display tree with the huge Christmas ornaments! Inside the nursery there are ample holiday decorations, as well as barbecues and general gardening supplies. The soil is stacked in the front, so you order at the register, and a staff member will load it up on a cart and put it in your trunk. The shrubbery in toward the front entrance. The trees are off to the side. The fruits, veggies, and flowers are in the middle of the outdoor part. The parking spots are a little tight, but I have always been able to find a spot. I have a lovely herb garden growing, as well as some leafy greens. I'm happy I found this place! read more

But West End was spacious, had tons of plants/flowers/shrubs/accessories, and had the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff! I have no words to thank Arturo enough at West End Nursery for the excellent support he gave me today.  I was given a gardenia plant by my son for Mother's Day.  It was shipped to me from nursery on the east coast.  I managed to keep it alive since May 14.  Arturo led me to the correct size pot to purchase.  He filled it with appropriate soil, and transplanted my gardenia into it. I have always had excellent care at West End Nursery. read more

This is really a review for West End Nursery's Christmas house, an amazing display of life-size Christmas decorations (Santa, elves, reindeer, moose...) and rooms of tree after tree exquisitely decorated by theme. I found out about the Christmas house after seeing it advertised on a few Facebook moms' groups. They didn't prepare me for how remarkable it really is. It's a great outing for kids (and adults--pre-kids, I watched made-for-tv Christmas movies and baked cookies every free moment through November and December). When we stopped in, a set of grandparents were also there with two grandchildren. I know I'll be back more thn once this season with my three year old. and baby. I didn't have any gardening needs to shop for, but a really great deal was the sealed paper grab bag of surprise ornaments from last year. For $10, you get 5-7 ornaments. West End pretty much only carries high end ornaments, so it's a great deal. My three year old and I had a lot of fun opening it at home. We got six ornaments, four of which were really nice. (One other was a cheaper plastic ball, which is actually really good for us since it's not breakable, and one is some odd glass ornament of high quality but indiscernible shape). I love family run small businesses like West End thst are true parts of the community! read more

West end Nursery is just wonderful . Year round . Fantastic selection of healthy indoor & outdoor plants , tress , perennials & pottery plus much more . Amazing staff , so informative & really can guide you . Large selection a Big Green Eggs , and all the accessories one needs . First weekend the Xmas boutique opens , they put out hot cider , coffee & homemade cookies , that knock your socks off . Family recipes & it's a joy to wander , shop and munch !! The merchandise they buy , changes yearly . I have bought a lovely Tree skirt , handmade holiday pillows & many ornaments, retro plant holders , linen , mugs , other fun stuff . Lots to take in . I visited the West End Nursery this past Wednesday (12.16.20) with the hope of finding a small ceramic pot for a plant. There was no one around to assist that I could find so I meandered all around this fairly large space, inside the building and out. When I finally did run across employees, no one would make eye contact and they quickly walked away. Totally strange experience. The place is currently taken over by holiday decorations, tis the season after all. I assume they moved the small pots somewhere else in order to make room for all of the life-size Santas and holiday display? I looked and looked without luck and finally got out of there. I will say that they seem to have a nice variety of larger pots and lots and lots of plants but not very many, if any, small pots. Hard to say if I'd go back. read more

I went here today with my family and I am in love! I have always loved Christmas but now I have a son who was born on Christmas Eve, which makes it that much more special. Coming here to see the most amazing selection of Christmas ornaments was really REALLY special!!!!! I don't know what to say other than you HAVE to come see it for yourself. We specifically came in today to find some indoor plants, after visiting another nursery that didn't seem to have any, and were impressed by the selection. It had most of the plants on the "hard to kill" list I referenced and about three times as many varieties besides. Nice, sizable selection of pots as well, from which we found almost everything we were looking for. Super friendly and helpful staff, and we were given watering instructions at the register. If we had any questions, he said, feel free to call--just a little thing but I don't think I've ever been told that at a nursery, just as if we were taking home pets. read more

Just dropped by today to buy a lemon or lime tree and I am so glad I did! The lady who helped us was very knowledgeable and was so helpful!! I ended up buying a 15 gallon lime tree and since they don't have their shipment of Meyer lemon trees yet, I will be going back in a few days to get that as well. This is a beautiful nursery and they have so many varieties of plants, fruit trees l, herbs etc. I also bought some basil, cilantro, mint and lavender plants. Very affordable!!!! Will definitely be a repeat customer! They require masks (yay) on the property and I really appreciated that. They have hand sanitizer stations set up, and they have their payment/checkout set up outdoors as well. All in all an excellent experience! read more

And when I went to West End, what I needed was some help picking out five awesome tomato plants so that I could give my dad the gift of delicious deck tomatoes for Fathers Day. West End had my back. The nicest guy helped me pick out those five tomato plants. Then he checked me out, he carried it all to my car. And they were, indeed, awesome. Everyone that works here is helpful and friendly. The plants are good quality and there is variety. I am also a big fan of their christmas holiday collection of ornaments and fully decorated Christmas tree displays. Love this small business nursery in the heart of San Rafael. Everyone working at the nursery is super friendly and very knowledgeable about the local microclimates. If you are looking for high quality plants, well-suited for Marin, shop here rather than chain stores. I planted 2 flowering shrubs, same variety of plant, 1 purchased from Home Depot, 1 purchased from West Wend. Over the years I discovered the plant I purchased from West End was more robust and produced more flowers. Plants are just better quality, plus they can special order unique plants, helping you to create your personal oasis. read more

One of the most fantastic nurseries I've been to. Massive outdoor selection along with large (and small), healthy, indoor plants. They also had part of the nursery dedicated to Christmas, filling floors and floors of hundreds of different ornaments in any genre you can think of. Sports, wild animals, religion, birds, camping, new borns, you name it! Not to mention the staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. It's made by a company called Campania, which makes garden ornaments for independent nurseries: http://campaniainternational.com/ Despite much reading of their website I couldn't figure out where they were located, so I can't review them as I would like. Besides, like Ancient Graffiti, they only sell to nurseries. My experience at West End was wonderful. A friendly employee gave me a cart that would be easier to maneuver than the wagon-type cart I found at first and then led me to where the frogs were and placed the frog I chose in the cart. A man who I think was the owner rang me up and then carried the frog (which is made of cast stone and weighs 21.5 pounds!) to my car, putting it in the trunk. When I got home I put it near some rhodies by my front stairs and it looks adorable and quite at home. read more

This nursery will make you ready to hire a Landscape Designer and start buying $150 ceramic pots and fill your backseat with perennials and small trees, plus order 3 serenity fountains. But alas that is not my reality, I just stopped in for some houseplants. I never wanted to leave, the place felt like Botanic Gardens and the staff was so friendly. I left with 3 gorgeous and reasonably priced houseplants, plus great instructions on how to care for them. The plants are flourishing, so I'm thinking it might be time to get a cat that can play in my Home and Garden worthy backyard I'm about to get started on (hah!) read more
