They have native plants in 4inch sizes which makes them ready to plant! I usually try from seed and have not often been successful. Or I go to a far away native plant place which can be an all day adventure. It's worth just coming here to see if they have what you are looking for as it's already a healthy specimen acclimated to Marin. I have a street edge that had a lot of bamboo removed and now a lot of water/mud happening. I knew I wanted certain native plants to succeed in this location to control and create a healthy curb appeal. We are in between some rain and so a perfect time to put in and go! They didn't have exactly what I wanted but had my 2nd place plant. The price is like $3 more than my far away drive. So a great value for my time! And the other bonus is the people here are just SO nice! And helpful always! I always feel good after passing through here whether I make a purchase or not. A true gem of a Nursery at Shoreline Hwy! And they have special marked parking to the West of the store which is helpful too. Drop by if you never have yet! read more

This little tucked away place had all the California natives you could need. It was cool to see all of them in this area. The assistant to the store was so helpful to help us find out what a certain plant was. They had a wide variety of plants and cool rocks/crystals. On the other hand, this place is quite expensive but I guess it's par for the area. read more

I love this nursery, if you're looking to get more native plants at your home, CNL is one of only 2 nurseries in Marin county I'd recommend. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, they know the nuances of the county and what plants will thrive based on where you live (for example, certain plants may thrive in foggy Mill Valley, but I'm near China Camp in San Rafael, there's more heat and they get that!) Every plant and tree I have gotten from them has thrived. On top of that they have an absolutely EPIC crystal collection. I'm not one that bases my life choices on what I feel while holding a crystal, but my kids and (me too) certainly appreciate their beauty and the kids love to come here and look and explore the plants. read more

A cute (and surprisingly expansive) native plant oasis! I always stop by here when I eat at Hook Fish (there's a second entrance from their outdoor patio). Many different native plants and varieties of species to suit your needs. I recommend asking the employees for help, as they're extremely knowledgeable and passionate! The owner even helped me carry my plants to my car (although I later killed them, which was entirely my fault). In the future, I would like to see a native plant seed section and more informational plaques or a catalog with basic information. Can't wait to come back and hopefully my plants will do better next time! read more

This small nursery has a great selection of native plants. The staff is very knowledgeable and are always cheerful and eager to answer questions and share advice. We just finished re-landscaping the front yard at my parents' home with natives, and they had all of the plants we were looking for along with appropriate soil and fertilizer. They were also very patient with tips to ensure our project went smoothly despite our limited experience with natives. I'll definitely be going back as needs arise to maintain and enhance their yard. read more

The CNL nursery is just that... one of the best nurseries I've visited for the following reasons. They have lots of healthy, thriving plants with a focus on California native plants. They also sell gardening supplies. The staff is so darn welcoming and really down to earth. Plus they are knowledgeable. They know their stuff. After stopping into some other nurseries in the area, this was our last stop. I loved the eclectic vibe of this place, with lots of local and native plants, as well as specialty items you can't find anywhere else. We stopped in initially for lavender, but we were amazed at the selection of hard to find plants here. The most delightful find, however, was their organic rhubarb starts, which I have been looking EVERYWHERE for, and these are gorgeous ($10 each). Once we were ready to check out, we went into their small store and the lady behind the counter helped us talk about what our garden plans were, and what else we might need. She guided us towards an organic soil amendment which looks great, and I think will really give our hungry plants a boost. The location is easy to get to, just off the main street there, but somewhat hard to depart due to the angle of the street and the light. The people are super friendly and helpful, and there is nothing like this place for ultra specific plants. Will definitely be back! read more

We were eating at the fish place next door and I noticed the sign for this nursery so I popped in. The woman who helped me was so friendly and nice and not pushy at all. I wasn't planning on buying any plants but I wanted to support local businesses and went home with two plants lol Now I have a mint plant for mint mojitos and an organic French lavender plant for inducing sound sleep. My new garden store. I called looking for milkweed since I was starting a pollinator and a butterfly garden. Mary, talk to me through some options on the phone. With this new information I decided to stop by at the store. It's my new garden store. There was someone there that is knowledgeable, that will walk you through what you need to know, that will make sure you get something that works in your garden. It's the first garden store I've ever been to that was this helpful and most importantly this knowledgeable. I've had some of the larger garden stores be helpful but their knowledge turned out to be faulty and things that I bought just died. This is my new garden store. I suggest strongly you make a yours. read more

Fabulous place for all kinds of native plants, the owner, a local surfer type guy, is super knowledgeable friendly and helpful. The plants for the most part a raised from starters right on premises, you can see the process at the center of the place where there is a large water recycling contraption with fish at one end, starter plants in the middle and water-pump at the other end. This place also has pottery classes and facilities. Definitely a place to check out for natives and some great advice on landscaping. read more

CNL is my new favorite native plant nursery in the Bay Area.. I don't know why it took me so long to get in there. They have a much bigger selection than I expected with everything from native shade plants, to succulents, to dune and grassland species, trees, and everything in between. A big problem for native gardeners is finding reliable and well stocked sources, and CNL is a really good one. I also noticed a nice selection of vegie starts in their garden shed as well. CNL's plants looked healthier than any other native nursery that I've been to in the past year or so, and their prices are fair. The nursery is really beautiful and fun to hang out in, interspersed with driftwood sculptures, fountains, and vintage garden art pieces. There were dragonflies and butterflies enjoying the gardens as well, and it's also fun how the nursery is open to the adjacent beer garden and other outdoors businesses in the complex. The lady who helped me on May 10th was really nice, attentive, and knowledgeable. read more

I love this place and wish everyone would spend a little time browsing their enchanting space. I used to think that gardening with CA native plants meant that I had to give up the bountiful blossoms I was accustomed to finding at other nurseries. But one visit here changed all that and set my mind racing with the possibilities for using natives to create a beautiful, sustainable garden. The staff are so helpful and happily take the time to share information. Every time I visit, I learn something new and my desire to garden with CA natives grows stronger. Mary has been particularly helpful in so many ways, including sourcing a tree in a larger size and having it delivered (up a hill!) to my backyard. This is such a wonderful nursery-- they've got excellent native plants and a beautiful setting, plus sweet crystal shop and resources on gardening. Mostly I came here to write about Mary, who is a purely magic staff member. I have had the warmest interactions with her. She is so helpful, thorough, extremely generous and offered enthusiastic support for a big gardening task I had. I am such a fan of her and this space. Dan Dufficy did a beautiful job restoring a crumbling neglected creekbank/small ravine/creekbed in Mill Valley with native plants. The area had been trashed by a flood from a clogged city storm drain, erosion, neglect, the toppling and removal of an old bay tree. and other depredations . Dan and his crew have brought it back to life with beautiful native plants. They were easy to work with, honest, knowledgeable about plants, and thorough. Dan knows his stuff. The area is looking much better and the plants are "seating." After this summer they will not require additional watering. He even came out later to fix the drip watering system, which was beyond the purview of the original job. read more

My association with Dan Dufficy, owner of Native Plant Nursery and Landscape Contractor started out very well. He is quite likeable. He came over to assess my yard for the job to be done. He submtted an estimate which he later told me was miscalculated and submitted another one, way higher. So I changed the scope of the job and he agreed and submitted another estimate, but only verbal. I said I was postponing the job but still wanted to do it. I did some research. A week later, I was ready but could not get him to respond to my texts or email. He ghosted me. Perhaps I asked too many questions. If he didn't want to do my job, he should man up and just tell me that. I simply do not trust him anymore. read more

Saw and purchased a perfect Fremontadendron tree as a replacement to a non native tree that was killed by the winter's frost. The tree was delivered on the next business day by a friendly and knowledgable staff member. He gave me lots of tips and advice on my garden. Looking forward to adding more plants from this nursery.
