This little tucked away place had all the California natives you could need. It was cool to see all of them in this area. The assistant to the store was so helpful to help us find out what a certain plant was. They had a wide variety of plants and cool rocks/crystals. On the other hand, this place is quite expensive but I guess it's par for the area.

One of my favorite things to do while on a leisurely road trip, with time to spare, is to explore garden nurseries. The local small business owned ones are the best. The CNL nursery is just that... one of the best nurseries I've visited for the following reasons. They have lots of healthy, thriving plants with a focus on California native plants. They also sell gardening supplies. The staff is so darn welcoming and really down to earth. Plus they are knowledgeable. They know their stuff. The prices are not eye popping outrageous even if they weren't located in Mill Valley, CA, which they are.

    Mega win, organic rhubarb!!!!

After stopping into some other nurseries in the area, this was our last stop. I loved the eclectic vibe of this place, with lots of local and native plants, as well as specialty items you can't find anywhere else. We stopped in initially for lavender, but we were amazed at the selection of hard to find plants here. The most delightful find, however, was their organic rhubarb starts, which I have been looking EVERYWHERE for, and these are gorgeous ($10 each). Once we were ready to check out, we went into their small store and the lady behind the counter helped us talk about what our garden plans were, and what else we might need. She guided us towards an organic soil amendment which looks great, and I think will really give our hungry plants a boost. The location is easy to get to, just off the main street there, but somewhat hard to depart due to the angle of the street and the light. The people are super friendly and helpful, and there is nothing like this place for ultra specific plants. Will definitely be back!

Fabulous place for all kinds of native plants, the owner, a local surfer type guy, is super knowledgeable friendly and helpful. The plants for the most part a raised from starters right on premises, you can see the process at the center of the place where there is a large water recycling contraption with fish at one end, starter plants in the middle and water-pump at the other end. This place also has pottery classes and facilities. Definitely a place to check out for natives and some great advice on landscaping.

CNL's plants looked healthier than any other native nursery that I've been to in the past year or so, and their prices are fair.

Yes, the selection looks great here…read more I bought two showy milkweeds specifically to feed monarch caterpillars and asked this nursery if they treat with BT (considered an organic treatment that will kill caterpillars). They confirmed they didn't treat with BT and even had monarchs within a screened area on-site that were maturing. Literally the moment I fed a leaf of their milkweed to my 4 hungry growing monarch caterpillars, they all stopped eating and started being sluggish. The biggest caterpillar wouldn't eat through a leaf even though it was previously eating leaves from my yard down to the stem and left a weird brown residue on the leaf surface from this nursery's plant. Then it's next poop was red. All very odd and sad things to see since they were all so active and had huge appetites when I fed them the same species of showy milkweed from my yard. They've since all died, within ~3-4 days of feeding them milkweed from here. I don't know what they treated their milkweed with if not BT, but everything I've read online indicates these were classic signs of the guts breaking within the caterpillars from BT and killing them from the inside. So disappointed that I fed their plant to our monarchs. The one was probably a day away from chrysalis and was really big until it stopped eating.

Each time I ask about a product, more specifically along wall of plant products, not once have one, two, or three staff on duty been able to answer questions regarding products. I realize this may be asking too much, to have knowledge on a wall of product, but there must be a way for mngmt. to help them learn enough to answer questions(Mngmt please write basic info about groups of product, figure out a system to help customers : ). I had tried something for indoor plants, used this for a month until almost empty, did not work as directed. Went in again to buy another product similar. I took a new bottle off shelf of the one I had been trying, to show two employees and ask questions as to what I might be doing incorrectly. I also brought to counter another similar product to buy. Staff was nice, although knew nothing pertaining to what either product does or how to use it possibly differently than what I was doing. They put both items next to each other and read the ingredients. Maybe I should have brought the empty container/receipt and ask for refund, not sure. Could be a brand issue but I needed help, so I bought similar and hope it works but would have appreciated insight/suggestions on the two product(the used one and the new one). I also realize I can do online searches and figure this out. The End.
